Welcome to Mclusky Island! A small tropical resort with a golf course built up on man made islands on the sandbanks in the bay. There is limited accommodation on the island but day-trippers are more than welcome to use the facilities. Come along, lose some golf balls, have a beer and a swim, relax!
Club Rules:
1. There is no dress code, you're on holiday! However suitable footwear must be worn on the playing surfaces.
2. Due to the nature of the shared areas on the course only a maximum of 9 groups are allowed on the course at any one time. Tee times are 20 minutes apart.
3. If two groups are on the same playing area, the group furthest ahead on the course takes priority.
4. The double island greens at 1 & 8 and 4 & 6 are interchangeable depending on what pins are being used that day. Please check at the front desk before teeing off to avoid any unnecessary pitching on the greens. There are also 3 shared greens - 2 & 5, 3 & 14 and 12 & 17.
5. It is highly recommended to bring a good supply of golf balls (and a sense of humour). 'Sea balls' are available at the front desk.
6. The course and facilities are used at the player's own risk. Neither the management nor the band Mclusky will accept any liability for any loss, damage or personal injury. This includes getting hit in the head by a golf ball and/or accidental drowning.
7. Enjoy your round!
Designer's notes: After my first course was unashamedly fantasy (Marwood Golf Club, December 2018) I had every intention of making a real course for my second one, I really did. I messed about in the Delta theme for a while and made myself a nice little environment but had no inspiration for the actual course. I then had a conversation with a friend about where all this began, for me this game:
Leaderboard on the ZX Spectrum, just land and water! Golden days coming at the same time as the likes of Faldo, Lyle and Woosnam winning at Augusta which really sparked my love of this sport. So my initial idea was to recreate a Leaderboard course. That won't take long, right? Well it turns out those courses weren't quite as golden as I remembered, so I thought I'd give it a 2019/2K21 twist. Two years later, largely spent placing various bits of wood in to place, and here we are! Sigh.
The game was conceived and half designed in TGC2019 when it was a lot easier to hit the ball straight. With the advent of this game I had to add in all the little sandy areas to make it a bit more forgiving, and now with the recent swing updates even those aren't a lot of help. The longest forced carry is about 210 but still this will play tough on Master difficulty. Maybe future changes / games might make it a bit more forgiving again?
Edit: They did!
So here it is at last, my tip of the cap to that great old game on the ZX Spectrum, which me and my friends used to play with one of their Mum's bottles of Peach Schnapps, having to take a swig of that awful stuff every time we missed a putt. Any and all feedback very welcome.
NB: The course was originally called The Hops at Mclusky Isles. Sadly there were a few bits that needed fixing after publish (I wish I'd published a beta!) so I republished. The first time I forgot to change the name 🤦. One of those Hops courses is fine, but Mclusky Island is the official course.
