Hey guys!
So, I've set up my first society in-game, 'Pro Swing Sim'.
I've set this up to kind of act as a middle ground between Masters and Pro difficulty. Swing difficulty is set to pro and the rest is pretty much standard True Sim settings: no scout-cam, no lie or green grids, and marker-only. This was kind of motivated with the Knightwolf settings being discussed lately to do with Killahbeaz's event; I really enjoyed playing that way but thought that allowing the distances on the book whilst removing the grids might also be a fun way to play and allow people to find some fun on these settings whilst retaining a challenge. And I'm sure you all know I'm always pushing people to try playing without grids...
I've done a pretty short schedule (I think ten 2-round events) just to test the water and see if anyone is interested. I've kept it to real courses because a) I really enjoy playing real designs and b) I think it makes gridless play fairer when you have a rough idea of the layout of the courses and the slopes on and around the greens.
So yeah, not overly competitive, no spreadsheets (unfortunately, I wouldn't know how! lol) but hopefully some guys try it out and like these settings. I think they'll allow you to enjoy the mechanics and fight the course, and not vice versa...
Cheers!

It's a bit of a laugh really and I've set to open entry so if you ever do fancy a round and even use a ghost to help with breaks fire away.

Seems like the distance is locked into book-only for the first event because it's active but it'll change to open from next event on. My bad.
If you activate distance shown in HUD setting it will show the distance for this event. Sorry about that.

Thanks man! As I say I messed up the distances and set it to book only. Didn't change it back in time for this event but from tomorrow's one it'll be fixed. Hope you enjoy it!

How many rounds per week? Hey man, so two two-round events per week. No need to play them all of course. Just set this up to trial some alternative settings and see if some guys dip their toes into playing without grids to see if they enjoy it

Thanks for setting this up Craig. Just tried a round and managed +1 so this is certainly a viable Sim Option for me going forward, whereas the previous True Sim using Master settings was not enjoyable for me as an Xboxer. Cheers, Kie.

This is great. Not that I need another challenge but have played a few rounds on Pro setting and have consistently been under par. As a CC-L player that was never the case. How to you read the greens? Is there any angle that you can look at to determine break, uphill/downhill?

How to you read the greens? Is there any angle that you can look at to determine break, uphill/downhill? Hey! So for reading the greens on True Sim the best way is to activate 'putting and approach cam' in the game settings. With this activated, press Y when putting and the camera will change to green-level which you can then move with left stick to get different views of the green and slopes. Then whilst in this view you can click right stick and do the same from behind the cup to see the break around the hole. This also works for shots within 50 yards or thereabouts (I'm not sure of the exact cutoff for the distance it's available within the game). I always tell people to take even one ghost when they're starting as you'll get a rough idea of breaks until you're comfortable and it clicks. I'm pretty good at reading greens on True Sim so if you take me ('Hendomedes' is my name in-game) as a ghost it might help a little. On uphill/ downhill I've changed the settings to show this over the pin as normal. I had made it book-only to start but it was simply an oversight. I use 'display distance in hud' in settings but forgot that's not default so changed it back for everyone. Last thing I'd recommend for approach shots into the green is to hold left trigger while addressing the ball which will raise the camera and give you a better view momentarily to have a rough idea of the slopes on and around the green. Hope you enjoy this game mode if you get a chance to play.

Just to follow up on reading greens on TrueSim: 1) start paying attention to your putter-head. You'll figure out what it looks like and to what varying degrees based on the slope at your ball/feet. 2) look at the flag itself. It can give a pretty good indication if it's leaning left or right (although remember, there could be a different break at your feet compared to the flag!).
