Have played a few rounds at our next course -- Turnberry -- enough to develop a few initial opinions of the course. My thoughts:
1) Most holes will give you the drive off the tee. Not too punishing with pretty generous landing zones and light rough for wayward shots
2) Really undulating greens. I mean, some of the hilliest I have played in my few months on TGCTours. I didn't notice any holes on unfair lies, but if you are any distance beyond 20 feet, you will likely have yellow or a steep green break between you and the hole, making one putting really tough.
3) LEAVE YOUR APPROACH SHOT BELOW THE HOLE. Seriously. there are enough slopes around the pins - at least on the standard version - that you need to plan where your ball will end up after rolling. Leave yourself uphill putts between 10-20 feet and birdies are really makeable. Really easy to leave yourself with a sidehill putt or a really slick downhill putt that will roll out a long way with a miss.
4) Sharpen up your pitches. Due to the slope (and issues with wind if it picks up during rounds), you usually want to reduce roll-out/spin as much as possible once the ball lands. I found that pitches - even those 90yd pitches - were critical to keeping the ball fairly close to the hole.
5) Don't expect very low scores if the winds pick up. Due to the skinny-ness of fairways and green slopes, winds could really play havoc on this course if above 15mph.
Have fun - I enjoy this track as it forces you to think about your approach shot/rollout/angle. Seems a great course to start out the Web.com finals.

Good stuff. Looking forward to it (I think I'll be there by making the cut this week?)

Congrats Colin. Glad you've reached here in time for the finals :-)
The course seems an excellent fair test. Although I'm getting tired of the strong winds (we seem to get more high winds than low winds on average), this course can handle it so I hope she blows hard as it will make a fantastic links test. Great course to start the finals.

Yeah as much as I enjoy playing in the high winds, it's getting a bit crazy seeing 15-22 at least twice per tournament...

Shot a 60 on the Thursday setup during a practice round. Which pretty much equates to a 70 during the tournament. :/

Certainly the greens are tough. Not visually the most exciting place. Find it a little boring but it's going to be a good test

Same opinion as Hammo really.
I shot something between -10 and -12 at a canter on my one practice round. Although I think I played the original and not the course for next weeks tournament with the various setups.

Visually boring? I think it looks gorgeous. Then again, my favourite course on tour so far is the GC of Pennslyvania which not a lot of people liked and my least favourite was Bunyip which loads of people like so it seems my tastes differ somewhat haha.

I agree with the assessment -- visually ok, pretty accessible off the tees, and the greens are very challenging. If the wind is blowing, getting inside 12 feet on the greens will be everything. Any putt beyond that is a real test. Congrats, Colin, and looking forward to the start of the finals! Good luck to all.

Everything about this course feels unfinished. My first impressions were straight-forward but bland. Interestingly (or not) this is the same designer as Grangethorpe which is wk 36??
Some tricky pin placements and I think there are only 2 different pin positions across the 4 days although I could be talking BS! There are different tee positions too so be careful on club selection, especially tee shots as default can sometimes be 5w!!
Can any PS4 players tell me if they struggle with controller lag or swing difficulties on Saturday setup - I left loads of approaches at 94% and felt like I was swinging the sh*t out of my controller for it!
Could be interesting if the winds blow hard this week. Otherwise expect a birdie/eagle fest.
Nate is right about placement on the greens - this equates to me being shafted. Someone tell me how the slightest miss hit draw into a 3 mph wind made my ball move half a greens width.

Not sure what happened to you, but hopefully it's an isolated event!

Then I see the swing animation and if I hit the shot it feels like a half swing. Maybe I'm getting interference although as I mentioned I keep the controller connected via the wire. I wish they'd get a move on with the update for the PS4 although it'll prob screw something else!

No problems on PS4 here. Sorry to hear you're having problems pal. I'm confused to the half-finished assessment? Am I the only one that thinks it's a corking course? Haha. Although, I didnt quite like the week after as much. Only played that the once though and the best courses usually grow on me.
