I've already tore up a couple of plots for my Netherlands course. Here's my problem - the general terrain in the Netherlands is so flat, that if I built a course using either the linksland on the coast or a course in the higher hills of the south it wouldn't be convincingly Holland. Struggling to pin down a design style as well. Trying to work out what would suit the country best - and I am not going to build a polder (look it up, you'll see why I don't like it) course. I'm very keen on the really clean designs of mjhamilton113 and Energ1ser - could be a good starting point. Only a couple so far? I more are on the way! haha Also I wonder how you unpublished courses page looks unless you totally clean house and delete them

I think I’m finally happy with a setting & routing, it’s now just a matter of making it come to life. A lot of my original plans have been scrapped due to feasibility (or lack thereof). This could end up as a simple “inspired by” course (‘the more you add, the more you take away’ - Marco Pierre White) but if I can fit in any of those bold plans, I’ll certainly try.

I ditched my first plot. I had some good things going but it wasn't up to the standard that I was hoping for. I created a second plot and already have 2 holes laid out. I think this could be the one. If the next 16 holes are as good as my first 2 and I figure out my planting scheme, I think I'll be very satisfied with this course and maybe even challenge for a Wild Card spot. If I don't get a Wild Card and I'm satisfied with my course, I'll count that as a personal victory anyway.

I kind of learned from WCOD that it doesnt really help to think of the contest differently than just releasing a course you like with additional parameters slapped on. To me, this is just a bigger version of design league's format, where I learn as much from others as from building my own course. I can almost guarantee my current idea wont win anything, but damn it'll be an incredibly unique course and judging by the amount of rocks Ive already placed, @babybull might drool over it. Think instead of contests as a great way to get people to play your course!

Currently not having the ideas flowing for Holland (damn it, I wanted a hillier country). Gonna play a few courses this morning to get me in a better mood to design and construction will start this evening. Fortunately, I have found one hilly area in the Netherlands...

Think the main aim of this contest is that your course should reflect the country so that people play it and go 'yep, that's the Netherlands'. For example, I've found a couple of coastal links in Morocco that I'd love to do something with, but you get those everywhere and it's not typically Morocco, so I won't touch them. Embrace the flat!

I was originally going to do a coastal Dutch links, but... well, they are too hilly! Time to go Google Maps scouting then.

Nope, still no ideas flowing. Just the prospect of building a flat course is making me a tad nervous...

Nope, still no ideas flowing. Just the prospect of building a flat course is making me a tad nervous... I'm sure it doesn't have to be deadpan flat. Subtle undulations and slight elevation changes could still be present. This will just force you to think outside the box and use other things to add strategy to your holes. You got this.

Nope, still no ideas flowing. Just the prospect of building a flat course is making me a tad nervous... There’s always those brightly colored flower field sections you could do off in the distance. RIP your planting meter but still.

Subtle undulations and slight elevation changes could still be present. This will just force you to think outside the box and use other things to add strategy to your holes. You got this. Thing is, my kinda courses are ones like Sussex Downs and Bryn Awelon where the elevation changes are quite pronounced or grand - I do enjoy courses with more subtle sculpting, but it's not my style. Just a little bit frustrated that my first full 18 hole course has to be in the flattest country...
