oh to have the free time to play this game... sigh.
It would end up being like my Destiny play though... frustrating because I have to solo just about all of it or do some random groups here and there only to have a child start crying and have to leave...

I played both the closed and open betas. Love the concept, the presentation of things (map, inventory, etc), and the single player stuff felt really solid. Not sure about the Dark Zone stuff though. I avoided it for awhile in the open beta and just did missions and explored the city. I went to the DZ eventually and alone. I spent 30 minutes just trying to get a few blocks in before getting destroyed by packs of rogue guys hanging around the entrance area. Wasn't very fun. When you enter the DZ and get hit by grenades before you can move 10 steps, the game feels out of balance. The one time I teamed up with other random people we beat some AI group, got some loot, and then on the way to the evac area they decided to kill me and take the stuff.
The potential is there but it is unlike most PvP games where I can go in alone and instantly be part of a team. Instead I have to find a team or go in with a team. Otherwise it is a frustrating experience. And it can get out of balance real quick if people that prey on new folks are the ones getting stronger. Maybe they can isolate zones for new players and instead of allowing high level players in the new areas.
Not going to pre-order but will be keeping my eye on it for sure.

I had a lot of fun in the dark zone, but was paired with my friend, and we found another group of 2 in there and did a lot of PvE and PvP. Got up to DZ rank 11 and had a bunch of good gear by the end. Definitely fun to explore in there, but like you said, you need to team up. Just stand by an entrance and try to group w/ other strangers...it was pretty easy to find allies.

Originally wasn't going to get this, but I caved and have been playing with HB_Keith and drivert. I heard it was going to be alot like Destiny, which I didn't like because I had no friends that play it. For right now, I'm really enjoying it. Just played a few missions, but I'm actually enjoying the grind for XP and unlocking new stuff. Haven't tried dark zone yet.

What turned me off to the game is the whole "you can turn on and screw other players" part of it. It just doesn't appeal to me and since it appears you have to play it online with other players, I don't want to spend the money for that.

Otherwise it looked great to me. Yeah it works like any MMORPG where you have other online players running around on your screen and you can interact with them. However if you are not in a party when you are start a mission it gives you the option to matchmake, if you decline then whilst you are in the mission area you do not encounter other online players, only bots. Now the online Dark Zone areas. Thats a different ball game! Thats where you can be stabbed in the back etc, but that is in addition to the campaign

Yes, PvZ only in dark zone, and you just drop your dark zone loot (picked up- nothing you can use yet), and you lose dark zone XP. Your character doesn't experience any other issues.
Bought and playing on XB1- coruler2

Not got this yet, was really excited before it came out but watching some streams has made me question that... Just not a fan of having to shoot someone in the head 20 times before they go down. Maybe it doesn't feel that way when you're in the game but it certainly looks like it on the streams.

I would have to agree, it's like the multiplayer races in Forza.
