Friday is the day for everyone who has the early access edition. Been a long time since we've had a proper single-player Bethesda Games Studios developed RPG. Everything looks really promising so far and I think it'll be a return to form after Fallout 76 (which,to be honest, is actually very fun these days after numerous patches)
Anyone else counting down the hours til Friday?

Not by the look of it Craig!! From a personal point of view I'm on the fence. Not the type of game I would normally play, though I did enjoy Fallout 4, but it's free on PC/XB game pass so I may have a nose.

Probably my favourite genre especially to play in winter, weirdly lol This, Forza Motorsport and Cities Skylines 2 all on Gamepass next eight weeks or so. I'll be like a kid at Christmas.

Does this come with any extra content for that £35? because I will just wait if not. I am a big fan of Fallout 3 and New Vages, played them to death and all the DLC. Never got round to Fallout 4 or 76. Starfield definitely looks like my type of game though, a bit like Mass Effect but Starfield's combat looks much better.

The upgrade gets you 5 days early access, digital artbook and soundtrack and the first expansion. Given the expansion will probably be £20 it's maybe wise to wait. I'm just buzzing for it. Fallout NV is one of my all-time favourite games. I'm hoping this and / or Avowed next year scratch that itch.

I think what looks so good about the game is it is more Sci fi looking and I really like that. Mass Effect is more Star Wars with it's exotic looking aliens. This like Star Citizen looks more about Sci Fi and I love the futuristic NASA look. Tbh If it comes with soundtrack, digital art book and £20 expansion looks like I am in (I do have £25 in Microsoft store vouchers with nothing to spend them on till now 😁). Doesn't Elite Dangerous let you land on planets also and have FPS combat mechanics. Another game I own like Fallout 4, my backlog is huge last thing I need is more games 😮

I'm all in. Single player RPGs are my favorite genre of game. I've played every single Elder Scrolls (yes, I started with Arena), and Fallout game. I've been recently playing Fallout 76, and like hammersman said, it is very good now. I paid for the subscription for a couple of months and ran it on a private server and it made it a whole new (and many times better) experience. I stopped my sub on Aug. 22, knowing my time will switch from F76 to Starfield.
I was going to wait till the 6th, but then I realized this is a holiday weekend (in the US), and I'll be off work, soo.... why not. I'm gonna go ahead and get it tonight so I can play this weekend.

I have to say I watched the 45 minute video and the space combat and ship customisation looks great also. The art design looks fantastic, as I am a huge sci fi fan from books to cinema I really can't wait to play this. Isn't this the kind of game that Star Citizen was going to be, but that game will never end up being finished. As this has fps sections this will definitely be a keyboard and mouse for me, would be nice to have HOTAS support for the space exploration and combat.

I have said that very same thing to numerous people.
Also, think about the other things that they have told us.
The game has over 1000 planets that can be explored. The game will fully support the modding community and anything they come up with.
Not only can every planet can be modded, modders can create planets. At 150 hours in, Pete Hines said he isn't even close to finishing the base game. Take a moment and let all that sink in.
Also, with all the modding support, you'll probably end up all sorts of HOTAS support. With Skyrim and Oblivion I completely changed those entire games with mods. In those days the modders were just there, and Bethesda acknowledged them, and was ok with it, but didn't really embrace it. Very interested to see what they can do with this one, with full support of Bethesda now.

Early reviews look good. Any minus points seem to revolve around Bethesda game design (which are plus points for me personally) rather than technical issues as it seems to be Bethesda's best performing game so far. Very excited now. Hopefully we are all impressed tomorrow / tonight depending on timezones and how far we want to push our bedtimes

Hopefully we are all impressed tomorrow / tonight depending on timezones and how far we want to push our bedtimes Been a long time since dived full throttle into an RPG, I threw everything into all the Dragon age games when they were released, beat them all on the hardest settings. Only held off from Baldur's gate 3 which looks fantastic just because this game is what I have been looking for for a long time. Unfortunately might only be able to properly delve into fully on Sunday.

Been doing lots of reading up about this game. Old pc here 4790k and gtx 980 I know will struggle but like most games should be able to manage. Then I see "ssd required". I have a 256 gig ssd with windows on it and not much else. (can't find where all the space is being used) 2k23 on it. Yesterday was down to 14.5 gigs free. So on a quest to free up space I do some googling. Ok, lets try reducing the recycle bin size. I lower the size and all of a sudden I lose 6 gigs or so. Now have 6 gigs free. WTF?
Doing a deep dive into my drive I notice a Destiny 2 file on the ssd which I must have forgotten to move way back when I moved D2 from my ssd to my hd. "Packages" 105 gigs. Ok, open Steam mover, and begin the process. I now have 114 gigs free. But Starfield needs 125. Will move 2k over to the hd, but even then I'm really pushing the space.
I may try and install it on my regular HD for now and maybe at some point upgrade the ssd. This pc is getting tired and has failing usb ports and only two work consistently. One being used for my dongle for my logitech mouse and keyboard, the other for my controller. So a usb ssd probably wont work.
At some point need to buy a new gaming pc but am currently dealing with health issues and need to sort that crap out before thinking of a pc upgrade. No point spending 3k on a new pc only to wake up dead 3 months later lol.
I really want to give this game a go as I like the rpg open world shooter thing. So it's going to be a compromise in graphic settings just to get this game to run somewhat smoothly. This pc has been a trooper though. It runs MSFS fairly well with the graphic settings set to higher than what you would think I can do. Testament to the place that built it. Guy is/was a gamer and all my computers I bought from him have run well. I don't think he does builds anymore. His website for his store is all about corporate IT stuff. Pandemic took a hit to his pc store it looks like.
And there is my Starfield experience. Mostly reading another forum about pc performance for the game and watched a little bit of twitch yesterday of some gameplay. Have a week to try and scrape some more room out of this ssd. Haven't bought the game yet.

Had a lot of real life stuff (normal just busy) to take care of before playing last night, so I only had time to barely make a character. My plan is to play more tonight when less busy and can stay up late.
First impression was that this is a pretty typical Bethesda game in gameplay, which like you alluded to Craig / Hendomedes is a good thing to me.
hammers1man if you have not tried Baulder's Gate 3, give it a shot. It is pretty awesome, and I'm very impressed with it. Anyone that likes D&D or old school roleplaying, or story driven games will love it. Others will/should appreciate the general quality of it.
I saved up in May for Starfield and Life By You, and when LbY got delayed till next year, I used my saved money for Baulders Gate instead, and have not been disappointed at all.
TimB I hope you start feeling better man, and can upgrade. I was actually running a 4570K and a 1070 GPU back in April and made the decision then to rebuild for these games coming out this month. Was a nightmare at first (that I think I detailed somewhere in a post) but its all working now, and hopefully will for another 10 or so yrs like the last one did!

@timb I hope things calm down for you soon and you're able to push on with the new build.
Maybe, being a pc gamer, this wouldn't appeal to you at all but performance on Series S seems to be - going by reviews/ digital foundry video - surprisingly stable. Those go for very low prices. I believe you can get a refurb from the Microsoft store for not much more than £100 from time to time.
As I say, maybe not ideal, and certainly not comparable to playing on PC but just a heads up on a possible stopgap.
