In the end, first round gave me more trouble than the last… I probably put you off! Well played. I'd be more than happy with that after my first round!

In the end, first round gave me more trouble than the last… Beat me by one on that round. I'm still a little torn on those greens. I did quite like the razor-thin margin for error, and I quite like being really punished for poor shots and having no out but yeah I guess it really does straddle that line between fair and difficult or just stupidly hard and quite unrealistic. I'll play it a little safer from now on. I'd be keen to know what horusphoenix thought as I know both like a challenge. Too far or alright? Great scoring all in all though and that first round was most likely a warm up. I know Longpole likes to not know scores but I see Horus has tied me for the early lead in the clubhouse on Xbox. My score was on the last page. Tight so far. Neil licking his lips 🤣

I just played my first round in this society and did much better than I expected I would having never played the course (+2). I made more putts than I expected or it would have been much worse. The course was a good selection to showcase this kind of tour - wide fairways, greens not too severe and green speeds just right (IMO). A tighter design with more "Canuck" style greens might not be in the cards for this format. I don't know if I will finish the event, though, because more than reminding me of real golf it reminded me of a kind of tournament we used to play on Sunday mornings where 2 man teams would have one guy blindfolded and the other guy would be lining him up and selecting the club. Then the blindfolded guy would have to hit the shot with only the input from his partner. Fun but nobody wanted to play this way more than once every 6 months as it took 4 hours to play 9 holes. I will say, though, that I came away from the round absolutely loving Legend swing difficulty. If there is to be a season 10, I would like to see a conversion of ALL tours to Legend. You hit a Perfect on Legend and it really feels like an accomplishment. Good luck with this format. I might try it again. I see that people that don't play gridless greens can spend too much time moving the camera about to see the read. Personally I think I spend much less time than those analysing grids and beads. Putting gets me out of trouble as it did in round 1 for me. It's all feel for distance and seeing that break in my head, like real golf you guesstimate and if you have been playing 9 years only that way your guestimates drop in the hole so much more. Putting in pro golf is the toughest part of the game, to me grids and beads take all that challenge away. I have days where I hole everything and days when nothing drops and that's just like the real game of golf. I do admit with this Razer controller I have to concentrate so much on my putt path as it is so easy to push and pull putts on Legend difficulty. Legend to me is a massive step up in difficulty to the whole game,I absolutely love it with ultra sim settings.

I've got to agree with you on that "spending less time" analyzing putts. Since I had very low expectations of my ability to read gridless greens and I had not yet developed any refined senses as to how to interpret the few visual clues gridless greens give, I was going with my first impressions combined some info gathered as the approach shot rolled past the flag. As it turned out, I was righter than I expected but that could have been beginners luck, too. This also could be one of those areas where having a 4k monitor vs a 1080p monitor might give an advantage. It does take time to really get a feel for gridless but putting (sorry for the pun 🤪)the time in and getting good at putting is so rewarding. Never forget as this is a prime example, we had a guy who joined our ultra sim society a few years ago complaining about how hard it was to read the greens with grids off, 3 months later I played his ghost and he was holing everything, he is a top sim golfer now and plays regularly on this settings. I think people who play grids can be so much more aggressive with putting as a 6 foot return putt is not a biggie and you guys expect to hole 8 or 9 out of 10 of those 10 footers. Turn those grids off and suddenly those birdie putts of 10 footers feel really good. The more you play the more you appreciate how good no grid putting is and most importantly how realistic it is.

I always tell some of one's that ask for tips playing true sim , AIM FOR PAR , 2 putts , lagging is important at the beginning, honestly once you've had a go and got used to it all it is couple of quick looks and putt . It's actually a lot quicker then reading beads looking at the scout cam or being a mathematical genius . It's great having a more realistic leaderboard up and them 4ft putts are tense and u gotta focus It's fantastic. Don't know about u but I love shouting at the telly now and again it's all part of the experience. Craig (Hendomedes) has some true sim loaded up on twitch give him a follow , your love it .

What helped me at the beginning in TGC2 was taking some ghosts to give me an idea of the read until I got comfortable myself. Obviously I don't use them now but at the start it's really helpful having that rough idea of the slope. And yeah obviously just having ghosts adds a bit of time. Then as others have said just looking at the general lie of the land rather than getting nitpicky over every blade of glass. I think sometimes people over analyse a bit when starting out.
But thanks for the kind words CMattax, mate. I'm agreed on legend swing but I think the guys would get a fair bit of pushback on it. Although, tbh tee to green the difference is minimal but enough to really bring some more danger into play. I really like it too.

This weekend is the calm before the storm before a mad month in work so I won't be around much til mid-September most likely.
Next four events set up. Hopefully Hammersman finds the time to get them up on PlayStation/ PC (if not, no worries obviously)
They're slightly dialled back from that last events final round but scoring should still be tricky enough.
Should give us a decent sample size to see how the settings impact scoring and if people enjoy it. Catch up with you all soon. Play well!

Round 2 with El Presidente TGCTours.Enjoyable round this, I had to scramble well to keep my score near to par, hit some nice birdies so pretty happy with my game. Doyley really struggled with his whole game front 9 but wow what a back 9 from him with some top draw golf, fantastic fight back. .

Will get the tourneys up on PC and PS now you're happy with those setups Craig / Hendomedes , will keep this going with cross platform leaderboard each week. Really great test of sim golf, love it.
