Week 31 on Elite brings the grind to Royal St. Gerald's GC. St. Gerald, of course, being the patron saint of digital golf course designers everywhere. Blessed be the greenskeepers. This links course was a part of the rookie design contest, but axelvonfersen is no rookie when it comes to getting courses on tour, so there is plenty of polish to this piece of land. Should definitely bring the Elite tour back to its Euro roots with this course. Good luck and have fun chasing those promo marks everyone! From the designer: Welcome to Royal St. Gerald's GC! My entry into the 2021/22 Rookie Design Contest. A classic links course nestling its way amongst grassy dunes with wavy uneven fairways. It's easily the most fun I've had creating a course to date and I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I did creating it. The course draws inspirations from a number of real life courses such as Royal St. George's, Silloth on Solway, Royal Portrush and many others. There are a few riffs on real life holes as well, with inspiration coming from places such as Prestwick and of course the Old Course.

So glad I'm done with that opening tee shot, that thing is terrifying! -18 at the cut has me right around the cut line I suspect. Played better rounds 3 and 4 to end up -41 so fingers crossed for that cut.

I've only played 4 or 5 holes so far a few hours ago and sitting at even or -1. I decided not to continue after the footy finished as I was feeling too tired to concentrate properly. I did nail that opening tee shot right in the middle of that landing strip at least, but then had a bogey on 2 after some weird red fast popped up on my second shot, no idea what the hell happened there. I'll finish off round 1 tomorrow.

Thoroughly enjoyed this course, kudos to the designer axelvonfersen As with LFC yesterday the 'Never Give Up' mentality kept me in good stead today, two bogey free rds, but still going to be cutline watching I feel. -8 & -11 to be -19 thru 36H's. Good Luck all, play well

So glad I'm done with that opening tee shot, that thing is terrifying! The 1st and 18th tee shots are two of the more demanding on the course. Love that. You can always lay up on either one, but we don't tend to do that around here. Should be lots of make or break shots on those two holes all week. That fence surrounding the course can be a live saver for sure though.

Pretty frustrating -8 first round. I liked the course but just too many putts didn't have enough power, and I feel like something has changed there because I keep feeling like I have to hit the ball harder lately than in the beginning of the game and it's difficult to make myself do it. I've also noticed on longer putts that the putter head moves itself forward before I start the downswing and loses power. I had another random red fast out of nowhere that robbed me of a better chance at eagle than I ended up with (and missed it). The wind didn't seem to have its usual effect on some shots either, and seemed to result in excessive sideways movement on other occasions.
At this point looking at the leaderboard I'll just be happy to avoid any more bloody demo marks because unless I shoot some ridiculous number in the next round I ain't seeing the weekend.

Played much better second round, had one of those rounds where even the bad shots were good, one hole I putted off the green then chipped in for par, and landed a lot of approaches within 6 feet for easy birdie putts on the way to shooting a 60 to get inside the cut at -21. Reasonably confident of staying inside it.

Third time is still not the charm for me. Think I'm developing an allergy for making cuts all of a sudden, and developing a sudden nasty habit of pulling shots right and needing to really focus on fixing that and then I might go too much left by accident. Started -12 in the first round, this involves 2 bogeys on the card. One on the second hole off a 3 putt, other by finding water and barely walking away with just one loss of a stroke. An eagle on 9 basically countered those, and then stole an eagle on 16 by smacking a 64 yard pitch shot in from the heavy stuff. Then chipped in on the next hole and really finding momentum. Then round 2 had the yips, terrible swing planes and near misses and could have easily found a much better score if the inches were on my side. Finished round 2 at a low -6 that could have realistically been double that, hitting -18 at the cut. But you know, shoulda, woulda, coulda. If that rule applied, I'd be a Platinum player. Trying again next week, still no indication of dropping back down nor going up. St. Gerald's blessings weren't applied to me, but let's go one week at a time. Cheers, and good luck.

62 and 64 for the final two rounds to finish -41 for the week. Left too many out there, primarily from over reading putts since they don't seem to break as much as they used to, or should, and I haven't got used to that yet. Having said that I'm not sure I'll ever get used to the stupidity that is faster greens breaking less over the length of a putt than slower greens. It's completely at odds with what happens in reality.
While it was nice to make the cut again after a couple of crappy weeks, I'm not particularly happy with my performance.
