Well gang...my struggles continue. Just can't find my rhythm right now. Firestone is boring but it can bite you and bite you hard. Nothing more to say...I think I may need to step away for a bit.
Winds:
10-16mph 8-12mph 9-15mph 10-18mph
highs/lows ebbs/flows
67-66-70-71

From time to time we need to change something. Perhaps, instead of stepping away, changing your playing "routines" could work. Spacing your rounds in time, or taking a bit less of practice, who knows... Anyway, as long as you know how to play the game, it's a matter of patience to get back to the wins

Alright. I'm going in, ambulance on standby, list of swear words ready, shot gun loaded.
Really don't even feel like it.
Lets get this over with so I can get back in the designer.

Thats exactly how i feel. The designer friendbomber did a great job with this course and looking at the winds, this is going to be a real hard slog.

Ripped me a new one. If anyone is looking for me on top of the leader board this week, you wont find me there, lol I'll be mired down near the bottom. The course is deceptive. Kind of boring (no offense intended) and easy looking at 1'st glance but the greens get progressively harder, couple that with the winds and its a real grind. Plus some real weirdness on putts today, balls gliding right over the hole at slow speed without so much as a bump to stop within 2 inches on the other side. I'm glad its over, wasnt looking forward to it even before Jim posted the conditions. Getting a bit of TGC burnout I guess. Thats exactly how i feel. I'm schedule to play the first tourney of the year today, but PSN (PlayStation Network) has been down since 6 am (PST). Still not working, so I guess I'll have to try tomorrow morning. Do I have some sort of delay when this happens? Can I have one more day to play it out?

Not sure of the last day, but on friday you will be able to play for sure

I am at a loss as to what the hell happened to me on this weeks tour, The inconsistency from one round to the next has broken me and i'm not sure where to go from here.
I started with a slow and steady 69, leaving me 1 under, it truly was the most uneventful round ever! lol
I then followed this up with a 2 over 72, riddled with bogeys, finding water where most would struggle to find it, every time I recovered with a birdie i'd follow with a bogey.
Then I started playing the golf i'm capable of. Birdie misses everywhere I was 3 under at the turn I could have been 9. I then went par crazy. Until the 15th swung round a hole in one!! Yes who knows. maybe it's not to make a tilt at the top 10. I followed up with a tidy birdie on the massive par 5 and then another on the next. A 7 under 63. I was 4th on the ps4 leaderboard for the round and had high hopes for the 4th and final round.
Then it happened, my standard collapse, only there was nothing standard about this,I couldnt hit a fairway if it was a mile wide, I was hooking more than Devine Brown in her prime, the first 6 holes went as follows bogey, bogey, bogey, bogey, par! (I start to get my hopes up), bogey. 6 holes in on a round i'm hoping will put me into double figures under par and now I doubt I will finish under par! How does this happen to me so often, I cant play tournaments!! Once I was buried then it was case of just coasting round with pars, the approach was horrible, the putting was worse, I got what I deserved! Finally I hit my first birdie of the round on the 17th but by now I really don't care, finishing 4 over and 2 under overall on the week.
Is it just me who consistently has that one horrible round? I even threw in one that was just bad this week. Lol. I feel like i'm never gonna progress and that I'll be here forever.
Any tips for combatting these collapses would be appreciated, as right now i'm beyond disappointed

When I'm on I can run with the big dogs..but when I'm off I just can't seem to right the ship. That inconsistency is haunting me right now...and I don't now how to shake it...I feel your pain brother.

Dave I completely understand how you feel. I'm sitting in 8'th place right now with a -4. That wont last too long when the final two rounds post. I fell apart. I too found water in one of my rounds.
I really can't get my head around it. I am consistently in the top ten on the PC leader boards in my practice rounds for all tournament courses, always up there. Then when it's tournament time it feels like the game plays differently. Mis hits are punished more and take you more off line than they do in casual play. Thats what it feels like to me, not stating fact.
January 21 is my one year anniversary here and have played every tournament since joining. Back when I first joined I was somewhat competitive, now it seems like I have hit a wall and will be mired down here forever. The game is losing its fun factor for me. I know its just a video game (blah blah) but its a video game of a sport, in sport people want to be competitive. I am not anymore. Granted I had kind of a tough year with an illness so I will blame that lol.
I do find myself wondering how long I am going to keep at this game, I see me retiring from the tour by summer if I don't step up my game. I know where my weakness is, its my consistency on approach. Some days I can feel dialed in and land the ball within 10 feet of the hole, and I make 10 foot putts 99% of the time. Other days my approaches are all over the place and I'm left with 20-30 foot putts which I'm much less consistent on
From now on in I'm taking a very calm attitude to my tournament play. Quit trying so hard. I'm done playing these courses over and over up to 10-15 times a week, its getting me no where. I play casual practice rounds and do very well when there is nothing to lose. I need to transfer that line of thought to tournament play. EG; I played one round, 1'st time ever on that Ye Old Douglas course (gold) yesterday and hit -12, top of the leader board...oh wait I was the only one who had played it at that point lol. Then went and played Jim's practice tuneup at Emirates and couldnt do any better than -24 total. I was too busy worrying about what everyone else was doing and it cost me strokes.
I'm also going to try and remind myself of those I see on the leader boards who are shooting +20 for a single round and how they must feel, they probably will read this and say oh boo hoo, much the same way I do when I see a PGA player complain because they shot over par on a single round lol
So those are my tips Dave, I'll let you know how it works out. Just know, you are not alone in your struggles, I get it, I really do, I'm there myself. Baffled at times. I really need that one tournament where I finish top 5 or even a top ten to get some confidence back.
