One can not mention Raynor or Macdonald without Charles "Steam Shovel" Banks being at least part of the conversation. Although his career was brief, he designed some of the worlds best golf courses. After Seth Raynor died unexpectedly died in 1926, Charles Banks would complete 25 of Raynor's unfinished projects for Seth's estate. Although his career was brief, he built some of the world's best golf courses. Charles Banks would also sadly pass at the age of 48. Had he lived, he would have been one of if not the most prolific golf course designers ever to touch the game. About the Banks Course Forsgate Banks course is a well preserved representation of a classic Charles Banks design. Steep bunkers, swales and multi-tiered greens can give even the best golfers a troubling hole or two. Charles Banks makes the golfer evaluate risk versus reward for every approach shot. The Par 71 course only measures out at 6,922 yards, while it seems short for the game, you will have to play the greens to call it easy. Great video about the man and the course. Thanks jeffreyb .... I've really taken a liking to this course, Charles Banks brought his A game to this one. A few more with the grasses planted, just needing to place the pins and few other things before publishing.

I was just about to publish, showed it to McTrees and he went all Coore-Crenshaw on me with the What-Ifs. LOL We are undertaking the process to restore the fairways and greens to what we think they were before the shrinkage started using a process he shared with me. Some greens had lost as much as 5+ yards in width and the same for the fairways moving away from the bunker edges. I didn't plan it when I posted them but the 3 pictures above actually show what I'm talking about.

There are worse things than making a better finished product!

The thumbprint on the short is sublime on this course. I did a fictional version of this many, many moons ago. Excellent course.

I did a full fictional version of Forsgate CC a while back (2018), this just reminded me of it. I'm going to get the new game soon and pick up the design again. Plenty of nice new courses out there that needs playing by the looks of it. Good to see people like yourself promoting the golden age architecture of Raynor Macdonald etc. Link to the old fictional Forsgate I did ------------- tgctours.proboards.com/thread/16808/nj-national

Thanks Joe ... I don't know I missed that thread, I call myself searching for mentions of Forsgate on here researching the course here but I guess I did. Where it's at now ... I've finished the green complexes and fairways, passed it to McTrees to look at and set pins and then I'll redo the grasses and improve the Native Grass areas.
