Great post, but I would venture that saying a course is "too easy" is often because the player is using Pro or lower settings with assists that they really should have ditched as their skills improved.
If you're playing unassisted Legend tempo, then I take it back, but otherwise maybe it's not the course that's easy, it's the settings you're playing.
Kinda how the game was designed, albeit self-policing. As you get better, you are able to increase your difficulty & wean off of meters & previews.
Of course, there ARE some truly easy courses out there, but most of your listings were quality stuff that wouldn't think of as pushovers.

@bobaloonola
Ya I play on pro but with the meters and putt previews turned off or I don't use them. And I set the conditions for the courses to play as hard as they can. Also I use house rules like no backspin on drivers/woods/hybrids and don't use the splash shot unless in bunkers etc. It's just the way I prefer to play, I'm not a competitive player, I just play the game to relax.
In hindsight I've realized (and others have explained to me) that comparing the RCRs to user courses isn't fair as the RCRs are built for real golf and the user ones are usually designed for the distances of the drivers and overall mechanics of the iron play and short game, in this game. Some of the courses are designed for CC level, others for a major contest or others just as it's own design to be enjoyable. St. Andrews will always play easier in game than Old Ainsdale, all things being equal. So take my comments with a grain of salt. But thanks for commenting and happy you liked the post.

I do kinda agree with this, on pro I can rip the RCRs apart but on Master where my FIR and GIR average around 40% and 60%, I tend to shoot 67-75 on most RCRs which for me is reflective of good real golf and the courses hold their own! I also normally play with all aids completely off including grids, aiming marker and scout cam which for me makes it feel authentic. It’s hard at first but once you get the hang of it I find it’s the purest way to play and makes the 6700-7200 courses maintain their challenge

Biggest difference to me between fictional courses and real courses here at TGC tours,a lot of the fictional courses to me feel like 18 separate holes instead of feeling like a golf course. There are maybe a dozen designers who produce fictional courses which feel could be real courses and they are the ones i enjoy. The ones which go for the eye candy and looks and 200 meter bridges are the ones i tend not to play or enjoy. Again everybody is different and its why the brand has got it's appeal. I have always enjoyed a poor RCR than a fantastic looking fictional course.

paddyjk19 Ya I play with scout cam and green grids turned off in real life, on this game I prefer to play with as much information as possible lol. If you are very familiar with the course, it might be fun to play without aids though. I'd just rather play a wide variety then play the same ones over and over. I take the shortest driver on any course under 7000 yards so I don't overpower them and hit driver wedge on every hole. yeltzman I'd agree with a lot of that. With the fictional courses what impresses me the most is the environment the designer has created and the hole designs, whether they are inspired by real life holes or original designs that are built to challenge the mechanics of this game. When I play an RCR I try to visualize what the experience would be like in real life with the views, atmosphere, historical significance, shot values etc. Ya some of the routings on the designer courses are a little crazy with bridges and the routes you would have to take to get to the next shot or hole. But I think sometimes that is the point the designer is trying to make and wants to show off their technical prowess in building them. I tend to stick to about 20 or so designers that I have found over the years as well. Most of the top contest guys really or anyone who posts a new course here or on the TGC tours database that I think I might like. I like a combination of good looks and good hole designs to really make it a classic myself. With a couple exceptions on the list, I think the courses look fairy realistic and would be a believable real-life setting.

Even trying to be 'realistic' in my designs, getting the flow that makes a course NOT just be a series of holes took quite a few tries. Even now, I 'lose the plot' for a few holes.

When you look round the world there are not to many "real" golf course designers so anybody who designs a fictional course and put's it out to the world upmost respect from me one of the trickiest jobs in the world to do correct.

I published a 10% finished version of Huntercombe just so I could play it before planting it fully in 2k23, there’s two greens there (3rd and 4th) that would be laughed at on here and certainly wouldn’t get approved yet they’re iconic complexes! If you want to see what I mean try searching “hgc” it was published on PC so might not be on console yet

Being an Old Gen Console player i am a little worried about how courses are going to play on the old gen consoles in 2k23,Tough task to keep next gen pc and console players happy, but when the price of the game is the same for old gen gamers really want the same game.Just Hope its been tested better this time on consoles than previous versions PC testing not enough. PS just designed i reckon the toughest par 3 in England the 17th at Ganton.

One of the things that impresses me the most about real life architects is how they can decide on a routing. I mean some of the pieces of land are easier than others. But sometimes they get a plot that is really cluttered in trees and by just walking the land or flying over it in a helicopter, they think, I can knock down those trees and the land is situated in a way a good golf hole would play. paddyjk19 I played your Brookline version and thought it was really well done. Some cool holes and the greens were quite small and hard to hit and hold, a good challenge. I hit up against the grandstands on one hole and got a glitchy result where my ball somehow went backwards lol. So I had to flop over the grandstands and into a bunker just to make a double haha. yeltzman Is your Ganton version released? I've tried searching for this course before and couldn't seem to find it. It's ranked #8 in England according to this... www.top100golfcourses.com/golf-course/gantonLooks like a combination of Heathland and Links, which really intrigues me.

Maybe in a couple of more weeks Lidar 2021 data came out well for this one, but in the last year or so they have started removing a lot of the gorse from the course and putting in waste area's. Google earth has a photo from june 2022 so i have a latest pic just checking with the data and placing waste area's etc.Ganton Known for Deep Bunkers 7-8ft and Fast greens both good for 2k21.Being a private club not the greatest of course blogs out there to follow 18th with new waste area in game picture OOB road right in the middle of the fairway, Not great for computer golf.

Thought with the new game around the corner & 2k21 coming to an end I would compile a list of my top 10 courses of PGA2k21. Playing no green grids, no scout cam (only use scout cam for putting), legends/masters clubs, these are the courses I have enjoyed the most, offer the ideal challenge and played too many times. I hope it's OK to post here, didn't feel the need to start a new thread. Cheers
- Royal Portrush 148th Open
With green speed switched to fast (published mid 130's), very high winds in overcast afternoon or dusk conditions, this course never fails to disappoint. I have had countless rounds where my final putt on Hole 18 is to save or break par, rounds of 8 under and 8 over and everything in between. Love pin set 2 most. Just a gem of a course & top of the bucket list.
- Purgatory Golf Club (L)
Really didn't know anything about this course before playing in the game but glad I found it here because it's been a real beauty and a fun challenge. Again, love setting to overcast conditions with a lower lighting, looks great on my TV and monitor. Really well planted, course has a great vibe with very interesting par 3's and 5's. Great variety of par 4's, beautiful greensites with interesting putts to be found all around.
- Fishers Island Club
I remember playing this in TGC19 and 2k21 just took it to another level for myself. Take the driver out of the bag, add in an extra wood or hybrid and crank the winds to very high. Some real fun and tricky approach shots with the scout cam off and longer clubs into the spectacular greens. An extremely well done RCR of a special place.
- Playa Saona
This course has a great atmosphere, lovely subtle rolling greens along with great hole designs. Really feels like an RCR to me and have appreciated more and more with each playthrough. Small elevation changes, filled with a lot of strategy. May not be the toughest course but in very high winds with no grids can be a very enjoybale par-fest challenge, with so many putts just missing either side of the hole. Long live Fazio.
- Safe Haven - Shores
Much like Playa Saona & others on the list, I forget I'm not playing a RCR at Safe Haven. A dramatic ride that is breathtakingly good golf from start to finish. Some great little stretches of holes on both the front & back and some pretty demanding shots that require thought. A bloody masterpiece really.
- Merced Municipal GC
Right off the bat the look of this one still blows me away, the overcast lighting, the planting and contrast with the choice of textures just work together. The hole designs are just so consistent and make it feel like a real, living and breathing place. The way the planting interacts and becomes part of hole design & strategy with some of the dogleg and weaving longer holes is so well done, a theme that repeats itself the perfect amount of times throughout the round. The tree on the inside of the elbow of hole 9 is a contender for best planted tree of 2k21.
- Marlowe Heath
I think this course just has to exist irl, somewhere. The greensites are all so simply stunning with great character and close to the best to putt on in game without the grids for a fictional course. In very high winds requires accuracy off the tee. The 387 yard par 4 13th hole I could play on repeat. Brilliant.
- Fairhaven Golf Club
Would be top of my list if Portrush wasn't in game, have played my most rounds here. Just love the routing, hole designs, planting & greensites. Always completely switch off and get engrossed in the game at Fairhaven, very high winds, overcast, dusk. Par 3's are all superb & challenging. Interesting 53543 start leads to mixed scoring results out of the gate. Subtle breaking greens, not overly difficult, just love this course.
- South Yarra GC
Just a remarkable sandbelt course that reveals more & more of itself the longer you spend with it. Playable from all 5 tee sets, this is the most unique & precisely put together course I can recall from 2k21. The stretch of holes either side of the turn are so good and varied. The par 4 10th hole is a real beauty that plays just as good at 360 yards from the green tees as the others, if not better. Thought the lighting and texture choice was perfect and the wild planting is something else. The 9th Hole has to be the best par 4-and-a-half hole in game alongside the 10th at Royal Liverpool Open 2023. Great views across the whole course & the pre-shot animations make for great screen grabs.
- Royal St.George's 2021(L)
Always such an engrossing and challenging round. No two rounds ever feel the same here. Gameplay has to be real solid here to score well with the greens very nuanced and difficult to read for myself. Such bold and memorable holes, requiring precise shot making. Think with only the two par 5's at a par 70 is just the perfect balance and test.
Many courses just missed the list and were very hard to leave out. Just wanted to say thank-you to the members of the community for all your hard, concentrated work and the hours of enjoyment you've provided. Cheers P.s great post golfklubber

Thanks for the kind words on Fairhaven Lovely little golf course i always give it a play when Regional Open Qualifying is on there. Just need to remove the OOB from the 17th which is a little to close to the right of 16th.

yeltzman Good to hear about Ganton, I am very much looking forward to playing it when it comes out. I played your version of St Andrew$ with the 150th Open pins the other day and it gave me a whole new perspective on the course. Some nasty pin locations. And you did a really good job with the surrounding buildings and overall atmosphere. parttimejaffa Hey thanks for posting here, I don't mind at all, I love hearing people's detailed opinions on the courses in this game! I agree with Portrush and St. George's, they are very classic links courses and always fun to play. I've been picking away at b101 youtube series "From perception to reality" and it has given me more appreciation for South Yarra. The amount of thought and work he put into that course is impressive. It's grown on me more and more over multiple plays and I agree, the different tees add a subtle change to the angles and give the course good replay value. Between this, Frankston Heath, The Sandbelt and Oakleigh Dunes, it's tough to decide which is the best fictional sandbelt for me. Fisher's Island, environment nailed, but I'm just not a huge fan of the course and for some reason, it just rubs me the wrong way or I don't get its lofty reputation. But hey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you and the real-life rankings have it ranked very high so to each their own. The other ones on your list, I haven't played, I'll have to check them out. Cheers.

You realise when you play pin set 4 how good a shot this was from Cam smith on the 10th which started the birdie train amazing pitch/chip to the pin position.Day 4 (sunday).Of course you can never re-create how it really plays in game but i feel where the pins were it gives you a example how tough some of them were at times having 2020-21 Lidar helps as well just a shame the course file is Large and limited what you can add but it loads quick and plays great on my old xbox all what matters to me.
