Someone above in this thread said they were getting different winds in "training" rounds. The winds are set for the tournament play only - they'll be different in practise rounds, so if you're expecting them to be the same in practise, they won't be.

True, if you play the course in Play Round the winds will be different - but if people are all playing the same Practice event they should be the same and from what I'm reading, it's within this practice event that there are different winds. Now that's assuming they are all playing on the same system and it's not spread out over different systems with different naming conventions.

Some of you people will complain about anything. Lol To Alexander, really man? Wind wait is going to be worse? People don't have the time to sit around and wait hours until every shot has a good wind. If it's swirling, it's going to help people on some holes and hurt people on some holes. Just because it's not fair for the 1st hole that somebody has helping winds, doesn't mean it won't be the opposite on the next hole. Also, I'd much rather hit my approach in with headwind. I think the update is fantastic and really changes things around here. The main goal of the update was to eliminate the competitive advantage of wind waiting. I am sorry, but this did not happen. With strong winds the benefit of waiting even got bigger. If someone is sad enough/has the time to sit for an hour waiting for the wind to be blowing in the perfect direction on EVERY shot then he/she has far bigger problems than what score they shoot

Does anyone have any data on how quickly the wind direction changes? I thought I read somewhere it spun 180 degrees every 5 minutes, that would obviously be a problem. I might have to just sit on the first tee and see what the wind does.

I might have to just sit on the first tee and see what the wind does. I've found it varies from round to round. Eg - US Open practice Tour Round 1 - it was swirling about regularly, more often than every 5 mins and i had to be on my toes. Round 2 - It stayed pretty much in the same direction all round, with only very slight variations in both speed and direction

Question? The practice tournaments do they have an end date or are they unlimited tries?
Also I have seen the wind do a 180 on a hole but on the next hole return to it's original direction.

Some players are always trying to figure out the math when it comes to golf games. So if the wind direction time frame can be figured out, someone will. You guys here are already trying to do that.
But at least wind waiting in general has changed for the better. If someone can figure out when wind direction might change, its ok. They will be grinding out some tough rounds as for time frame. Messing up their rythem.
My biggest concern is ghost balls. I bet more people will be playing with them now more than ever. Easy solution, being able to turn them off with tourney creator. Which in our case would be TGCT. But the creator should be able to check ghost balls to verify top rounds.
Mark my words, next complaint will be similar ghost balls. Friends will work together when they know their winds are similar direction.
Always in life when one thing is fixed, it creates another problem. But for me, I don't really care. When I'm hot I'm hot, when I'm not I'm not. Doesn't matter the wind direction or speed. We still have to execute the shot, even if we know where we should be hitting it.

Fourrrrr I like your suggestion to eliminate ghosts for one reason: I find it frustrating to see how much better the top players putt. Otherwise I see no reason to eliminate them.

Great now we are going to need to put a time limit on the rounds to prevent people sitting there waiting on the right wind direction! LOL

I am all for everyone shooting in the same wind and am all for lower scores with the higher winds but I am not happy that 16 mph wind changed from blowing north west to east in mid flight! This caused me to shoot a double bogey and is putting me closer to the cut line.

All this talk about wind reminds me of that post back on the HB forums. For those who missed it...
Hey guys, it's me, The Wind. I can't begin to tell you how depressed I've been lately. I get picked on a lot. I am blamed for people's misfortunes on a regular basis. I feel like nobody really wants me around. Nobody wants to play with me. People don't want to invite me to parties unless they can tell me how to act. I'm out here just trying to be myself. I think I'm a fun guy. Maybe sometimes I get a bit loud. Sometimes I like to crack a couple cold ones and cut loose. But that's part of my charm. Isn't it? Am I seen as a bully because of the way I push the ball around? Trust me, that dude would be nothing without me. And why is it nobody remembers the good times? The times when I've helped them out. How about the Eagle I helped you get on that par 5, the 300+ yd drive you hit to clear that bunker, or when I helped steer you around that dog leg? Did you think that was skill? Get real bro. And what about the laughs we share when I take your buddy for a ride into the cabbage? You're telling me that his misfortune doesn't bring a little bit of joy into your life? Please.
