I cannot find the words to comprehend WTF happened last night, as Smurf said way bck in this thread, Woy was not good enough for my beloved LFC let alone England, the man had no Idea what to do at all, He looked like Brendan Rogers in headlights last night. As for LIMP WRIST HART wow, how crap has he been. Oh well back to qualifiers, where we undoubtedly play well and qualify as usual, only to treat the tournament as another free holiday. Rant over, bck to golf.

What really annoys me about so called England fans is how some of them jump on the bandwagon and blame Rooney whenever we play terrible, it's pathetic. As soon as I got to work this morning I spoke to someone about the match and the first thing he said was about Rooney being terrible and how he should be dropped.
Rooney at least has passion for England. Despite misplacing a few passes he never tried to hide, was always looking for the ball and trying to make things happen. He wasn't any better or worse than any other player last night.
People are quick to forget that he has been our best player at this tournament...

True,Rooney has been our best player (that's not saying much) but he was awful in the second half.
I'd drop him simply because we have to look two years ahead at least, and he will be past it by then.

Regardless of tactics, manager etc the level of how badly the English players folded on the pitch last nite was astonishing.. I agree, Hodgson was very poor in his tactical set up but the amount of basic mistakes I saw English players make last nite was unreal.. I don't buy the argument they're not good enough.. Ok compared to Germany, Italy, France, Belgium. Spain..I think they lag behind, but ICELAND!? if it would have being qualifying England would have most likely beaten them home n away IMO, BUT the minute they enter a major tourney there's a serious mentality issue in my view.. Fear of failure on the big stage, lack of leadership & lack of any guidance from the touchline. Joe Hart made 2 bad blunders in 4 games.. In 2010 Rob Green let in a howler v USA.. The gk example I'm using highlights what I'm saying. Fear. Nervousness. Its rampant throughout the team, not just the gk..
With all that being said Iceland defended well last nite & played with no fear. Shackles off. Nothing to lose. Fair play to them...And from the touchline they implemented a gameplay to assist in stifling the England attack. Its no coincidence that Lars Lagerback has now faced England 7 times & not lost. It's a combo of him doing something right & the opposition he's faced doin something wrong, sounds simple I know, however on talent alone England should beat Iceland 9/10. A mentality issue as I've said.

Personally I think Last night was the worst I've seen Shrek play in a England jersey and I can't stand the chap!
But If Belgium played Lakaku in Holding Midfield or France played Giroud they would have the same issues!
I remember a few years ago in de tour the france Mark Cavendish riding for sky done an interview about him been the dogs body for the team although he was the fastest man on 2 wheels and he uttered the phrase.
"If you played Rooney at Centre Back he would do you a job but you won't get the best out of him" or something along those lines obviously someone seen this and thought I was a good idea (rolf)

Seems as though its the old "Square peg in a round hole" by putting on the team sheet because of who they are and playing them out of position. Can't see the point of Rooney dropping so deep to pick up the ball when there was zero movement in front of him, I think that's why he gave the ball away so much as he was trying to force the ball too often. Sterling should never get selected again until he can consistently cross a ball that doesn't get cut out by the first defender. Was Lalana injured or suspended? At least he shows a bit more football IQ.
Guess we can always bring up the classics: Too many foreigners in the premier league not giving English players a chance.....what was our excuse in the 70's and 80's when we were crap then too?
Players are too tired after a long season......So when we fail miserably in Qatar when thats in Winter it can get blamed on "Not enough match practice"
I don't think a new manager solves anything anyway until we get players who are more creative and have better intelligence.

People are quick to forget that he has been our best player at this tournament... I'm sorry. Rooney was terrible last night. Maybe because it was the quick succession of games he's played but he looked gassed, his legs were gone. You're telling me he did better there than Noble or Drinkwater would have done? He's just not Andrea Pirlo as much as he thinks he is. His slow tempo in that midfield actually made us a worse team. He should have been in the squad for sure, as a more attack minded player playing either behind Kane/Vardy or as backup to them.

Rooney, England's player of the tournament, please!!
I may be a tad biased but I genuinely believe Lallana was our best player throughout, ok he should have had 3-4 goals under his belt but imo he played really well.

Damn it. Forgot to predict scores for tonight... Doh!
Portugal still going strong despite not winning a game yet, strange tournament for them but I'm sure they won't care if they keep going!
On a personal note I predicted 1 - 1 so 40 points for me!
Looking forward to the game tonight, I've got Belgium to win 2 - 1. Hard one to predict in my opinion.

Damn it. Forgot to predict scores for tonight... I also forgot/I've been staying away from sports sights after THAT game... I can now look at the BBC Sports site again (possibly due to them not talking AS much about England), however the Wales game is a nice reminder of what might have been <shakes fist> I've done my other 3 quarter final predictions. I expect some will go to extra time, but I've gone for outright wins for Belgium, Germany and France I kinda hope I'm wrong on all 3 fronts though

Italy to beat the Germans and win the whole thing. I'm expecting it to be close... it is almost an early final, whichever team wins will be clear favourites in my book

This is tricky imo. I suspect if another icelandic miracle occurs against the French, Italy will have a hard time beating them. I believe the Germans on the other hand will run right over them. I think the Italians are more likely to win against the French than the Germans are even if I would hold them both as favorites. Germany Italy game will end in a draw I think. So who advance is pretty much 50/50.
