Welcome to the CC Masters at Fulton County GC (Tour) by CottyukIf I am being honest.. I thought this week would play tougher than last week. Seeing the struggles with last week has me a bit nervous... but I think you are all up for the challenge. Nothing unfair about this gem. Hit good shots and you'll be rewarded. Hit bad shots, and you'll be scrambling. I started you off gently this week... up a tee, low winds mod / firm conditions. Don't let that lure you into a false sense of security... Rounds 3 and 4 could prove trickier if the winds pick up as forecasted. This week is all about the greens. Make sure you're in the right spots on the greens to give yourself birdie shots. Think about your approaches and plan accordingly. You can score here, just takes some preperation Good Luck!

Never had this happen before...hit it in creek on left on 11, and I’m stuck! Can’t take unplayable or anything. It’s just stuck with the ball sitting in the water and I can’t do anything. Am I missing something, or am I totally out of luck? Too bad too because I had a good first round going.

Pretty ordinary -4 first round this week. The tempo is really off lately. Sometimes I feel like I have to smash it to get a perfect or close to, other times I have to slow it down. As a result a lot of approach shots didn't end up anywhere near where I wanted them and despite 8 birdies I also had 4 bogeys. No problems with the course itself though, and didn't notice any lag either.

catcherman22 Great course for the CC this week. Our Dirtbag Cup is next week so we missed this course by one week, oh well! My fault for not paying attention. Dan, as always, I want to pat you on the back for the job you do week in and week out. Thanks Bill and the Dirtbags

Some notes on Fulton County GC for this week's big tourney...
White tees: 7,146 yards
Black tees: 7,356 yards
Handicap 76.3 Top 2 or 3 toughest this season.
Architect Matthew Cotterill: Fulton County GC is inspired by the landscape of inland Georgia and the architectural influence of Robert Trent Jones and Bobby Jones. Courses including Peachtree and Atlanta Athletic Club amongst others have influenced and inspired this design. The tall ranging trees and rolling landscape characteristic to this part of the world are evident throughout the course. The wide but undulating fairways offer an opportunity to shape and position the ball for the best approach to the green depending on pin position. The greens are strategically designed so that subtle slopes work the ball toward the hole to reward accuracy and roll away to collection areas off the green when wayward. The greens are fast and undulating and provide a significant challenge.
And some of my notes for each hole: 1-5-619. Fulton County’s opening is inviting. A par-5 that eventually dips 100 feet downhill over the course of 600 yards. Anything too far left off the tee will be blocked off by trees. Reachable in two, it’s a fun way to kick off the tournament but the severely sloping green (right to left front) is a sign that things won’t always be this much fun.
2-4-496. A downhill dogleg right, the tree-lined tightness of Fulton County can be felt here. A drive down the shoot to an wide fairway is the least of our worries. Any approach that just misses the green left will be waterlogged. There’s plenty of room to miss right or to swing it around towards the hole with a draw. An 8 handicap seems surprising – this hole can play sneaky tough.
3-3-206. #2 handicap Ooh, lots of people are watching – don’t mess up on this par-3 that plays like the approach shot only on Augusta 13 without the drive. A fade would be the perfect shot to avoid the creek that runs past the right side of the green while still working with the putting surface’s slopes to get close to pins along the water.
4-4-466. From the tee box, this hole looks like its hiding behind trees as it curls left and then straightens out on the way to the green. Landing in the bunker left is double trouble cause trees will block our view as well. At worse, miss left so the correct angled approach will be more tolerable with a long iron out of the rough. The ridge on the left can ride the ball onto the flat grass. Be ready for a scary Sunday pin.
5-4-327. Similar to the 3rd hole, we have to watch the creek going past the green to the right. This time, a fade won’t work as well considering where the creek crosses. Any wood will be water bound – even longer hybrids can find the drink off the tee. The safe approach has dangerous tee and approach shots – might be best to try to drive.
6-4-371. This short double dogleg par-4 can get awkward quick. Club choice will be important on both shots to get home. The creek that weaves through it can lead to easy bogeys.
7-5-542. There’s a chance for eagle but a birdie is satisfactory on this uphill dogleg left par-5. The treelines will continue to come into play throughout the course and are likely to eliminate birdies on holes like these.
8-3-167. Another shorter hole on the front nine that can lead to problems, the green is severe and complicated. 4 bunkers surround the right side but they may be the better miss compared to the steep runoff left. The Sunday pin is on the small flat bit of the back left – taking it on directly can lead to trouble.
9-4-451. This light dogleg right plays uphill and tree-lined. The look off the tee dictates a fade. There’s a punch bowl portion of the green in the front and a severe left to right slope at the back.
10-4-449. Almost a twin to #9, this uphill light dogleg right hole doesn’t play as far uphill. The green is similar with a punchbowl portion on the front right.
11-4-391. As long as we don’t go left so our ball stays dry, this downhill par-4 is a birdie chance. A pitch or full wedge approach has to hit a green perched above the water left and a steep runoff right.
12-3-179. A basic par-3 with a green sloping heavily from left to right. The apron allows us to go with a low runner off the tee.
13-5-583. A downhill dogleg left with a stream dividing the fairway horizontally, the water shouldn’t interfere unless we’re hitting a recovery shot after a missed drive. Best to avoid the fairway bunker left or life will get complex quickly.
14-4-481. 13 was a practice for 14 – another dogleg left but this time, it’s a challenging par-4 that can be tough to birdie. Both the fairway and green are tough to hold but the greenside bunkers aren’t too tough to recover from.
15-3-160. The ‘short’ hole of the course, this beauty can be nasty. A narrow green that stretches around a pond to the right. It’s best to go for a ‘perfect’ tempo on this hole – preferably with a fade if you normally play the ‘fast’.
16-5-547. A shorter par-5 that plays long, it will be tough to score an eagle because of the bunkering and menacing green slope.
17-4-467. #1 handicap. What am I supposed to write for this hole? I can’t solve this one – I got nuthin’. I’m out of strategies. It’s easily the toughest hole and despite the lack of heavy rough, seemingly everything else about it is nasty. Going left of the centerline bunker is safer, going right presents the better angle in. Just be careful, don’t be frightened like me, and don’t be upset with bogey here – it could be a lot worse. Really a fun hole and a birdie will feel like a great reward here. It’s an important tourney and these holes make or break.
18-4-454 #3 handicap. Tough but a lot easier because it’s more forgiving than the last hole. Water left has to be avoided but going too far right on the approach will leave you with a recovery shot that can roll off the green into the drink.
Happy Easter and good luck throughout this important week. Shaping the ball will help, and watch out for that round with very fast greens. The tougher demotion percentage is in effect for the first time according to another thread on here so keep an eye on the leaderboard too. See you on the links.

Thanks for the write up William! Nice challenging course for all skill levels. I notice that the greens can be deceiving as far as reading the breaks...at least for me. Best round in practice was +4,but keep in mind my current skill level. I laid up on some of the short par 4's to remove the crappy partial pitches, leaving me a better opportunity with some of my wedges. Did the same with some of the par 5s. Using the Hogan club set which sacrifices some distance but is more forgiving with my shots. Hoping that I can set a goal for +5 per round if not actually sniffing even par. Good luck to all.

Another fine choice of courses. In my opinion, this one does in fact play tougher than last week.
But in all honestly, I do not like this type course, or play well on them. (Everyone that has payed attention to me the last couple years knows I hate the other course in Georgia that shall not be named. lol)
I'm not a good shot planner when it comes to what the greens are doing. In fact, I'm not a precise shot planner at all, my hope is to just HIT the green somewhere and/or stop on it. so fast greens with red/yellow slopes every other putt really mess me up.
Hoping for the best!

Shot all pars on the front and got my first birdie on 10. Then came the quadruple bogey on 11. Finished at +7 in my first qualifying round. Hope to stay closer to par on rd. 2.

Had a nice -7 going in round 1. Came up to 18, had a completely random very fast (probably my first in the past 2-3 weeks) and ended up in the pinestraw left. Thought I had a line to the green but the ball got caught in the trees and fell into the drink. Ended up with a double putting my back at -5 and I was just rattled the rest of the night. Missed a ton of putts in round 2 and grinded out another -5.
So all in all -10 after 2, an early T38 in CC-B but those two rounds were mentally EXHAUSTING. Waiting until Thursday to see if I make the cut and hopefully play my final 2 rounds.

Really enjoying this course. Shot +2 in round 1. Had to work hard for that! Able to keep out of the water, barely. Round 2 later tonight with a chance to make a cut...barring that I don't mess it up. Just need to keep the round under +4. First time in along while that I've something to actually play for. Laid up on the short par 4s and 5s to take out those stupid partial pitches and it seemed to pay off. Again, love this course.

I’ve removed the pitch completely from my game on master swing difficulty. I’d rather club way down and use a wedge for a normal shot with backspin

Improved second round for -7, which puts me at -11 at the halfway point and making the cut T52 at this stage. I'll play the next two today and tomorrow. Hopefully I can get a handle on the tempo better and score well.

Missed an almost totally flat 9ft putt on the last that would’ve guaranteed me making my first cut in CC-I on the game, which means I’ve almost certainly missed the cut by one stroke 🤦🏻♂️ Bogeyed the last two holes of R2 as well, and missed three easy birdie putts in R1, probably a case of what could’ve been...

In CC-F
Rd 1 64(-8)
Rd 2 69(-3)
-11
Rd 2 was a roller coaster of a round. I had a string of 5 birds that were wiped out with a couple of back to back bogies.
9 birds, 4 pars, 4 bogies snd 1 double bogie
The Putting was the main issue. Edge burners killed me.....I also left Hole 1 birdie chance on the table. And I think Hole 16 was another drivable where I left an eagle or bird on the table...A tiring frustrated round that should have been much better....
