Tell me about it! I've got 15 unpublished courses in various stages of design.

Hey Chris, not sure if you know about this tool www.provisualizer.com/I’ve had a quick play to check out elevations etc, but haven’t done too much with it. If LiDAR is available I’d be using that as my first draft. Ok that's a great site, thank you! I've gotten started using google earth, which is OKish. This is all the same raw data but it is a million times better fit for this purpose.

That's awesome too, all set! I've also got some print outs of maps overalid with grids of various sizes. And I've created a grid of 100m x 100m squares right across my plot with the measuring tool. So i think my plan of attack is to plot out and lay surfaces for tee boxes, bunkers, greens and fairways in 2D in that order. Then start with elevations. Then sculpt and plant, which I tend to like to do simultaneously.
It would be so good if the measuring tool would also give you a compass heading, in adition to just the distance.
I've also been promised photos from every tee box, landing area and green from various angles. Should all be coming some time after the course reopens after the floods.

The other course I was working on isn't working out, so I thought I'd revisit this. Might have it done by Christmas. Have half a dozen holes measured up and mapped out and have started with some planting too. Current plot: Real 4th hole: My 4th hole:

Looking great! It's about as good as you can get given the trees in the designer. What are you doing for ghost gums?

A couple of the birch trees with the white wood make a reasonable gum when up-sized. I've used them a bit on Evelyn and Warrigal Reserve

Got a bit bored with measuring last night so thought I'd do some planting. Hole 6 is a medium par 3 par 3 through a narrow chute over the Nerang River which opens up to an unprotected and slightly raised green. This was a good hole to work out some near field planting, as well as working a few more different tree types into the rotation. Hole is nowhere near finished, very little sculpting and and almost no planting done apart from what you can see in this specific shot. Hole 6: My photo:

This is hole 8, which is probably the course's signature hole. 176 yards, 40 foot downhill and to a tiny green surrounded by bunkers and a creek wrapping around three sides set back from the bunkers. It's an absolutely gorgeous hole in real life. The course has 6 holes that play into and through the forest reserve behind the property, holes 7 and 8 are down in a corner where the forest meets the Nerang River where you get these ghost gums. Most of the other forest holes are higher and through drier terrain. Lots of planting on this hole obviously, and I'm pretty happy with how it has turned out so far. Apart from the 6 holes through the forest there are 5 holes along the Nerang River floodplain, and 7 holes over some hilly land in the middle of the property. The forest and the river (with heavily vegetated banks) make up the boundary of most of the course, and the middle of the course is much more open. My plan from here is to get the rest of the course all measured out and surfaces down, with rough sculpting. Then I'll start working on holes one at a time from the outside in.

It’s coming along nicely. I’m back in Brissy the first week of November but unfortunately won’t have time to play otherwise I’d be taking on my mates invitation of a game at Grand.
