Welcome all back to another season of Design League. patlouvar, mvpmanatee, myself and others will be hosting, judging and providing playthrough feedback in a series of short contest. For the most part we will follow a similar format as before. If you want to give a heads up on your participation interest that would be great, but otherwise just tag one of us in your contest submissions. For contest 1 - we are simply looking for your best plot creation and using that plot to create a 6-hole course. Judging will be heavily weighted on how well you created the plot and how interesting it is. Landwatch is a great resource for seeing potential properties to use as inspiration. For this first contest submissions should be before April 1st. Future contest may have shorter or longer deadlines. As usual this is meant to be fun and casual and hopefully helpful to others. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks all, enjoy!

freternick, so is "Your Best Plot Creation" a plot that we've already made, or building a course with as good of a plot that we can?

I've never done any plot creation before, just built from scratch on a flat featureless plain. I'll have a crack at this, a good way to motivate me to learn a bit about about plot creation.

freternick, so is "Your Best Plot Creation" a plot that we've already made, or building a course with as good of a plot that we can? Start a brand new course file and focus on building an interesting plot of land. Think if you were trying to give another designer the best plot they could imagine to want to route and build their own course. Then build your own 6 holes on that plot. Planting, off course, strategy, etc… will be looked at but not the main focus of the judging. The plot is the main thing getting judged.

Also, if you have never watched the video on plot randomization, check the tips and tricks section. May help you if you want to avoid auto flattening.

Well... I have been out of the loop for awhile, but I'll jump back into the fray! Anything I need to do to 'register'?

One month, 6 holes, surely even I can manage to achieve this.

Coolio. Might take a crack at this one, as making plots is up there as my favorite part of course creation.

As a rookie i have a few questions... Do the 6 holes have to be fully planted in all regards? All aspects of sculpting done? Does the whole course need to be routed or should it purposely be left? Does the remainder of the plot need to be sculpted or left in the raw state? Do you want lakes, feeder streams, waterfalls, all in place throughout the plot? Is this published as a beta so it can be completed later?
Sorry for all the rookie questions......have not been in design league yet.
Thanks,
Troy

Thanks, Troy As for all of these questions - we are asking to fully build a course, but the course is just 6 holes. For individual questions: - yes fully planted - yes fully sculpted - please don't create 18 holes. you don't even need to "leave space" - please don't leave it in "raw state" - add lakes, streams, whatever you want - doesn't have to be published as a beta This contest is not asking you to create a "beta", it's asking you to create a 6 hole golf course. The judging/feedback is going to put a premium on your plot, but that is more of a prompt to the contest than saying that it's the only thing we are judging on. we will still be judging planting/sculpting/strategy as always.

I've got a lot of spare time on my hands at the moment so I have done this in just under 20 hours. Hope it fits the criteria DL3.2 Guinivere Golf School 6 Holes on Boreal Theme 2219 yards from the blues
