fresh off some rookie contest foibles and I'm cooking again! after agonizing over every detail on my rookie course Runamok, I'm trying to make decisions quickly and follow instincts here. this routing and concept are actually something I sketched out as a kid. I think the 2009 US Open was on so it has some big Bethpage energy. hoping to work away from anything too direct, but I will pursue something like the bethpage bunkering and fescue style. want to keep with my 12 year old self's vision! early early photos. I'll keep up with this thread. thoughts and ideas are appreciated.

came across this image on twitter (credit Ryan Farrow @farrowgolf) and I'm thinking it might be interesting for my course to be more like a bethpage that was "untouched". wider fairways, more room around the greens, rougher bunker edges. a bit more forgiving and playable. any other good courses to reference in this regard?

That's a really cool map, I'm not sure I've seen an image like that before. I don't actually know much about Bethpage apart from watching the odd tournament there, so I can't help much in that regard. But I do think 12 year olds have the best imagination. What you've got so far looks good, with the pods of bunkers. Definately interested in following your progress.

Enjoyed your Runamok very much. Also played the putting course the other night which was a lot of fun. Your Bethpage inspired course is also looking the goods. My only comment is that some of the bunkers above appear to be a little flat without much depth. Perhaps it's just the way the omages present or maybe thsi is intentional. Just an observation. I think this course would do well with much variety in terms of the shaping and sculpting. Would add an additional layer to the aesthetic of the course. Much like some of the Californian Mackenzie courses in-game. Image 1 & 4 are especially good with the burnt rough around the leading edge. You should add some fescue in these areas perhaps ?? Will continue to follow your good work! Kepp it up!

Are you still planning on having the burnt fringe of grasses around the back of the bunkers ?? I love the look. provides great contrast in colouring and adds real character.

blueblood1995 I will keep this in mind - it got lost. I altered the rough texture to look a little more natural with the heavy rough, but haven’t been super disciplined on roughing out all the bunker edges just yet. I might look for a texture with slightly more contrast. I think the effect still comes through but not as brash. You can get a sense of it in image 3, barely. I do want to go through and also plant the edges with grass, giving a “furry” edge once you’re on the green, like you see in the last image.

Not necessarily "something Bethpage" any longer, but it's still got some Long Island in it. Updated look at things. Beta (or the whole thing) coming soon-ish.
Some of this aerial view reminds me of another Long Island course with connected fairways. Three Ponds Farm. In case you don't know, It's a golf course on a private estate. I think I saw it on the old game but haven't seen it on the new game yet.

just published a beta! playable as "baccabeta." Feel like it's close to publishing. Feedback appreciated! for my lefties out there: I designed this course as a right handed player, favoring a draw, but realized it sets up infinitely better for a lefty, visually and in terms of playability. especially if you play a fade. switched my handedness for a few rounds and I like the course way better from the other side of the ball. published at fastest green speed... which is a lot to handle. I'll publish at Fast.
