I've been working on my entry pretty much since the contest was announced. I'm now running a bit short on time, hopefully I can get it finished in time. A lot of polishing up is needed, especially planting and the surroundings... might be a few late nights I published a beta version of the holes I'm happiest with (10 of them) a couple of days ago. Under the name 'PJY WIP 002 USOpen' . I have made some changes since but I've not changed these much and it is a pretty good snapshot of the course in general. I would really love some feedback to see if I can up the level a little. "The links at University Place", as I expect the final course to be named, is set on the site of the actual course for this years US Open, Chambers Bay... ish. I started by building a plot with a railroad coastline sloping down to the coast and then built the course up from the coast in. I'm aiming for an american links style course a bit like Chambers bay, I have taken elements from the course design but non of the holes are replicas as such. I'm not a fan of the Links theme, I think Countryside minus the trees is the closest we have right now. Obviously as this is for the US Open contest it is long, tight and should play tough. I also have made sure each hole can be birdied with an accurate approach, but an inaccurate one should result in a long difficult 2 putt if you do still find the surface. Now for a few screenshots, please let me know what you think and don't hold back, I won't be offended

I'm digging the look. I'll give it a go. I'll say that a few of the "pointier" mounds in the last shot look a little out of place. Maybe a little more of a dune shape might work better. Either way I'm excited to play!

Cheers reebdoog. Yeah I almost didn't post that pic for that exact reason, I went extreme on the mounds initially and smooth as I carve out the holes. Those will most definitely be smoothed out. I also have work to do on making the clubhouse look nice etc Meant to say, the beta includes holes 1-7 and then 15, 17,18. I started with the beginning and end of the course and worked towards the middle

How did you create those train tracks? Maybe HB can give us a train now. They already have a big ass oil tanker, why not.

However if they made a tool to just put down a railroad after the time that took me (on PS4 as well) then I wouldn't be happy It's actually a long bridge (or two) under the ground so just the top shows. Prior to the update that gave us the small wooden step I had lowered the ground below the tracks to just under the water level and placed the flattest rock about a million times rotating constantly to look like a stony bed. Then the step arrived and I tried it out it looked so much better I re did it with three steps next to each other making up 1 sleeper. They are about every 3 yards although it does vary a little and so with 3 per sleeper that is 1 per yard of track. Measured the length just now and it's around 1500 long... Times 2 for the second lane and it's probably about 3000 steps... and I had to place each one carefully. Makes me question my sanity! The track was supposed to set the scene but I'm hoping the course itself is to some peoples likes

Let me tell you first, I'm no designer. I am learning some techniques now, but in no way I can tell people how they should improve their courses. Next thing is, I don't usually complain about 'fairness'. Especially not when everyone plays the same course. Don't we all love a challenge? On to the course. Just played WIP 002 and I like it! Those traintracks... wow... during my play you posted in this thread how you did it... and I agree... there is no reason to doubt your sanity anymore Nice job on the changes in heights. I really like the view from the tees. Fairways are small, but hey... I'm ok with that. On hole 5 I played along the next fairway on the right. I'm not sure it gives me an advantage (played this course once), but it might be worth to take a look into that. About hole 6: I went for it! Reachable par 4... nice view.. can pay off but can also bite you in the **** Please finish this soon. I'll pay a nice €€€ for a greenfee to play this IRL. Great job, pyates.

Cheers roosroan, really glad you are enjoying it. You were spot on with 5, it was a major advantage taking that route. I've fixed that now . That fairway changed recently which has put that route in play. Thanks for spotting it, as the designer it may have passed me by , I know the holes too well. Cheers

Welcome to steal my train tracks, but be prepared for your mind to go numb (or do a shorter section) Would love to know what you or others thought of the course

Echoing the train tracks praise and glad you chose Countryside-trees rather than links, looks much better and more playable that way.
