Here are the settings that are set within the societies...you cannot change any of these settings: Swing Difficulty: Master Swing Timing: On Distance Control Meter (Platinum/Elite/Kinetic/Challenge Circuit): Off Distance Control Meter (3-Click): On Distance Control Assist: Off Putt Preview: 0 Course Yardage: Book Only Pro Vision: All off Scout Camera: UI Off Lie Grid: Open Green Grid: Open Pin Preference: Open Aim Marker: Marker Only Wind Display (Platinum/Elite/Kinetic): Meter Only Wind Display (Challenge Circuit/3-Click): Open Distance Display: Carry Swing Input (Platinum/Elite/Kinetic/Challenge Circuit): Swing Stick Swing Input (3-Click): 3-Click But the things marked as "Open" will use whatever your personal settings are set to. So, for example, if you're playing in the CC event, and have green grids off within your settings, no grids will show up. If you turn them on again, they would show. Also, you need to follow these steps to see elevation: Load up PGA 2K23: Profile Menu > Display & HUD > Distance Info Position > Set to "In HUD" This will let you see elevation information from your current position to the pin. If you have this set to "Off" or "On Marker" you will not see elevation information at all. I checked and did everything right so I have no idea what's wrong. Anyway, it's all moot. I'll just hang out here with my friends and chat.

Don't give up so easily waggy, you only just got here! This is a game you need to put a bit of time in to the learn, but it is doable. There's no reason to be playing without the green grids either. Most of your problems are fixable, the rest is just playing time.

I shot 41 over in round 1 and another 31 over in half of round 2. That's a pace of 62 over par for round 2 and 103 over for the first 2 rounds. That isn't even on the planet let alone the ball park. How much do you think I'm going to improve over that? Maybe I get to a point where I'm only shooting a bogey for each hole and 16 over for a round. Where is that going to get me in this league? I won't even make it out of Q-School. Thanks for the encouragement but this game is way too hard for me. It makes TGC 2 look like a kid's game and I never got better than8 over par on that one.

This feels like some classic wagtunes here. This time you've refunded the game so I guess it'll be different but otherwise this sounds like almost every week back in the TGC days. This game is too hard. I'm the worst golfer ever and am never going to improve. This is the last event I'm going to be playing. Yet you always came back and you did slowly improve and you saw where you eventually ended up. Not trying to tell you to keep going but just a reminder that you've been through this before with the same attitude. Maybe consider it again in a couple weeks when the game inevitably goes on sale again. If not then look on the positive side of things. Back in the day you complained the game should be more realistic and give you scores closer to what you'd get in real life. As someone who's never played a real life round before +50ish is probably a lot closer to the score you'd get than -8 is. You're finally getting what you thought you wanted all along.

John, there is no question that this game is much closer to what I'd score if I played a real round of golf. In fact, I don't even think I'd do this well. For one thing, having gone to a driving range, no way can I drive a ball 265 yards. I think my longest drive at the range was about 250 yards. But here's the thing. On the range, I shot the ball much straighter. That's not to say I didn't have errant drives. I did. But nothing close to this. When I played pitch and putt (I'm sure you have them where you are) I was ten times better than I am pitching and putting with this game. Granted, I'm a lot older now and probably can't even swing a club anymore with all my aches and pains. So this is as close to golf as I'm going to get. But to be perfectly honest, had I bought this with my Steam bucks (gifts given to me by my daughter) I would have stuck with it. But I couldn't see spending actual money on a game that I am so God awful at. So when it goes back on sale, yes, I will be repurchasing it. And I will stick with it. But remember, I never got better than 8 to 10 over par with TGC 2. When Scott checked my controller data, he even had to concede that there had to be something wrong with my controller because the deviation was all over the place. So if my controller is that bad, there is only so good I'm going to get. What I don't understand is how TGC 1 is so forgiving. I can still drive straight with that game, having played it the other day. Since then, the games have become more realistic. And let me say this. On a technical level, I love what they did with PGA 2k23. I love the point system. There is so much more strategy involved with this game. On that level I think they did an amazing job. And for anybody wanting a real challenge I would absolutely recommend it with the warning that out of the box it is incredibly hard. Aside from that, I'm not going anywhere as far as the forum is concerned. I missed this place and I plan on hanging around for a long while. I'll probably hang out here and in off topic. I have so much to share with my "friends" as far as what I've been up to lately, which includes a sitcom I've been working on that's going to premiere on Youtube in October. Anyway, thanks for welcoming me back. I really appreciate it.

Just for the heck of it, I pulled out TGC 2 and chose an official hard course. Shot 16 over. That's about right for me. A little better than a bogey a hole. It certainly wasn't 41 over.
There is no comparison between the two games. As hard as I thought TGC 2 was (and it is) PGA 2k23 blows it away as far as difficulty.

The Steam spring sale just started and the game was on sale for about 20 bucks. So I got it. This time I'm going to do this right. Before I even attempt Q-School, I'm going to play the game casually in order to get some kind of a handle on it. I will also make sure it is set up properly so I get a green grid and wind direction and speed.
Then, when I think I'm ready, I will go to Q-School and will keep at it until I earn my card. However long it takes. I just have one question. How often is Q-School? Once a week? Once a month? Just so I have some idea how many shots I'll have at getting through it.
Anyway, I'm not going to let this game beat me. I can be very stubborn when I want to be and sometimes that's not a bad thing.
Thank you all for your patience.
Wags is back.

Q-school is every week, follows the same schedule as CC. Get the TGC settings sorted then personally would battle your way though career for a bit to get some fittings and skills etc for your player. When the game was released took a little while for people to find their feet so don't be disheartened.

When the game was released took a little while for people to find their feet so don't be disheartened. Thanks. Do the fittings really help? Which ones do you suggest I get first? The fittings definitely help and they work different ways. The swing plane, timing and transition widen the forgiveness zone (width of white area on the meters). Power adds distance. Lie narrows the range of your lie - it does NOT improve your lie, but rather it narrows 60-70% to 64%-66% (made up example), so you can more accurately predict what will happen with your shot. Putt path makes the width of the "you made the putt" lane wider (more likely to make the putt) and the putt weight makes it more likely you will get the distance correct. Shaping increases how much shaping affects the ball (the higher the attribute, the more the ball will spin, loft or curve).
I recommend you play career mode with TGC settings (set the opponent strength to the weakest possible to maximize your credit grind) until you have enough credits to upgrade non-legend and then fit all legend fittings to your clubs. Anything before then is going to be tossed out later (so wasted credits?). You also won't really know what you need until you have played a number of rounds. If you can grind to Level 50 before you do fittings and skills (below), that is optimal but it is a long grind.
Last thing, look at your archetype. Most of us chose Rhythm as it improves timing and swing plane. But some folks found their swings were dialed in so they moved to other archetypes.
After a while, skills matter as well, but I would also wait until you hit level 50 until you apply your skills. Or you can apply them as you go and pay 500 credits at the end to reset them and get what you really need.
Good luck!

Thanks. So I started career mode wth Q-School. I shot 35 over, which is still better than my 41 over the first time I played this. So I'm improving at least a little. Question: I notice hitting the Y on the XBox 1 controller no longer shows me where my ball is going to land. I guess that's because of the settings we have to use. If so, how am I supposed to know where I am aiming? There is no way to see the fairway from the tee. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
