The potential delay is actually a good thing in my eyes. To me, it means they actually care about getting it right this time around, and not releasing a half-baked game like Rory McIlroy. In my opinion, they can take all the time they need to make a complete game.
I just wonder now how long of a delay it will be...taking the release date away from the week of the Masters is a disappointment since that was the big draw - big enough to be the whole front cover of the game. But I'd think now they'd be shooting for a release around either the PGA Championship or the U.S. Open, since the majors are still a big part of the marketing of EA's game.

Totally agree. Most of us golfers have the patience to wait for a more polished game after the debacle of the last few releases.

Delaying release doesn't always mean a more polished experience. I've waited years for games which turned out to be total disasters!

I first thought , Hey maybe they are going to fool us and release it around the holidays but seeing the words "coming months". now maybe next year's holiday season? No clue and nothing to back me up but gut feeling. Too many games are now coming out as early access (or a paid for beta test). I hope EA does not do this. Just test your game until it is as good as it gets with limited in house testing or put on the big man pants and allow your customer base HELP you test it before we lay down money. I can almost guarantee they would be turning volunteers away from a closed beta. Player beta testing comes in the form of pre-ordering the game first these days.

It may not have anything to do with game play at all. It could be legal issues with some licensing. Could be Rory saying he had a multi year contract and wants his name on it. We don’t know. But I wouldn’t put all the eggs in the game play basket.

I'm not saying a delay means that the game will be perfect. But at least it seems they're willing to take the time to get it right from what they are saying. It's better than saying nothing at all...

They wouldn't be simply shifting release dates, they'd be delaying indefinitely. They did say they'd be giving their plans in the coming months. Vague, but again, at least they are saying there's more to come. Not a full stop or saying that things are shelved. But anything is possible at this point. I'm just glad there was some kind of information provided.

The delay could also be tactical as it is a current gen only game and many people can't get their hands on one. Delay the game to a bigger market six months later maybe? Also it does seem a terrible bit of business if EA doesn't release the game on PC when companies like Sony are even releasing their big exclusive games now.

Another observation might be a conflict between which company actually has a contract with the PGA? Did not 2K/HB have one also?

Oh for sure I realize that but I find it odd that both video golf games would nail down a PGA contract. Then again since we have nothing but crickets from HB and the fact Tiger signed on with HB, maybe HB did not get PGA renewal? I am not a conspiracy theorist, just wondering out loud as to what may be going on behind sealed shut no info to the public doors.

EA and 2K had MLB, NFL and NHL contracts at the same time back in the day. It's not rare for two competing video game companies to both have a contract with the same major professional league.

I’ve never seen it referred to in that manner by HB or 2K, i.e., the monopoly known as Madden. It will be interesting to see what influence Tiger Woods will have across the board with 2K’s game, especially since he has had more free time and also is a gamer.
