Design League Season 2, Contest #3

Hello everyone, and welcome to another season of Design League!

This season will run a lot like last season. Depending on the contest you will get a month, to a month and a half to create a course, usually 4-8 holes. These are meant to be fun and casual, and you do not have to enter each contest. Each contest will have it's own set of requirements, and they are meant to help you grow as a designer, and to try new things!

Rules
- no file sharing with other designers/players
- no seeking out design specific advice (if you have questions, or need clarification on contest requirements that is fine)
- no extensions
- streaming/WIP posts are allowed and encouraged!
- no starting on the contest course until the contest has been announced
- anyone can enter
- zero tolerance for any abuse directed towards other contestants or judges, helpful criticism is completely fine, but anyone crossing the line will not be eligible for future contests
- once your course is completed, post in this thread, tag mattyfromcanada and you will be added that contests roster
- THIS IS MEANT TO BE FUN AND CASUAL

Judging

- Judging will be made by a judging committee, no rubrics. Just like the contest itself, we want this to be fun and on the lighter side.
- There will be a 2 week judging window in between contests. *If this window is longer it will be posted in the thread*
- Every completed entrant will receive points.
- THIS IS MEANT TO BE FUN AND CASUAL!

Scoring

1st place - 50 points
2nd place - 40 points
3rd place - 35 points
4th place - 30 points
5th place - 25 points
Top 10 - 20 points
Entrant - 15 points


Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but the main aim is this is to have a fun, casual, low stress, design/contest experience. We expect to have a wonderful mix of new designers as well as some folks who have been around a while. Let's have a great season!!!

Contest 3 Details (May 11th-June 20th)

The Iconic Contest

For this contest you will be asked to recreate the plot of an iconic 3 hole stretch. We will be asking for an original 6 hole design, so it's up to you to decide which other land around these areas to use. Not every hole has to be routed through these areas. For example, if you want to use Pebble Beach, you can use the land before or after the point, or the land inland as well.

Your options are;

The Point at Pebble Beach (where holes 6-8 are located)
Rae's Creek and Tributary (there's a yearly tournament hosted at this venue)
The Quarry at Merion (located on holes 16-18)

You will be judged on the usual things like hole design, execution, planting. For this challenge you will also be judged on how closely the land movement resembles the original plot.

Rules

- No lidar
- No file sharing with other designers/players
- No betas
- Publish deadline is June 20th at 10pm EST
- Any theme is allowed, for example - if you want to do tropical Rae's creek, that is just fine.
- 6 holes, 2000 yard minimum (1828 meters)

I have a few questions:
- will the contest be judged on accuracy of the plot to the real thing?
- do the holes have to play through the famous areas?
- what does this have to do with a #vodkabarbie?

Oof... Brutal... I'm not sure how I'll do with this one. Especially on top of struggling with a potential plot and routing for CC... 😬

- do the holes have to play through the famous areas? - They don't have to, but I would recommend it, as the IRL holes do.
- what does this have to do with a #vodkabarbie?  - This used to be a legit clue, but the contest details were changed in the last week or so. It was meant to refer to Russian Nesting Dolls, and the holes were either going to get progressively longer, or shorter.

The casual part of this is if a contest doesn't appeal to you there's no pressure to join. CC is a big project, so totally understand if not everyone does all of these.

7 and 8 are literally the best routed holes on pebble so wow, that'll be hard to top, im soo in on this one. reminds me of that #reroute pebble course architecture post from earlier in the year.

Dont think I'm going to have time for this one unfortunately. Making my DL 2.2 into an 18 and will be doing a CC style course also (if selected for the comp)

Before I jump headlong into creating the plot, etc and find out I did it wrong....

1. This contest is to recreate the plot of one of the three choices.
2. Build 6 original holes on this plot of ground.
3. 6 holes, 2000 yard minimum (1828 meters)


No par total requirement?

Holes can be routed any way one chooses on this recreated plot.

Is this all correct?

That’s how I understand it. Any routing so long as you retain the original (iconic) plot.
