Can see Poland possibly reaching the semis but winnin it.. No, can't see it. Can see them posing questions of Germany in MD2 tho.. Don't rule out a draw.. Just don't know see enough quality throughout Poland's team to go all the way.. Theyre competent all over the park and have class players like Glik, Pisceck, Krychoviack (spell check), blayschowski (definite spell check) & Lewandowski. The one thing they hav that none of the top sides seem to have is a world class striker. For them to hav a good run comin 2nd in the group wud be dead handy. Wud mean they likely avoid, France, Germany & Italy until a potential final. Im not sayin they will win it I jus think they represent good value for ppl like me who have backed them...lol I agree they've got quality.. No doubt. And yes they do represent value on the betting side of things, just feel they won't go further than semi's which would b a gr8 result for them. 2 big surprises in 2days games..needless to say I scored 0 points. I think a fiver placed on 2days results would have bein a nice little earner.. There's a lot to be said for teams that can defend decent n counter attack with efficiency.. Hungary's gamelan earlier worked a treat, Iceland defended well n stifled the Portuguese while last nite Belgium huffed n puffed but Italy blew their house down... lookin forward to the 2nd rd of fixtures in the group stage..

Portugal weren't very good though. Iceland played football from the dark ages. I'm pleased they drew but someone will murder them.

Tad worried about that one :\ I know the feeling I don't see us taking anything from Belgium, think they'll be a wounded animal from the Italy match, the Belgians have talented individuals but as a team they lack cohesion.. Hope I'm wrong & we at least sneak a draw..

Tad worried about that one :\ I don't think it'll kick off personally, not between England and Wales fans at least. Videos have surfaced online of England and Wales fans drinking together, banding together, chanting about the Russians. It was only in one bar of course, but come tomorrow I think it'll be mostly a good atmosphere between the two.
I can't believe how ignorant or just plain stupid some Russians seem to be. First you have a Russian PM applauding their hooligans, and now you have a Russian player saying the problems in the stadium were as much English fans fault! Are these people blind?
Russia, in terms of sport, aren't exactly covering themselves in glory at the moment are they? Their most famous tennis player banned for 2 years, their Olympic athletes taking drugs left, right and centre, and now Russian hooligans attacking people all over the place and Russians in power defending them? Just imagine what it'll be like in 2 years time when they host the World Cup, a war zone I imagine! Although personally if this continues the World Cup should be stripped from them. That'll never happen though, money talks..

English "fans" doesn't have the best rep either m8. I'm not defending the Russians in any shape or form, but from What's being reported here the english has been worse outside the stadiums than any other group. Ausing riots and fighting with russians, french and local police. It's the same each year though so I'm not terribly surprised. Most supporters are well behaved though as always. It's the select few who spoil it for everyone else...

I'm always interested in how the media in other countries has reported on these types of stories. Over here in England, for the first couple of days, it was reported that England fans were causing problems with the police. It was then reported that actually, although they were being loud and drunk, chanting things they perhaps shouldn't, they didn't really cause much of the actual problems. That was caused by a group of 150ish Russian hooligans who went out targeting English fans, something that has since been confirmed by French authorities. I'm not sure England fans have caused much of the fighting personally, they seem to be the ones who are being attacked.
I think, outside of the stadiums, the police have to take some of the blame as well. They don't seem to be able to handle large groups of drunk football fans and seem to use tear gas way too quickly.

Oh I was meaning that I am worried about England Wales very much in a footballing fashion. I just think that we'd have been better playing them in the first game. Now they see us as wounded and themselves as an unstoppable force. I wish we had scuffed a shot like Robson-Kanu did... maybe then we'd have scored a few more . They certainly believe they have the psychological edge and tbh they are probably right, I just hope we are more clinical. I put us down for a 2-1 win... if that happens my nerves will be shot come the final whistle As for the violence, I have picked up the same impression as you Gary, and to my knowledge we love to report negatively on our own fans and are quick to do so. It looks very much from here that they don't know how to handle our quite abrasive attitude/rowdiness/banter... and if you 'start' on one of our drunkards then they are always going to react. Not that I agree with the whole drinking culture, I really despise it tbh and the aggressiveness that stems from it and not stupid enough to think they are all innocent, but hopefully it is just a minority from our side. If reports are as I have seen RE the Russian 'fans'... then I cannot see how they can host a World Cup IMO... I really hope they don't

A, go ahead when you see the behaviour of Russian fans at the Euros.. & B,When Sepp "gimme a few mill & I'll let u host it" Blatter n co obviously had a "hand" in Russia hosting it.. As for the violence... Its terrible to see....genuine football fans go to these tourneys for their love of football, then u have these hooligans going who obviously are more interested in causing mayhem than watch a fantastic sporting event... they're in a minority gladly.. The Russian fans certainly seem like they've taken hooliganism to a new level.. I feel for those genuine fans who have spent a ton of money to travel to France to witness such behaviour..

Agreed, the Russians can't possibly be allowed to host a World Cup.
It's only due to back-handers that they were awarded it anyway.

New riots and fights between Russian and English "supporters". Don't know who started it yet, but riot police with tear gas has been used again.
I'll ask the question even though nothing of guilt is confirmed.
Why on earth are there English fans in lille? England's game is 40kilomiters away in Lens...

Eye whiteness reports say that 200 English supporters rushed the Russians... I say DQ them both... move or cancel wc 18.
Idiots...

... I'll be livid if idiots from my country get our team kicked out. Ridiculous the whole thing. Seems like a pressure cooker with nothing budging. As for why they are in Lille... I have heard it is being used as a base for whatever reason. I think it may be due to drink restrictions put in place months ago in Lens and it being a 20/30min train ride away. I'm under the impression that many planned to setup base there for a while not for trouble making reasons... at least I hope. Not heard reports of more violence yet but the BBC typically take a little while to verify facts before they put up a story and I've not gone poking around much. Really sad to hear

What I don't get from an English point of view, I'm sure they'd want us to win it... but how can the players be fully concentrated on it when their friends and family are scared to attend the matches? I could see it seriously affecting performances. On a positive note... wow, fantastic strike for the Swiss... the two Romanian guys in my office won't be too happy but excellently taken goal . The Slovakian goals weren't bad either
