Showing off my WIP course La Frontera. A course situated on a high plateau overlooking the US-Mexico border in southern New Mexico. As its at elevation the course sits in a dense pine forest with holes cut through native bushes and tall pines. A river can be seen from the majority of holes as well as a lake. Right now working on finishing the footprints of some holes on the back nine and deciding whether to add planting to the high canyon walls. Also deciding on what exactly the backdrop will look like for holes 2 and 14 which will stare over the cliffs down to the "Frontera" area. Thinkiing about a small western style one-avenue town.
1st green with the Agave river fronting the approach. A river you see several times in your round. In the distance you see the par 3 5th hole.
The par 5 2nd hole, a hole which is easier if you can land your tee shot at the top of the ridge to draw a flat lie. Balls hit to the right risk the chance of falling down 15 feet to a collection area.
imgur.com/FuauwFEThe split fairway par 4 4th hole, go left for the wider fairway but shallower approach to the uphill green, go right for the narrower and higher fairway but straight-on approach.
The par 5 6th, the longest hole on the course and the hole so far that has the most stunning look off the tee. Your second crossing of the Agave River on the round.
Probably the most fun feature on the course, the bridge that connects the clubhouse with the Saloon Restaurant. Its the backdrop to the 9th green.
This photo shows how the course intertwines on the first 2/3 of the round. Clockwise from top center. 2nd hole, 4th hole, 1st green, 11th green, 7th green, 5th hole. Unfinished on the far top right is where holes 13-18 are set.
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. Would love the feedback.
Thank you!
