Vale da Lua or “Valley of the Moon” is my entry as an alternate in the National Treasure Design Competition from the country of Angola.
The course is located in the Miradouro da Lua (or “Viewpoint of the Moon”) atop of the erosion created rocky cliffs of the Valley of the Moon outside of the capital Luanda, Angola overlooking the Atlantic coast below.
The routing of the course was laid through the channels in the rough terrain creating many dramatic elevation changes through your round. The surfaces are purposefully messy and blended to go with the rugged nature of the course. The greens themselves have large aprons made for utilizing the ground game when approaching them, or at times punishing off target shots. They were designed at Fast but not very Fast so I don’t advice bumping them past 164. The holes themselves are surrounded by many deep barrancas that a lot of times are OB as in real life you wouldn’t physically be able to get to you ball, let alone hit it out.
I really tried to step up my strategy on this one. Not for difficulty necessarily, but just to make you think and consider what risk is worth taking. There is an option to play and get Par rather safely, but wanting to score under par is really where the course can show it’s teeth. Let me know how that translated please in the comments!I hope everyone enjoys!
UPDATE: For a WILD ride, also check out the Adventure routing under "Vale da Lua [Adventure]"
This fun experience is playing meandering crazily across the original course routing with no regards to stucture or order! It's a Par 72 with 8 Par 3's 4 Par 4's, 4 Par 5's and 2 Par 6's. The OB is all turned off and Lighting set down low. Enjoy!
Ok I don't know much about Angola but I felt like I was in Angola while playing my round. The greens are the main defense, missing your approach shot can leave you with some interesting putts or chips. Great design Sir....
BTW, I did notice the single patch of grass on the 10th but that is only because my ball landed near it. I'm sure 90% of the time it will go unnoticeable.

dmviking, coursedesignHQ, cd06 - Feel free to let me know what you guys think when you have a chance to give it a spin! I hope you guys have fun and make friends during your round in Angola!
terpshoops - Thank You! I was a little unsure how the "messy lines" along the fairway would translate but glad it hit with you when playing and didn't just look like I can't make straight splines haha.
So the Fringe trick is pretty simple. Bump Up the Fringe width to Max then out side of you green make splines and don't fill them in. I used 2.5 width and just made it so the edges bareily overlap not sure how big of a width you can go before it starts making spots of green. I then used a small brush to make the edges even more wavy but that is more difficult to not make pockets of green. I would change my green texture to something way different so I could see it better as I was making these greens and large fringes.
InYourRearview - Thank Youy! Glad I could represent for the Grasscutters!
meyo - Thank You! Did you play it on True Sim? Always curious how my courses play on TS! I guess that's one blade of grass is just a centerline hazard to watch out for
TanMan9798 - Thank You TanMan! I'm crossing my fingers I do but feel I gave it a good shot!
Kinda feel like a broken record commenting on courses for this contest, but I honestly feel this is your best course so far sir! I really enjoyed Infinity(... duh), but this course feels like it has more soul. Your sculpting and land movement is great, and I truly enjoyed the mixture of rock objects and rocky tearing effect of the base texture. The grass planting throughout the course was solid, and the small detailed planting (like rock walking paths) was dope. Looks like you nailed the look based on the inspiration photos. However, my favorite part of this course was the use of fairway undulations and elevation changes to create a variety of different shot options and decisions from the tee. I enjoy the extended fringe technique and the jagged fairway shape edges, even if that stuff bugs some people. Overall...
Good luck on a possible wildcard spot homie!

SwAeromotion: I wouldn't do my fellow XBox TGCTours members like that to ask for Master back on the main tours. Maybe TST, but even there I dunno. The gap in skill from top to bottom on TST is very wide. Agreed that once we get the next game comes we can discuss.

9ironanon: Yeah I can see this coming for calls from the userbase to go back to Master. Please no. CC-D is still as dead as it was last season. Change is too little too late. We deal. We adapt. We move on and We get used to it.

SwAeromotion: I mean.. HB doesn't do things at all according to TGCTours' schedule, but I get the frustration.

9ironanon: lol hb/2k. screw with the swing in the patch, dont mention it at all and release it 2 days after the season starts. we'd be still on master if this is what the swing update did back in the spring.
