Round 2 - 73
Frustrating round. I'd like to say my putting let me down but on the back 9 I had a birdie on 10 and then made par for every hole after it. I missed one 53 footer by 2 feet. Ultimately, my skill in this game is only going to take me so far. Normally, 3 over par for 2 rounds would have me thrilled. But on a course this easy (look at the scores so far) I should do much better. I'm not even going to come close to making the cut this week and this is the best golf I've shot since making the tour.

I was so close to not playing at all this week because I really wasn’t feeling like playing, but I did it anyway. Should have taken that as a sign. Round 2 was even par but my +5 at the cut currently has me in 85th out of 90. Safe to say I’ll miss the cut and lose my promotion mark from last week. Just never felt comfortable on this course at all for whatever reason.

I missed the cut by only 2 pins. It looks like I have 3 strikes. If I get a 4th, does that mean I go back to Q-School?

5 strikes are required for a demotion. Looks like you’re currently projected to get one more, although that can still change. I believe people who made the cut but don’t finish all four rounds can alter things enough that you could still get bumped up to the 0 strike range. Either way you should be keeping your card for at least another week.

Today was a weird day since almost all of my shots were slow. Usually the majority are fast, so I had to adjust for opposite break in every ball I hit. At +2 after two it was obvious I was in adjustment period and once again being reminded that this game can feel so random. Fortunately the ball was still going mostly straight off the tee and the biggest adjustments only had to be made on approach shots. Also fortunately the shot stayed consistent throughout the round unlike the normal where it bounces around between all shot speeds. Only one more bogey the rest of the way along with an eagle and enough birdies to finish -8.
Since I had a mostly consistent shot going I figured I might as well keep going. Was -4 early and then suddenly those slow approach shots all started going about 75% of full distance and the feeling of randomness returned. Shots that had been landing on the green and getting close to the hole were now coming up well short and I was left scrambling. Burned off most of that early four stroke buffer and finished -1. No doubt, even with no scores posted yet that -9 will make the cut, but I stopped there since the game was back to annoying me.

Round 1 - 71
Was actually 3 under after 3 holes with an eagle on the first par 5. Down the stretch I choked due to nerves but salvaged a birdie on 18 for 1 under. If I make the cut, does that get rid of my demotion strikes or do I still have to finish at a certain level on the leaderboard?

Making the cut automatically removes one demotion mark. If you finish in the top x% you could get one or two more marks removed. If you finish first you’ll still get auto promoted.
At -1 after one I’d say you’re trending towards making the cut but nowhere close to high enough to clear any more than one strike.

Round 2 - 72
That miserable round was all nerves. I missed a golden opportunity with this creampuff course. I'm almost hoping I don't make the cut so I can be done with this game.

Round 3 - 72
My putting really let me down this round.

Round 4 - 74
Yeah, the winds were rough and certainly hurt my score but my putting is what let me down again. Still, this is the best 4 rounds of golf I've played since joining the tour with 3 of the 4 rounds at par or better. At one time, that would have been unthinkable.

A missed cut doesn’t automatically give you a demotion mark. You’re sitting just inside the cut line with your round 1 score. With slightly tougher wind conditions in round 2 one or two strokes back of your round 1 score could be very common amongst players. I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ll be riding right on one side or the other of the cut line when all is said and done. If that’s the case, you’d either drop a demotion mark if you make it and get nothing if you just miss it.

Okay, so it looks like I'm missing the cut. If I do, you say I won't get a demotion mark? How is that possible?

Just like how making the cut doesn’t automatically give you a promotion mark, missing the cut doesn’t automatically give you a demotion mark. Can’t tell you the exact percentage numbers but the top and bottom small percent of finishers get two promotion or demotion marks respectively. Then the next small chunk after them gets one mark either way. The big chunk in the middle gain no marks based on their performance that week and can just lose a mark based upon which side of the cut they finished on and what type of marks they already had.

Well somebody who misses the cut (which I will do) certainly isn't going to lose a demotion mark. The best I can hope for is to stay at the 4 that I currently have. But it's more likely that I'm going to get one more demotion mark and end up back in Q-School, which is fine by me. That way I can concentrate on rangering and forget about the tour.

You’re already locked in with 0 marks. You will live to play another week.
I finished out my week with a score line of -8, -1, E, E. The consistently slow swing I had in round 1 disappeared in the middle of round 2 and stayed inconsistent the rest of the way. Slow, fast, perfect shots were all possible with any given shot, some were mostly straight while others were nowhere close. I had no idea where the ball was going to ever end up and my score reflected that.
