Welcome to week 22! This week we venture to an entrant in the rookie design contest. Cavacom Creek by cavacomThings start out dry and very firm, but the storm moves in and softens things a bit, eventually slowing the greens way down. Varying conditions should make this an interesting week! Good Luck!

-5 first round in CC-B. Some inconsistent tempo and silly misses on pretty easy putts didn't help me. I liked the course though, need to put some thought into the tee shot on a number of holes.

-8 in Round 1 (CC-K), after missing the cut for the first time since getting my Tour card in December. Really proud of that.
Managed to finish Evens in Round 2, despite what's probably the heaviest wind conditions I've ever played this game in.
Enjoying the course, can't wait to get Rounds 3 and 4 in, should hopefully finish strong for a good comeback week.

I am not a huge fan of this course. Too many putts that have 2 - 3 breaks from 15 feet or less. I had a couple ghost breaks too. Tee to green, it is ok design, but 3 of the dog leg lefts all feel like the same hole.
I do like the fact that I can spray it all over and still score.
I have tried designing and I stink at it, so I will shut up now.

Just wanted to say before this week's notes that I wanted to thank you guys for accepting some guy out of nowhere tossing all these hole-by-hole notes here week after week. It's helped my game and people seem alright with me doing these - it's been a lot of fun - I'll never know as much as the course designers or anybody really LOL but thanks for letting me yammer on.
CAVACOM CREEK GC 72-7183
Cavacom Creek is a woodsy course with a lot of brown rough, plenty of big bunkers, and lots of doglegs. If we’re good working the ball left and right, this is an ideal fit. For those that drive the ball straight most of the time, some of the fairways can be punishing. Water, dogleg turns, bunkers, and trees all make driving straight uncomfortable. Ideally, a draw or fade off the tee will reward the golfer with short straight approaches for easy birdie chances. Some tricky greens are hiding amidst some easy going ones. There's some elevation and fairway camber change but it's really about the twists and turns of the fairways. The handicap is about a 71. Bear in mind I only got to play two quick rounds here for practice.
1-4-425. Early on we get a taste of what’s to come – doglegs – this one heads left around a deep bunker. Recoveries on this hole won’t be overly tough but later on, some of the bunkers will be a menace. The green slopes from front to back so approaches can be aimed short and work their way to the hole on the ground.
2-3-234. We’ve played a few golf courses recently where we’ve had a difficult hole early on and for Cavacom, #2 is the toughy. The large green cradles the ball towards the center but it's still one to watch out for.
3-4-431. The par-4 3rd is a bit narrow fairway headed left. The 4-leaf-clover-shaped green has some awkward sections that can be make putting tricky. The fairway cradles ball too far right so the drive is easy and the wedge approach is simple. Can be a birdie hole.
4-5-590. A long dogleg right par-5 has some big bunkers but they’re far off enough to the side that it should be clear sailing to a serene green. Though they take up room like last week’s bunkers, they’re deeper so keep them in mind.
5-4-435. An awkward hole for a driver or 3-wood tee shot, only a hybrid has sufficient room to lounge on the fairway though a really good draw [by righties] would have enough room to travel with the fairway. The further left the drive, the shorter the approach.
6-3-170. #1 handicap. A simple par-3 with a green that slopes to the right. There’s a small ridge to get over on the front and it shrinks the landing area unless we’re hitting a low flight shot into the green’s front. Landing below on the green, just below the steep ridge will cause some extremely severe uphill putts.
7-4-481. #3 handicap. A long par 4 with a creek crossing over at the 350 mark. The driver has plenty of room and the approach shouldn’t be impeded by the water. The green is tough, sloping to the right with a severe vertical ridge in the middle. Both 6 and 7 can toss bogeys at us because of their severe tiers. Most of the other greens are more manageable.
8-5-576. A long par-5 that can be longer if the creek splitting the fairway isn’t conquered by the tee shot. The water will come into play with driver so it’s really up to how aggressive or conservative we play par-5’s. I usually play conservatively and then aggressively on par-5’s but I’m probably not going to take on the creek due to the angles. It’s impossible to reach the green from behind the creek so it becomes a 3-shot hole.
9-4-332. The 8th may not yield many birdies so if we didn’t get one there, here’s another chance for redemption. 3 big bunkers off to the sides of the fairway and green may not be enough to stop us from an easy birdie. Be aware of the light ridge splitting the green slope down the middle.
10-4-455. A severe turn on the dogleg right wraps the fairway around a well-placed bunker. Landing on the inside of the dogleg could result in trees blocking the approach so stay left. Landing in front of the bunker will leave a blind approach. The green slopes from left to right.
11-3-195. #2 handicap. A par-3 with a green hiding behind a bunker – come out from behind there you shy green! A draw (for righties) around the bunker will help avoid the sand and land on a green that slopes right to left. I’m watching the Pebble Beach tourney right now and the 12th hole par-3 that has the green that’s hard to hold – this is like that hole. 12-4-392. A significantly curved dogleg left that requests a draw though a straight lofted driver has enough room to maneuver. The small green has a spine down the middle with some significant undulation.
13-5-561. A straight par-5 with very little defense. As long as you can keep the ball on the relatively narrow fairway, it should be an easy birdie. The green is not the easiest so an eagle may be tough unless a heroic approach can be made.
14-4-470. Another severe dogleg hole, this one veers left and allows for driver. A wedge or iron approach faces a few bunkers and a small green sloping to the right. Watch the huge bunker on the inside of the dogleg.
15-3-145. Another small par-3 – this one with a small green that has a light ridge splitting the slope left and right.
16-4-429. Like the 8th hole, a creek cuts across to make the tee shot uncomfy but it’s easily clearable with driver – the wisest choice. We’re still left with a good 140-150 yards left headed uphill to one of the calmer greens.
17-5-538. The other par-5 on the back nine has a lot more to keep us from glory. Deep bunkers off the left of the fairway and the creek plays on the right side can hinder the drive. If we can successfully draw (for righties) the tee shot around the bunkers and away from the creek, you’ll be left with a great chance for eagle.
18-4-313. One of the easier final holes we’ve faced, this is like the thank you present for playing the course – a drivable par-4 with a few bunkers that could annoy, but this is possibly the easiest hole on the course.
Have a great week!

R1: -5
Weird first round. Warm up felt super solid, but the first nine was so jittery. Was hitting most fairways and greens but couldn't get close enough for good look at birdies and even had two bogeys to cap off the front 9 at +2.
Birdied the 10th and 11th though and settled down after that, going -7 for the back 9 including an eagle on the 17th. Can't help but feel that I left with a -5 that should have been twice as good though. I can see the cut line sitting around -4/-5 in CC-G (without checking the weathre conditions for R2).

-7 in R2 so that should be the cut line cleared easily. Loved the conditions in R2, made the course super fun to play. More of the same though, ice cold on the front before heating up. -1 on the front and -6 on the back. Imagine if I could be as good on the front as the back, the scores I'd shoot...

I had the same type of 1st round but I never found it. Whenever I was close for a good bird attempt I burned the edges with my putter. I left 5 birds on the table and burned the edge with a 3 ft bird as well. My putting confidence was shot for most of the round. I was at +1 after 16 and just trying to get to level par for pride. I finally started to drop putts for birds but that was 17 and 18, too late..... 2 bogies 3 birds -1 What sucks was I liked the layout and the 1st Round conditions. I had 2 practice rounds with the exact conditions and shot 64 and a 66 and then was struggling during my tourney round. I hit 85% of the fairways but only 55% of the greens. And when I did hit a green I was close for a good bird attempt but fumbled. Oh well, I do like windy conditions on certain courses and very fast greens. I tend to concentrate more and score well in those conditions for the most part. I’m in CC-H and our cut line is around -4/—5. Hopefully the putter returns for Rd 2.

You guys must be using a different driver than me! LOL At 267 max distance, I found it very hard to clear that creek, and if I accidentally hit it slow.... well that hill that makes it roll back is just mean!

This course is really tough for me. Happy to finish R1 with an even par. None of the holes felt easy. Thought conditions in R2 were even more difficult, so was pretty happy to have a -2. Then I looked at the scores in CC-J and the current cut line is E, so was somewhat deflated! LOL Doesn't play to my strengths (but then again, not sure I have any strengths in this game). But I do enjoy the course. With a lot of the holes, you have to be quite accurate with the driver. Club down, and that gives you a better initial landing spot, but of course leaves you with a longer second shot. Anyway, lots of fun.

I finished -40 this week after mediocre round four. Greens def have lots of ghost breaks as I missed a few putts that had me baffled
I didn't hate the course this week but not much thinking involved with it and I felt bored during my rounds even though I scored well.
Not sure If the -40 will hold for a promo but I'm ready for next week.
Good luck everyone!

You need to get that Bridgestone 294 yard driver and start hitting bombs
