(for me)
I cant use the pitch shot as i have no idea what will happen if i don't get a perfect,
If i hit a slow my ball can be 30yds or more short, same with a fast, very rarely do i get a perfect but the miss top line shots seem way too punitive.
I have watched some you tube videos and other players don't seem to get punished anywhere near the same, is it something i am specifically doing wrong as i cant seem to cure it all, any pitching help would be much appreciated

If you are missing 30yds short or long, then you are getting the dark grey slow/fast, not the light grey one - so your tempo is miles out. Just practice to find the rhythm on pitches - it's slightly different feel than full shots due to the different animation.

Practice will help
One other question Andy - are you hitting 100% on the meter on the pitches? A tiny misjudgement on % on the pitch/flop etc, makes more difference in length on them than it does on full shots (transition will be the stat that helps there)

You can see this while taking practice swings. Watch the feedback circle and pull back the stick. When your controller vibrates (if you have it on), very shortly after it starts vibrating you will se the regions shrink. I try to hit 100%, but if I hit 98 or 99, there is nearly no difference in distance and the penalty for a errant swing is less severe.
