Greetings,
I played the golf tournaments here off and on with 2K21. I played at the Pro level then and I was not good, but I enjoyed the challenge of trying to improve. I've been watching some YouTubers play 2K23 recently and I got the itch to play again, so I picked up 2K23 for the Playstation yesterday. I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to progress in the game and get ready for TGC tournaments? Should I start out with easier settings using the swing meters to gain skill points and progress at a decent pace or should I use TGC Tour difficulty settings and get used to the way I'll need to play here? Do the swing meters help with tempo and muscle memory or hinder the transition to not using them?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd suggest to grind career mode to acquire currency and fittings first. Play 1-round tournaments, use TGCT settings right from the start, but set the opponent difficulty to easiest, so that you can easily beat your rivals and win tournaments. You get additional currency and fittings as sponsor or rivalry rewards, therefore career mode is more efficient (but also more boring) than societies.
If you have additional time left, you may want to consider practicing the Challenge Circuit tournaments.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Kevin

That looks like some great advice. I just finished Q school in the game and I'm working on qualifying for the PGA tour. I'm using the TGCT settings.
Thank you,
Keith

Go straight into tour mate. It's there where you play your rivals and earn fittings, currency and clothing. Unless you like the realism of creating a career but in truth its beating rivals over and over again that will get you your needed fittings etc. Set rivals as easy. It honestly is all about earning rewards.

I also got the game late and I'd add don't upgrade fittings as you go. You're wasting the VC to equip fittings that really don't do that much. Just wait until you get purple or orange fittings to equip, and collect and upgrade the lesser fittings when you get 3.

I would suggest trying to play only at the settings you want to achieve and forget about the grind. Get comfortable with the settings and play your best. Get live coaching when possible

After you have done all of other excellent advice given, you need a place to practice. We have a new society that will allow you to do that. It's called Tourneys GC Prep School(CC) and follows the Challenge Circuit schedule. We use the TGCT Weather report to set up the course conditions you will face in your actual TGC Tour event. If you play on a PC...swing on by!

Other than power, which you can see, do other fittings like timing etc really make that much of a difference? I'm sure they help just curious how much.

It may not look like much visually, but rhythm archetype along with timing and swing plane fully boosted on master swing is almost near pro imo. Shaping is noticeable different as well because you can go to the range and see the difference in loft/deloft yardages when you turn on pro vision.

I chose rhythm and set fittings for timing and swing plane. Have swing plane and timing at minimum 90 and some maxed out and still struggle with tempo and plane. The big problem is with swing plane. A tiny little millimeter off plane at the top of the swing will have the same effect as if you just purposely aimed to push or pull the swing. It really encourages just to purposely play for a push/fast swing rather than trying for perfects. 2k really likes to encourage playing to cheese the game.

Lie Range makes a big difference when you are in heavy rough and sand. I don't notice much timing or swing path difference if I have 90 or 70 ratings on my clubs. You have to hit straight into the white area and perfects or like trentmcneely said your ball is going to sail wide left or right even with perfect timing if that blue line isn't straight its ugly. And like trentmcneely said you have a large advantage if you hit big fasts compared to big slows. You certainly would rather hit it fast than slow IMO.

I did a search and did not find the Prep School course. If not available...
~ Thanks ~

What are the: “TGCT settings”?
PGA 2K23 is my first and just started My Career in the past week. Won each challenge & tournaments
I opt for harder courses and would welcome your lists of 3-5.
Putting is pretty good, but some fine tuning is still needed for reading breaks. Monitoring if I’m missing below or above the hole. Prefer high vs below.
Reading putting breaks. Eyeballing for now, but seems folks use a grid by grid dot count?
~ Thanks ~
