Putting from the fringe

ok cool I see, but looking at this comment:

If you are on the fringe I assume 119 is the fairway number, but how would you know the green is 171 if you are not on it yet?

From previous holes where you actually putted from the green.

Or play a local round with the same green speed setting before.


Can't you check it on tee boxes too if you pull the putter out there? Or was that just a thing that some designers did when putting them in? I remember that being a thing on the last game, but I haven't really bothered with that since coming back to this one. Generally I am coming off a local round or practiced all the settings prior to the event so I know what's available.

I mean you can also guesstimate if it's the 1st hole. You are told the speed before the round so if it says fast, it's like 155+ so guess it's almost 170 and you should be fine and hopefully not blow passed the hole. If it's slow, guess it's 140ish and you'll be fine....etc.

wow all makes sense to me now, thanks for all the explaining :-) Sounds quite technical, in summary fringe putting seems more of a look and feel thing. Those fringe shots inside 12 feet seem way too small for a chip... shame fringe putting is so tricky.

Also have you guys noticed the game is buggy with the fringe shots regarding elevation.  It only displays in the marker and not the HUD.  So for TGC this information is completely missing.
