The only way you can have a level playing field in the tours is to have everybody on the tours with the same archetype and fittings. But you cannot take that away or you just might as well scrap the game and start all over. Tweaking is all that we can do now. The archetypes are balanced correctly, I.e. if you have more power, your swing path and timing suffers. If you have Rhythm your power suffers. It’s a good system that reflects actual strengths and weaknesses of real golfers. At the moment, the consumable balls are not balanced. I’m sure they would be welcomed if they were actually balanced and didn’t afffect green speed

TGC Tours will be prohibiting consumable golf balls (pending testing) starting Week 3. Have you finished your testing Doyley and will we all be on default balls from tomorrow?

And then compare that golfer vs the one who is on the same skill level but at 50 level with all of the oranges and purple fittings on their club…..Is the level 8 golfer with their fittings the same with the level 50 golfer with all of their fittings? They can have whatever archetype but the fittings is what makes your golfer improved. I know a few CC A players who had just started playing and are still in the single digit levels and just don’t have the same fittings and are still way behind. They are not even making the qualifying cut line. Their skill is much higher than mine. But my level is 50 and I obviously have more fittings. Fittings no doubt give you a boost. All I am saying if you take away all fittings, golf balls, skill points, archetypes and make it a basic default golfer the skill of the player alone would put them ahead of the lessor skilled player with regards to a level playing field.

This is true but everyone was in the same boat when they got the game, there will be new players in the future who will have the same problem. I’ve been level 50 for 2 weeks but still don’t have all the fittings I need, it’s an ongoing grind for all. The variety of archetypes and fittings allows for better cross platform play; PS - easy tempo, challenging swing path: boost SP through fittings and sculptor archetype Xbox - hard tempo, easy swing path: boost timing with Rhythym archetype and fittings. PC - somewhere between the two The archetypes and fittings allows players to compensate their weaknesses and be competitive, that’s why it’s a great thing that’s well implemented. As I’ve said a few hundred times now, different balls would be a great addition IF they didn’t drastically change the conditions set by tournament organisers. If it was just trade offs between distance, flight and spin then it would be fantastic and realistic.

I thought he meant we start using default balls week 3, but if testing (playing week 3 and likely multiple weeks) shows that to be a unwise choice, then we could see consumables again (but not likely).

I can’t see how it will be a bad choice, as Bob said previously the consumables were a nightmare for the organisers and designers alike. Without those folk, we don’t have this society. You’ll only see consumables come back if the roll attribute is nerfed and if the other attributes are toned down

I imagine the testing element is more based around course conditions that work with the default ball rather than seeing how it’s received
