Hello folks, Jim Nance here welcoming you back to Cyder Cup action on Day 2. Match 1 features Monarchs Daniel Oram
xxdannyxxo and Paul Davies
thetaffman face off against Strikers CF Gibson
CGib2 and Ernie Copage
cappy1. I’m pleased to welcome back in Shaggy and Scooby Doo. So you guys decided to stick around?
Shaggy: Like totally Jim. This is such a great place we just like couldn’t leave man
Scooby: Rat Raggy raid
Shaggy: We think Velma should be like out on the course too Jimbo. But I have a question.
Jim: Don’t you think we should get to the action?
Shaggy: But Jim, this like totally relates to the match man. Like what do the golfers eat while out on the course?
Jim: Well Shaggy, I don’t really know. I would imagine any number of things. Let’s get to the action. The golfers are already on hole 3. The par 5 looks to have what will be our first scoring opportunity of the match as Paul lines up an eagle putt with everyone else looking at birdie at best. And the putt drops giving the Monarchs a 1 up advantage. Boy never a doubt about that one right Scooby?
Scooby: Rever ra roubt
Jim: Thanks Scooby. A quick halve on hole 4 brings us to another par 5 and yet another eagle opportunity for Paul. This one will be a bit more of a challenge as it looks to be a double breaking putt from outside 20 ft, let’s see how he does. Oh the line looks really good on this but does it have the pace? It does. The ball rolled right into the cup. The Monarchs go up 2. Shaggy that was an excellent putt.
Shaggy: Like it sure was Jim. Like no way I could’ve done that on an empty stomach man
Jim: Or even a full one for that matter
Shaggy: Totally Jimbo
Jim: Hole 8 now, Monarchs still up 2 and the Strikers are in serious trouble here with both tee shots having found the water. With both Monarchs being safe on the green it would appear the rout is on. The Monarchs easily take the hole to go 3 up.
Shaggy: Well this is like less exciting than the last match man.
Jim: I tell you what Shaggy, let’s head down to the 9th hole to Velma and see if she has anything to add
Velma: Jinkies Jim, there is not much positive going on down here for the Strikers but I met a very interesting man named Bogeyman down at the bar…
Scooby: Roogeyman!!!
Shaggy: Zoinks! Like Velma what are you doing talking to the Boogeyman?!
Jim: Guys settle down, she said Bogeyman. He’s the bartender at the clubhouse. Velma do you have anything else to add? I see the golfers are moving quite quickly now and are on the tenth green is that right?
Velma: Correct Jim, and it’s just more bad news for the Strikers at this point with both golfers missing their birdie putts by inches and Daniel stepping up to a 6 ft flat birdie putt. There just isn’t much break in this at all Jim.
Jim: Well this should be quite simple then. And it drops no problem. Well this is just getting out of hand folks. Monarchs 4 up with 7 to play. Hey where are you guys going?
Shaggy: Like Jim this match is over, Scoob and I are going to get something to eat man
Scooby: Reah, Ri’m hungry Rim
Jim: Suit yourselves. Stranger things have happened. There is still a lot of golf left to play. Velma do you have something for me?
Velma: Jinkies Jim, the fast pace of play is starting to catch up to the Monarchs. While you were talking to Shaggy and Scooby the Strikers struck back on hole 11 with CF making an eagle putt from 30 ft. The Strikers are in excellent position to pull another one back on 12 now too. Another incredible tee shot from CF has left a tap in birdie opportunity. I’ll go back up to you now Jim
Jim: Just an incredible turn of events as CF taps in the birdie putt and suddenly the Strikers have come to life. Now down 2 with 5 holes to play, they head to the par 5 13th. After excellent tee shots by all golfers, the fate of this hole would come down to the second shots. The Monarchs both playing first allowed the Strikers to strategize and the Monarchs left the door wide open on this hole after splashing down just short of the green. This left the Strikers with the easy decision of laying up and playing for birdie. The Strikers were able to execute flawlessly and pull the match back to 1. Velma, how is the attitude down there now? Things have completely changed.
Velma: Correct Jim. Jinkies this is exciting! We have a par 4 coming up next Jim, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Have Shaggy and Scooby come back yet? I can’t believe they’re missing this!
Jim: No they haven’t. I can’t quite see them anymore but they did head into the clubhouse towards the bar
Velma: Oh man I hope they don’t run in to Bogeyman…
Jim: And the Strikers have drawn level in the match after incredible birdie putts from CF and Ernie. Never a doubt about that hole. This match is amazingly going to come down to the wire. Can the Momarchs stop the Strikers’ momentum? The par 3 16th provided just that after Paul rolled a perfectly struck tee shot up right up to the pin. Just a shocker that didn’t drop to be honest
Velma: It really was Jim. The Monarchs really needed this one Jim. Desperately needing to right the ship before the end of this match.
Jim: Paul makes the tap in birdie and we go to 17 with the Monarchs 1 up. The par 4 17th proved to be a challenge for our foursome as nobody reached the green in regulation. A quartet of pars means the match heads to the 18th with the Monarchs up one. It’s a real shame this match has to end.
Velma: What a set of drives from the Strikers. There is a ton of pressure on them this hole and boy have they delivered Jim.
Jim: That’s right Velma, the Strikers are set up perfectly to capitalize here. Can the Monarchs hold on? It’s going to come down to the putts. Daniel on the green for the Monarchs having an opportunity to put the match away with a birdie putt…and he just didn’t hit it hard enough…oh, that’s a tough break and leaves the door open for the Strikers. Ernie being away is the first to step up for the putt. The fact that the Strikers are in this match at all is nothing short of a miracle and a testament to these players. And here’s the putt…the line looks good if it has enough pace…it might be too fast actually…oooooohhhhh and it just caught enough of the cup and drops in for birdie.
Just an absolutely incredible match this turned out to be folks. Monarchs and Strikers AS after 18. The Monarch’s really have to feel like the let one get away there. I hope you’ll join me again tomorrow for Day 3 coverage. A big thank you to Shaggy, Scooby, and Velma for helping out with the coverage today. We’ll have to see if they’ll be back again
