Have played a number of casual and career mode rounds since the patch, and it seems, I know impossible to test, that the default ball seems to have calmed down a bit on roll.

I discussed this in ball fittings thread, so brief here. A stimpmeter is specifically designed so that the impact of club on ball, as well as the cover softness, and slope are not AT ALL factors. When designing, we set as stimpmeter numbers (4.9-14.6). Maximum putting distance as shown in feet includes club contact, ball construction, & green speed ALL as factors.
It seems this should be obvious, but apparently having a one-to-one correlation for years has made players forget what the game is showing them ? I'll post this as a question for a HB/2K tech in Twitter - I don't need the actual numbers, just some confirmation about how the "100% putt" distance shown is calculated.
I agree that the balls should have a very subtle impact on putting speeds, if at all.
The cover on the ball and compression has no affect on roll under normal striking conditions with a putter, the force of the impact (N) is not great enough to deform the core if the compression is 50-120. That’s a fact. Another fact - two spherical objects of the same weight and size will roll equal distance under the same force and surface condition. The roll attribute is garbage on those balls

I just made an interesting "discovery" I'm pretty sure 100% would agree to this claim: 2K should change the green speed (or reduce the rolling, wich is the same thing) for the default ball to make it more playable. Right? Everyone with 2 eyes and half a brain can see the green speed are faster in 23 than 21. I even have what the green speed should be Very fast: 177 Fast: 149 Moderate: 130 Slow: 114 Very Slow: 101 Everyone would vote yes to that change, I'm pretty sure. Cause these are the real default green speed of this game Where did I got those numbers? Just by playing with the only ball out of the bunch that has a 50 points attribute for rolling. The ball is the grey magnet. So I'm not here to convince anyone about this, but be sure to know what your doing. With the 65 rolling attribute of the default ball, you are modyfing the green speed by accelerating them. Period. You better have the 2K devs team with ya to come here trying to argue about this. No wonder we will need designers to slow down their course, sinxe we gonna accelerates these said greens. 🤦 Isn’t speed just relative, no? Or am I just imagining that video you posted? It's equivalent. If I show you the same round played with DB, Green Aviator, Purple Friction and I'm blocking you all informations, you would never know that conditions were different. All you would see is balls reacting differently. And If I'm showing you 3 rounds with DB with 3 different conditions and blocking you the informations, you would never know conditions were changed. All you would see is 3 balls acting differently

2K could do one hell of troll job with a simple eye trick. Every balls would have the same green speed. 186 on very fast for everyone. On screen only. But when you play with an anti-rolling ball like friction, you would see 186 on the screen, but the engine would act like it's 155. Green speed are now the "same" for everyone. Just 2 balls reacting differently

Have played a number of casual and career mode rounds since the patch, and it seems, I know impossible to test, that the default ball seems to have calmed down a bit on roll. Everybody will be in the same shoes with the default balls. On approaches you have to look at that green and see where the slopes are and use it to your advantage and if you are worried about too much rollout then go max backspin. The ball will still stop and hold the green with default balls. It is not like every approach shots will hit green and roll right off the edge…..The main issue will be not necessarily the balls but how people adjust to the splash shot and then that particular rollout as a lot of pins are near a downslope and you will be severely penalized if you don’t have that splash shot mastered. And then you might have greens with bunkers on both sides and you just go back and forth and card that snowman.

When I see two golf balls in real life that roll different speeds under the same surface conditions and impact force, sure I’ll get it. Till then I’ll just stick with physics as my yard stick.

I really think the issue is the disparity of the VC balls. Now in a hypothetical world, if TGCTours had designed this game just for these tours they would have possibly designed balls with slightly different attributes , and I mean slightly. Just for say like the default would have been like the "uncommon" friction and then 4 more balls to buy, which would be the "rare".
It's the purples and oranges that are the issue really within these tours , and even though all can use them, they just change the courses too much.
The games designers did not make the game for the tours though and sitting out in the world somewhere is a lad who does not know about the tours but is stocking up on his legendary magnet sleeves as he is due to play the tour championship on career mode and John Rahm is his rival.

I get you like these arcade ball attributes and they are still there if you like them, thank god others like us can switch them off for our societies, everyone is happy 👍

I’m pretty sure in 4 weeks time it won’t even be a talking point anymore. TGCT will set great conditions, everyone will have learnt how to splash and will have adjusted to default roll and it will be beautiful.

But I did buy 12 legendary Aviators so may have to use them to win the final two trophy’s on career mode - Quail Hollow and Riviera, those courses are f#%ked

I've been using default virtually every round and my stamp is just under par each round, or just over :-) and that's fine and dandy for me. Bunkers have had me but I now , because partials cripple me , have my own aggressive way to get out. The game because of societies is good, so that does for me. Edit...yeah those 2 courses are certainly a bugger with default but I've had to suffer as not used a VC ball on them. Can now though :-)

Thread synopsis:
-TGCT Admin: We will lock the balls used to default only in our Societies
-My opinion on the consumable balls -Others giving opinions, when the above is what will be the way forward -Opinions on various things, but TGCT decision is what matters Carry on. Such a long thread that changes nothing, but have fun.
