Does anyone know of a course that has done this well? I don't really like how penal and random the heavy rough lies can be in the game. Are there any drawbacks to splining light rough over all the playable heavy rough on the course?
Thanks for the feedback.

Off the top of my head, Evangelist GC made liberal use of light rough.
The major drawback to using light rough all over is that you can no longer get the worn-terrain look and your course may lack some visual depth.

Thanks, I think I'll give it a shot. We shall see how it turns out.

Hey man, ended up publishing a beta for this course to get some feedback. I’m sure your pretty busy, but if you have any time I would really appreciate any advice as it’s my first real course and hoping to improve. Devil’s Fiddle GC (Beta) 7,147y

I have watching his streams after the fact on YT so that would be great. If you’d like to play it too I’d love to hear what you think. Really just trying to get a few eyes on it for feedback.

Just fired up a quick round here and I can say I didn't mind the light rough, I agree that sometimes the heavy rough is a bit punishing. While I understand some aspects of the game are easy (driving), so the rough penalty puts a premium on accuracy, it's a nice change of pace still having a chance at some longer par 4's even though you missed a fairway. Lookswise, I think it looked fine. Really liked a few of the tee shots, specifically 4 and 5 were real nice. Centerline bunkers were pretty well placed in terms of providing alternate layup areas, although I did hit it perfect over the water into the middle of the little fairway strip to the left of the centerline bunker on 2? 3? and still got a big bounce right in to the bunker, d'oh! Planting was nice, I'm a fan of the red accents, although a few holes had a dramatic mix of vegetation, specifically that right side on 13 stood out. Also, I noticed that the first few fairways seemed really flat, and then a few holes later things started getting a little hilly, which is fine, I'm more commenting on the consistency of things. All in all, this is looking like a real treat, good work bud!

Devil’s Fiddle GC (Beta) 7,147y Thank you very much for the play through. Really appreciate the feedback and will most certainly be using it to improve upon. Published it as a beta and will try to refine a lot of the feedback into the final version. Sculpting and fairway splines are something I’ve been working on since the publish and hopefully things there are significantly better than here. Totally agreed on criticism of 17, currently trying to rework the hole entirely without massively screwing up my routing lol. Thanks again for doing this, it really helps as a new designer to hear this kind of feedback.

First real attempt at a course here and still in beta so hopefully it turns out even better in the final version. Appreciate the play through!
