Pretty simple question...not so simple answers.
In fact you should answer IN ORDER from 1-5. HA! Good luck!
1) Ultima Online (BEFORE the EA takeover that destroyed everything)
There is no game like it now nor will there ever be again. If you left the protection of the city guards you were FAIR GAME to anyone and everything in the world. Were you a thief? You could actually STEAL from other player's packs or homes. Were you a murderer? Don't come into town limits or you're dead meat from the guards. Are you a mage? You better have the reagents you need to cast those spells with you...also you better have the spellbook that contains the right spells... good luck with that.
This game was THE best. Tense, fun, lots of RP going on... great times.
2) Chrono Trigger
Something about this game makes me play it every year or two and no matter what I plan I end up playing it about the same way every time. The story is great, the difficulty level is perfect, there are time puzzles to figure out... It's just a blast and I love it!
3) Panescape Torment
This one may not have as much replay value as some others but what it has are an amazingly great story, well written characters...and a freaking talking floating skull as your buddy! Winner winner. Also you die like... ALL the time and it's always funny.
4) Red Dead Redemption
I almost didn't put this one on here but then I remembered how many hours I sunk into this game. DANG that was a lot of fun. I remember just holing up in multiplayer and trying to kill as many "good" guys as I possibly could before getting bored and walking out into a massacre. heh. Taming horses just to get the one I wanted, being suddenly and violently killed by a mountain lion that I NEVER saw coming. Playing poker till 1 in the morning... just good times all around.
5) Fallout 3
I spent so much time playing this game. I played it though a number of times and each time found something different to do. I don't even know how to describe it. All I know is it was stinkin awesome.
Top 5 is hard. Where is Civ 5? Where is Skyrim? Sigh.
I almost want to do a top 5 beta list because a lot of games were BETTER in beta than when they hit release (Star wars Galaxies, Anarchy online, Shadowbane... MANY of them)
