I think we all go through periods when we are not playing as well as we know we can play. Then overthinking happens and seems to get worse. The first time I was in cc-a I struggled big time. I was trying to hard. I still have rounds where nothing goes right but I do think I am more relaxed now. When I do have a bad round, I set myself a little goal, just to try improve by one or two shots. I focus on me and not the leaderboard to try get myself back on track. I always have goals during a tour round away from tour, just something personal, like a getting a eagle on a certain par 5, to avoid dropping shots on the par threes. Something small but make able. It helps me focus more, these can change mid round, if I am two over after nine, the goal might be to get to under par.I also don't over practice a up and coming course. I usually play it twice, just to get a rough idea of the fairways and greens. I also prefer to play one tour round a day, it helps me avoid losing concentration. Again that's a personal thing, does not suit everyone. What I do make sure I do is enjoy myself, if I play badly, I laugh it off, try to make a joke or two in my posts. If I play well, that's enjoyable in itself. You would not be in cc-a if you were not capable of playing here, which means you are also not that far off web.com standard. I am sure over time it will come good, it only took me a year!

I am sure over time it will come good, it only took me a year! Yep exactly, when that happens you struggle. maybe i should just do 1 round per day, and do other stuff afterwards. I can normally laugh at my own mistakes. Overall the only thing i set myself is to see if i can beat my best finish, tied 34th, if i get 33, then its a good week and proves im improving lol. i dont practice more than 1 round before a tourny, as you say, you can overpractice it. i was +2 i think going into round 6 of the q school looking at web and got a nightmare +10 with evil wind but i think i would have ended up here anyway lol. Thanks, i hope so.

That corking 3rd round has put you in pole position Dan, good luck in the 4th.
I am having a go on the Web tour as well...it's fair to say I won't stay up on current form lol. I though -8 was handy but that would have missed the cut by 3.

If I don't keep my cc-a card, I should retire from the game. It was my main goal at the start of the event, exemption to the web was not even on my mind. Seeing my name at the top though and a chance of getting that exemption is pretty scary. Will it affect my last round, will nerves sending me tumbling down the leaderboard, I guess we are going to find out. Not a good start when I made a balls of the second, I got away with it a bit by making par but not picking up a shot there could be costly and that poor play continued when I dropped a shot on the third. It was sloppy play, I was not focusing enough. I was struggling, two more pars followed, I was getting my approach shots wrong, getting the wind wrong. The last round was turning into a major challenge, I was having a blast. I went back to even par on six with my first birdie of the round, nice to see that yellow number. A great tee shot on seven left me with a five foot birdie putt, it was a sideways putt with a lot of break and brought a great sense of pleasure when it dropped. I came so close to three in a row, the line of my putt looked so good until the last second when it rolled over the edge. I finished the front nine with par to remain one under. That was tough going but anything under par will be good enough to keep my card.
The back nine started with a birdie that I was lucky to get, my approach was to short. I hit the putt harder than I planned but somehow it went in, two under. It was game over on eleven when I dropped another shot, the frustrating thing about that was I had a good birdie chance which I again over hit. With the chance of a win gone, I could now relax and enjoy the rest of the round. I went two under on the thirteenth, again was not making life easy for myself but at this stage smart play had gone out the window and was just having fun. Another lip out on the next hole made me laugh, when it's not going well those close ones always go the wrong way. Dropped shot number three on fifteen was followed by par on sixteen. That about sumed up my day, no birdies on the two par fives. I got birdie on seventeen before hitting a tree on the last, it was one of those rounds, still I recovered for par to finish two under.
You would think I would be disappointed, a chance of my first win, a chance at the web thrown away but I had way to much fun over the four day to be disappointed. I am going to be staying in cc-a. I played way above my expectations on the first challenge circuit major so can not complain at all. Now we wait and see who takes it. Rob, your looking good at 24 under, will keep my fingers crossed for you. As usual, it's been fun, good luck to anyone still with rounds to play.

Congrats you help it together enough to get your Exemption to CC-A. If you don't get an exemption to web this week then you're still a step closer to joining the elite anyway.

Good effort Dan, I know how you feel with the consistency of play. I'd be flabbergasted if you didn't make the A tour again from -21. Nerves might play a part in a few others yet so a top 5 could happen.

I think over the four days, my final score is a fair reflection, I pushed my luck at times during the first three rounds. To find myself top of the leaderboard after three was a shock but a pleasant one. Ill be surprised if I make the top five, especially with the back nine of the last round playing that bit easier but stranger things have happened. Keeping my cc-a card will be a nice reward for my efforts. I really enjoyed this tour, for a major it nice to see scores on the lower side. It is close at the top, so it will be a exciting couple of days to see how it pans out.
