I just played the recent tournament and the ghost ball of someone doing rather well in Champ B was constantly chipping on the green. I tried to record it but with my advancing years and diminishing brain cells I could not do it. Anyhoo, I played against his ghost for the 4 rounds and he chipped on almost every hole. The only consolation was that he totally stuffed up his final round. Allan.

Wow. I don't even see why people would even want to chip on the green. It's way more difficult than putting to me.

Wow. I don't even see why people would even want to chip on the green. It's way more difficult than putting to me. I did it before I joined the tours. I would flop any putt over 40 ft. It is easier than trying to get the right distance putting when factoring in uphill or down hill putts and green speed.

Maybe this could be an option for tournament setup that HB could look at. Force putter if ball = green.

Maybe this could be an option for tournament setup that HB could look at. Force putter if ball = green. Watching ghost balls of suspected people is best way. There is situations where its okay to chip/flop on green. (odd shapes where fringe/rough/bunkers cuts in your path to the hole)

Is that allowed in real golf? I'll await to be chastised for implying TGC is not real!

The rule states any club, any stroke, anytime, anywhere, anyplace as long as it's a legal club.
All this has been beaten to death and caused a many heated discussion.

Putter must be used on the green unless your line is obstructed by fringe/rough/bunker, in which case use of a putter is not mandatory. Violations of this policy will result in event disqualification. Policing of this issue will be the responsibility of tour members. If you see a ghost ball chipping on the green and it is obvious that there is no obstruction between them and the pin, record a video and submit it to us at commish@tgctours.com (not on the forums!). The video must be from the perspective of the ghost ball - you can do this by selecting Watch Replay and pick the ghost ball that is chipping on the greens. TGC Tours will have the final say on all cases.
