I am organising a World Cup Tournament and I would like to invite everyone to take part. I hope to get as many countries as possible involved and the target is to have 16 nations divided into 4 groups of 4 for the early stages, with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the knockout stages. There are of course some countries that have a large amount of players and these countries will have a qualification tournament to see who gets to represent their country in the World Cup. The four countries who have by far the most players are USA, Canada, England and Austrailia. These four nations will all be placed into Group 1. The number of players who qualify to represent these countries will all depend on the number who sign up for the qualifying tournaments. For example, if 80 Americans sign up then the top 20 will qualify, if 100 sign up then the top 30. Whatever the eventual number proves to be, the end result will be that those 4 countries will all send the same amount of players to the tournament, whether that proves to be a team of 20 or 30.
There are some other countries who have around 5 to 20 players and those countries will also have a qualifying tournament to find the top two players to go to the World Cup. All qualifying tournaments will be 72 holes of strokeplay with a 20 day time limit. As there will only be 2 players representing their country in all the other teams, this means that eventually the above mentioned countries will also have to be reduced to teams of 2 for the knockout stages. This will simply be decided by the top two players with the lowest scores after the group matches going through and all other players from that country no longer involved. So effectively it will be a competition within a competition. All matches in the World Cup will be 36 holes of strokeplay with all teammates scores being combined and the lowest scoring team winning and receiving 10 points, 5 points each in the event of a tie. If there happens to be more than 2 players tied with the same score after all the group matches then a separate playoff of 18 holes will be set up to determine the top 2.
I think that this could be a very exciting tournament and the more people and countries involved the better. Even if you do not end up qualifying for your countries World Cup Team, it should still be good fun taking part and trying to qualify. If you are interested in getting involved then please sign up and state your real name and the country you would like to represent.
