Just a couple quick questions for anyone who knows:
Will there be a rookie contest this year?
If there is, what qualifies as a “rookie?” By the time we get to this contest I will have competed in two 18 hole contests as well as a few design league contests. I got involved in TGCTours right after last years rookie contest. Do I still qualify as a rookie?

Just a couple quick questions for anyone who knows: Will there be a rookie contest this year? If there is, what qualifies as a “rookie?” By the time we get to this contest I will have competed in two 18 hole contests as well as a few design league contests. I got involved in TGCTours right after last years rookie contest. Do I still qualify as a rookie? I have the exact same question. Looking at the rules from last year this is what technically qualifies your eligibility: " This contest is open to any designer who meets the following criteria at the time of registration:
- Has not designed a course that has hosted any TGCTours event in any season (including ones using earlier editions of The Golf Club)
- Has not designed more than two courses that have been accepted into the TGCTours Course Database
- Has not participated in any Design Contest administered through the TGCTours forum website (including unofficial contests), or the 2016 HB Rookie Design Contest"
The first two make complete sense to me, however I think there needs to be some clarification around the 3rd. My biggest issue is how it pertains to Design league competitions. Personally I don't think Design League should make you ineligible for the rookie contest as it's not an 18 hole course, the nature of the competition is more fun and casual, and it's more of a testing ground to grow as a designer as opposed a showcase for what you can do. I'm very new to the site, and currently meet all the requirements, but am holding off on entering DL until we get some clarification around this rule. In the meantime I'm hoping to publish 1-2 courses prior to the competition sign up and get a little feedback I can take with me into the contest.

Design League will count as an "unofficial contest" and participants would no longer be considered "rookies".
However, the Rookie Contest wouldn't begin until September, and would run through December.
Why wait?

I agree with ErixonStone... Honestly I would have loved to do the Rookie Design Contest, but Design League is invaluable in the type of detailed feedback you get. Rookie contest isn't until the end of year and honestly I don't think I'd wait for it to get involved. The reviewers in DL and the group of new designers pushing themselves make for a great community. Also, the unique challenges are designed to really push the envelope and build your overall skills as a designer. You'll get more out of that than publishing one or two courses waiting for rookie - imho.

Thanks for the replies. Do either of you know is this the last DL event of the season? Think I'm a little late to the game with real life scheduling purposes & frankly a little intimidated by the thought of recreating a real life plot as a completely new designer. If it's the last event of the season I'll likely just hold off competing for the two and a half more months to make the Rookie Design Contest.

I think matty said something about 8 events. Depending on how fast you work in the designer you could still get into this one, but if not there will be more.
