You make a lot of valid points, but as to the courses themselves, other than, as you say, the ones EA has in their game for the majors, I can't see this making a huge difference to us here, or more specifically to the designers. I'm not even sure that the courses EA use for the majors could not be designed here too. They apparently have obtained the rights to the names, 'US Open' etc, but, for example Pebble Beach, do they then have a deal with whoever owns the course? Time will tell. If we called our British Open the UK Open for example, and used a famous British course, would there really be a problem? By 'we' I of course mean TGC Tours. That would absolutely be a problem...if EA is paying rights (which are not cheap, from my understanding) to use a detailed, virtual Pebble Beach exclusively in their game, and feature the name, logo, etc. of that course, why would it be OK for a detailed user-designed Pebble Beach, named "Pebble Beach", to be available in the competing game in which 2K is not paying a single cent for it's appearance in said game? There's even a disclaimer when you start the designer in 2K21 that you're not supposed to create anything that would infringe on copyrights that you or 2K don't own. That's the whole reason a brand new, "heavily influenced by, but not really" Augusta is now in TGC Tours. And a replica of Pebble Beach had to be renamed "Cobble Beach" or "The Bing Crosby Classic". And all this is being done even before the EA game is out! Just wait until both games are on the market... Calling an event the UK Open might be OK, but it's very clear it's still playing off of the "British Open" name. In 2K21's career mode, it's called "The Royal Championship", so renaming events is fine, as long as you don't make it too, too close to the real thing.

I'd be interested to know the name of this heavily influenced by Augusta course? Just to give it a play.

This is the reason why I decided to change the name of my RCR of Montreux Golf Club to Montreux Barracuda when I ported off from TGC2. It used to host the PGA Barracuda Championship so I just mashed the name and tourney title together. As far as I know to this point, it hasn’t been flagged or anything. Licensing rights is a serious thing.

Is there any chance that this will result in a mass exodus of liscenses from 2k to EA. Simply put, to me, the difference has always boiled down to money. EA was king of sports games for a long time, and while it's true they haven't produced great games in a long time, if 2k lost the ability to have top real life brands, they would be a significant decline in game quality.
My concern isn't over PGA2k, truly known as The Golf Club, going anyway. It's in it's getting worse, or losing the ability to improve itself in the long run, the way it always has.

My concern isn't over PGA2k, truly known as The Golf Club, going anyway. It's in it's getting worse, or losing the ability to improve itself in the long run, the way it always has. I mean, it all depends on the deals PGA 2K already has with their existing partners. None of the deals that they have are publicly known to be exclusive, expect for the one they just recently signed with Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, EA has already announced that they have exclusive deals with all four major championships. No one has mentioned any deals with brands of apparel or gear. I think we'll see both games offer some overlap in terms of content. For example, when it comes to courses, my guess is that both games will have East Lake and TPC Sawgrass - and maybe a few more. As far as brands go, I could see both games having Callaway, TaylorMade, etc. I am most curious about Titleist...Titleist gear was never useable by players in any previous EA golf games, but 2K managed to get them into 2K21.

That's changed then as when the Masters was on it was said the release was to coincide with the Masters 2022 tournament Yes it was pretty vague at that stage other than to say that it would be ready in time for the 2022 Masters. If the EA game is going to be out by the end of the year it will be interesting to see when HB/2K release the next version of 2K21. I'm looking forward to seeing them going head to head.

Should be very interesting.Personally think this pga21 version by 2k sports was rushed. It’s graphics are still back to Xbox 360 days. And the constant patching of swing tempo changes should’ve been corrected on day 1.The servers are always lagging.Offline career mode is a disgrace. It’s biggest benefit has to be the course creator
If EA jumps on with a course creator. It’s bye bye 2k.I’m positive EA will dominate graphically and swing mechanics wise.As well as career mode
Without a course creator.Than 2k sports will easily win

I’m sure the next iteration will be given the label Tiger Woods Course Designer, reminiscent of when it was Greg Norman. But labels are just that, labels. They don’t mean much to me. Gimme the substance, keep the hype for those who like that kind of thing. I have zero faith in EA providing me any kind of non-arcade golf experience. There’s only one feature they could add that would motivate me to even try their game from a demo standpoint and that would by providing VR capability.
