Dear TST enthusiasts,
2022 is around the corner and after last week's visit to Europe, we now arrive in the USA. This week, for our New Year Open, my gift to you is a tournament at the beautiful Pinehurst No. 2. Quite a different challenge than last week. The course dries out as the week progresses and to create some additional excitement in round 4, we play shorter tees the last day.
Have fun and good luck, Frans

Not very good this week. A bit rusty after the Christmas break coupled with some sloppy play saw my worst round in a long while of +5. 2nd round was a bit gentler and pulled 3 shots back but ruined a clean card with poor putting on the 17th.
Must admit though when you read that so many of the top players are being drawn to this format, and why wouldn't they be as it's probably the most fun you can have on TGCT nowadays, and only 9 CC players managed to make a cut of 80, I realise at my skill level I'm purely here just to make up the numbers, BUT, not an issue while it remains enjoyable. And even after getting to the cut over par, I can't say I didn't enjoy my rounds. So it's onward as that great philosopher says!!

The Good: Probably the best course we've had on here for my money, and we've had crackers all year. A real example of how a course doesn't have to be gimmicky to be really tough (at least on True Sim). Pins positions, angles into flags and those slopes around the edges of the greens made this a real test and probably the most fun I've had on the game lately playing this week.
The Bad: I played like sh%$ haha
Good luck folks! Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Level and -4. Now THAT is how you end the suspense of whether you make the cut or not.
Onward!

This is not an easy course - it might be closer than you (now) think… I hope I am there Frans but most of TST is just better than me. Finished up -12 for the 4 rounds including a clean -6 in round 4, really proud of that one even if it is like wetting yourself in a dark suit (warm feeling, nobody sees it). Another great course and setup Frans, HUZZAH! Onward!

I got to -26. Other than not getting up/down 3x which resulted in bogeys, not much went wrong. Have a great 2022 everyone!

Somewhat disappointed with my first two rounds: -15 Played solid but two very stupid putting disasters resulted in two bogeys that should have been easy pars. I do love this course though - this actually feels/looks like golf.

Got it to -25 after being -12 at the cut. Definitely left lots out there, but can't complain with a solid week for me on True Sim. Also loved the look of the course this week. For some reason I was able to see the greens so well which was very encouraging, because that's usually where I struggle most!

Round 3: -9 Round 4: -9 Total: -33
Three three-putts mean I feel it should have been a bit better but I’ll take what will likely be my best finish of the year so far.

Ooooh boy. Have played Pinehurst before, even with grids on I knew going into it this was going to be either painful in a fun way or everything's going to fall apart fast. Will admit I'm not particularly big on par 70 courses, but that is a personal preference of mine and nothing against the selection since this is a solid choice, once again!
-3, -6 = -9. Didn't play particularly bad, sure had some moments out there I wish I could take back but managed to hold off score adjusting mistakes back really well. Took me until 5th hole to score anything, one and only bogey so far on the 8th by default power putt having a tad bit too much juice on the putt and found myself off the green by the end. Couple of chip ins in round 1, finished with one on the 18th. I'd say that round was a masterclass in efficient inefficiency: not doing much but not losing strokes either.
Round 2 was a lot better. Early on I think the strategy could have been to aim at the short side of the green and hope for a chip, but my putting got progressively better. Even managed a 26 foot double breaker! Yeah, bogey free round and had some painful unluckiness towards the end of the round. Think I had a putt land 4 or 5 inches short on the 18th, and then a couple of chips and approaches land inches short too before that. So, I think with maybe a combined 2 or 3 feet more at the end, I could be 3 strokes up? Those will happen though, hopefully not ending up costing this week. I imagine it's going to be close, but with how tough the course is I don't really know. I will not say anything in case I jinx myself, I'll just let Thursday come along and see where it takes me.

To paraphrase a certain caddy you either hear or don't hear, regarding my prediction about being close to being cut: "I was way off!"
Kind of wish I did get cut and was able to give my spot to someone else, did a whole lot of nothing in round 3. Felt like the whole round was a constant kick to the fragile parts, what with shots being just short enough to roll away from the green, just a bit too long to roll away from the green, chips missing by a bit, putts missing by a bit. Perfect summary as to why I'm not one of the best players around and those topping the board are! +1, 2 bogeys, 1 birdie. Can't do much else but laugh at how weak that is.
Round 4 was at least better. Some putts fell down, still kept missing opportunities by a little. -5 to finish it off, not much to write home about but at least I was there. Don't think I could have been able to say that even once last season when a tougher course came along. Maybe I spent all my mojo on the CC rounds that I wrapped up today, I really shouldn't play both on the same day. Looking at my putting stats this ironically might be the strongest week for me, I don't know how that's possible but my medium and long percentages seem to be better than they usually are, and no 3 putts either! Maybe before seen, maybe never before seen from this guy! I don't even know, because I don't care!
So a -13 to wrap up the week and the year. Unlucky for some, hopefully not an omen for things to come. Happy New Year!

It always looks nice... But it looks even better when you see your name T-3 in the full leaderboard. I seriously never imagined when I started this event that I would finish tied with Steve Sloan, one of the best players to play this game but I throughouly enjoyed the course and conditions our scheduler gave the players this week. It felt like the old days of Master scores-wise yet with the fairness of Pro tempo difficulty. I hope to see a few more of those events during the season. As for my performance, the two bogeys in R4 (Including my weekly 3-putt) cost me solo third yet I have hit some great putts and also a second ace in two weeks (Hole 17 of R2). Seeing the scores this week, I don't expect to repeat that performance but I will do my utmost best.
