I loved that Royal Porthcawl version also... however I thought it could have done with planting, i.e. grasses and gorse type bushes. It felt very bare. Lot of fun to play though.

It's always hard to comment on a Lidar course because it could be down to the equipment the course was designed on or even the file size or even the amount of time you got to design it. it's the downside of Lidar you get the accuracy of the course if you take your time but file size it produces can cause a lot of problems. It's why really its very rare to see a Lidar course with as much planting as non lidar and fictional designs just due they start with 0k file size and a lidar is anything from 4-10kb before you even start plus as well you got loading issue's with Lidar on old consoles with some courses.

I did notice yesterday in one of the interviews some of the course assets has been increased in size in 2k23 always a worry when transferring a course from a previous game.

Ya I looked at the hole-by-hole guide on the Porthcawl website a few days ago and thought about maybe taking a crack at designing it. It is a really detailed guide. I love the earlier holes with OB so close to the greens and the long par 3 with bunkers in front guarding a runway downslope to the green. Also the green surrounds I thought looked pretty challenging.

Then I just searched for it in game and found this version haha. Very accurate hole wise, but yes needed more planting and they are changing a lot of the fairway bunkers to more of a waste style. I would rather have accurate topography over nice looking grasses any day though.

There is some debate going on in the UK about certain course changes and are they good or bad, but in the end its all down to opinion. A greenkeeper made a good point to me on twitter it takes over 2 days of work maintenance on a Pot bunker where its 2 hours on a waste one and the modern golfer likes to get out a bunker not stuck in one. 

Not seen it yet in any gameplay footage like to see how HB/2k doing the stance of the golfer if the ball is close to the lip/edge of the pot bunkers in game.

Hi Yeltzman, such a fan of your amazing open championship courses in 21, all absolutely masterpieces, and was wondering do you plan to bring them to 23?

Thanks for the kind words not really deserving of them, No plans at the moment to release any of the courses for 2k23,i will get the game once all the fuss settles down and hopefully some of the silly idea's from 2k are changed especially on the greens. If not ill probably give the course files away and other designers might release them ill see how it goes.

Loch Lomond and Royal Portrush have gone through complete changes since the versions released in 2k21,got myself a players official guide from Portrush and had some help from loch Lomond with some recent course changes and a guide in the end 99% of players will not notice but i am not like hb/2k don't touch there official  courses for 4 years and keep releasing them the same.

Hopefully got some more 2k21 Lidar courses to finish before xmas as well.

Hey mate, I still play 21, haven't bought 23 yet. Waiting until more courses are designed and or ported over.

Ya just played a round, tricky course. Pretty small greens and really narrow fairways with water on a lot of holes. Would be a tough go in real life. Especially without scout cam and the obvious advantages the game has to offer.

My favorite holes were 6 and 10. On 10, with it being a video game and having nothing to lose, I went for the green. Tried to fade one in around the trees in front with a 3wood and went for a swim left of the green haha. You'd be nuts to go for that in real golf. Really small landing spot and trouble everywhere. Even if you lay up with your drive, you still need to stuff a wedge close. I wonder what the scoring average was/is for the pros on that hole.

One thing I don't like about the game and not your fault be any means is the way the ball bounces in the rough. At least once a round, I get an unrealistic and lucky bounce back in the fairway or onto the green when there is no way it would happen for real. In my crappy course I'm designing, I set the rough firmness to minimum or close to it, so the ball stays close to were it lands and punishes you for making a bad swing or decision. Just my 2 cents.

100% agree it is set to a low rating but to me it's due to the physics how the game is designed, been saying now since the 3rd game need to get away from this game engine and make the conditions on the course with firmness and wind etc instead of making the game designed around the swing hopefully when i get to play 2k23 it will have improved but what i have seen i doubt it.

Here are the stats for the toughest holes at the event rounds 1 to 4.The 10th the 14th toughest hole at the event just playing a Tad under par.Fast greens at the Belfry when you see some of the pin positions you do start to realise how good Pro golf players are. 



i do wonder if in real life the drive on the 17th is easier than in game looking at the stats i can never seem to get it on the fairway when cutting the corner without the scout cam.

Well at the moment i am having a lot of trouble getting courses into the designer (just freezing when loading up) but no problem playing them under courses not yet published really strange not sure if it's because there lidar files but they played ok on the old xbox in 2k21,but ill keep plugging away and post here if i have any success or release any but the ones i have played a bit like most real courses in 2k23 don't play great at 186 speeds.
