The Magic of the Cup!! The Sky Blues lined up totally perplexed by the fact there were 22 players in the opposite half, one in the black and white of the famous Juve and another lot of strange looking farmers in fancy dress. Undaunted they kicked off and stuck to the new tactics of playing short, safe passes while probing from an opening. It was all going to plan when the defensive frailties reared their ugly head with a complete cock up leading to an awful own goal. Apart from that decent first 20 minutes... (From a pixel golf point of view I'm a bit gutted, best I've played since the updates ruined by getting stuck in a bloody bunker for a treble. So frustrating. I have absolutely no idea what shot I'm supposed to be doing but a partial splash like I've always done is certainly not the answer nowadays. It is sooooo difficult to get it right.)

The Sky Blues kept plugging away as the half continued, keeping it tight and playing a possession (of par's) game. It was all going fine until a moment of madness saw a player (balls) off for an early bath after two moments of madness from McFadzean with a booking for a rash tackle (red fast) closely followed by red (fast) mist as he lamped the referee into next week leaving the City down to 10 players against 23 (including the ref)! Fought back well towards the end of the half. Half time break desperately needed. (From a pixel golf point of view, got out of greenside bunker successfully (progress) but had the usual blow up hole (11th) where I landed not one, but two, red fasts into water. Definitely feeling like I'm going forward though, just need to take my time after an error instead of compounding it. Too impatient (who, me?!!). Cut out the daft errors and I'll settle into a spot where my skill set lies.) In other news how funny was it to see Scumderland fail in their efforts to get out of League 1 PUSB

Thanks LEFTY79, I'm sure our paths will cross again. And thanks to honeybadger64 for running what has been a very enjoyable side event. Unbeaten all season! Well, until now anyway. Decided to play the first two rounds last night after a few Moretti's too many. Not my wisest choice, especially on a course where even your good shots can get kicked in to the cabbage. Didn't even get to putt on 11 in the first round. Fast, fast, slow, fast, bringing back an entirely different kind of splash shot. I'm pretty sure that's the first time I have ever reached the stroke limit in any TGCT event ever. Pretty hard to give a sh%$ after that, and I didn't. 76 and 74 An eagle on the 36th hole was pretty much the only good thing that happened. Even that felt like the game was taunting me. Look at what you could have won? Being a cup competition I take it I'm out of my misery? Planning to play something else for a few days..

Love a good match play game, even if I am cannon fodder.
Seriously tho, playing Kevin straight up? Well at least I got an invite!
Onward.

Cup v Ajax v Aston Villa
Carlisle went into this match high in confidence (2 practice rounds of -12), so confident in fact that the Chairman was in the press besmirching the recent history of two of Europe’s establishment clubs.
Nerves got to the players, expectations were high and the boys got tense, puts left short, over hit final passes and one diabolical lapse in concentration means Carlisle’s Cup run (less run, more stumble) will be over after round one.
A result against these heavyweights was always unlikey, but the Blue Army are going into the Season with optimism after a much stronger showing (without any nerves) in Rd 2, if required...

Yes I did see that and the red mist made me forget. Sorry 🙈 We can get them off the main site.

Celtic v Burton Albion There was no real cohesion to Celtic's play, they were good at moving the ball out from the back and about in midfield. It was the final ball and finishing that let them down, a few times their slow play allowed Burton to get numbers back and snuff out any threat.

Juve came out firing in the first round of the Cup and likely was able to find the back of the net multiple times. SkyBlueBen proved to be solid opposition but we won't know how this all plays out until Tombanator joins the mix to settle this three-way cup tie! Fino Alla Fine

First RoundDespite most of the East Fife backroom staff being otherwise occupied searching for engravers with a working knowledge of Italian, they set out with the Jim Bowen mantra echoing in their brain. 'Keep out of the black and in the red, there's nothing in this game for three in a bed'. Perhaps this distracted them a little in the first half. Five misplaced passes mostly cancelled out a couple of good attempts on goal but they were showing some definite signs of coming to terms with the triangular pitch. Lashings of Buckfast and a couple of steak bridies at half time along with a guest motivational speech from Coach Carter saw, probably the best performance in months from Methil Milan. The Fife Juggernaut got into top gear from the start and seemed to be driven by Marty and the Doc, getting up to 88mph and going back in time to the way the game was on TGC2019 on pro settings. Five birdies, a hole in one and an eagle on the last. Regardless of whether it takes them into the next round, the East Fife fan was delighted and headed off to the Tower Bar for some celebratory Tennants. I hate to think what it might have been without several red slows and the customary handful of red fast approaches.

Ajax - Aston Villa - Carlisle United Slightly erratic start by Ajax; they shot at goal about 18 times but a number of them hit the woodwork...
