A top tip, learnt from seamount, is always always check the putt at feet level. Go backwards and forwards, study it. You'll make many more once you get used to reading fake break etc This is a golden tip guys, and from a player way inside the TOP 100 WGR is not something to overlook! mde8965 don't ever be shy to use every tool of the game at your disposal to read the line; also don't haste on the putts - take your time. Thanks to both of you. I have never understood reading putts in real life, so it is hard to translate that to this game. I have not played real golf in many years (partially because i stink and also because I have some physical limitations) I guess I need to practice just putting. Right now I basically just look at the jaggies and how fast they are moving, look at the height of the pin in relation to me (up or down and by how much), figure in if the green is fast or slow or somewhere in between and adjust on the fly. But you are so right in that I practice the heck out of a course, and never spend any extra time really thinking about the putts...almost like there is nothing I can do to improve it...

Problem is, when I do that, it's all mush to me. See, I have no depth perception because I only see with one eye. So I can't read breaks. If it wasn't for the beads going from right to left or whatever, I'd have no chance at this game. It's why I ultimately gave up on TST because all the greens look flat to me. Yeah if you have a vision problem it will be very tough, sorry to hear that wags. Hey, it's all good. Been like this since birth so it's no biggie. But it sure makes some video games a PITA to play. LOL.

I now miss most putts by no more than a foot or two at worst and usually by a few inches. In fact, it's downright frustrating how many putts I just miss by a hair. In that respect, this game is very unforgiving. You can't be even a little bit off.

Those misses by a hair are the whole reason why I'm on the verge of quitting in the last month or so....in combination with me playing other games too and not practicing TGC every day, those are really messing with my results as you can clearly see in my profile page

It's the ones that you hit perfectly dead center and they roll right over the hole. Fix that glitch and I may start enjoying this game like I once did again.

Those never happened to me or I'd have deleted the game by now LOL However I had a ton of putts hitting the inside edge of the cup and instead of going in or at least bouncing over on the far side, they've bounced 90° on the same side completely defiyng any law of physics... @greeeeaaaatgame

You're starting to sound like the old me. Do I have to give you a Gibbs slap? Now snap out of it man. That's an order. LOL.

Quite an interesting thread this. I've got nothing against people who use charts but can't say it's for me, I agree with those that say it would take a bit of the fun out of the game. That isn't to say I don't look at a shot and make a few mental calculations before I hit it, but these are very much based on experience, not written down, and I'm not even sure I make the same calculations each time! Got me from CC-E to Web so far so I can't be too far out.
I'd just like to agree how important it is not to trust the green beads and to have a proper look around your putt, just like in real life. Most of the time the beads are fine but for some reason sometimes they just lie! Once I learned to trust my eyes I started making a lot more putts. The short game is huge in this game, I still need to improve my pitching and chipping, and that makes the difference.
I don't believe that the charts are the be all and end all, there are so many factors that can affect a shot that I think sometimes it can be an advantage if you're playing by feel rather than using a calculator. Wonder what the next update will bring to swing changes?....

We are talking about a video game, and as every single piece of software out there, specially in video games, the core of it is maths, so there will always be some kind of maths involved. Maybe a solution would be removing the "fixed" carry distance for each club, and bringing into the equation the way each players "swings" to make the distances more flexible, and introducing some kind of "curve of learning" which helped the player to, as his swing improves, making the ball fly further. But I don't know if it's posible from a developpers point of view.
