You're sort of describing what is called the double water pane trick. This video describes it, others have mentioned it here on the forums

Cheers for this but it didn't work. I noticed that he had already placed a water body and it was a second water body that done the trick. My water doesn't use a water body for the water to be there, it is the natural water level in the game. In this scenario it seems not to work. Still it will come in handy if I place water using water body in the future.

Still it will come in handy if I place water using water body in the future. It doesn't work with the natural water. Try placing a water body right above it first, then another above that. It's the only way to do it.

Hey, the water boundary thing has been covered, but just want to say: be really careful if you're trying to design a hole where a ball hit onto the green ends up in the water. It's a very rare thing in golf, and unless it's handled extremely well I personally don't think it's a good idea in general. It's one thing for a shot that misses the green to hit a side slope and bounce down into the water. But a ball hit onto the green then rolling down into water? Tough to pull off.
