This is a really dumb thread that I only created for some golf course chat, but it's fairly obvious that quite a few of the courses on the PGA Tour are... uh... sonewhat similar in some sense. I'd like to hear your thoughts on your favourites and least favourites, and let me know if you've played any. (I haven't.)
I'll start off then. Favourite: The Old White at Greenbrier - I've really grown to appreciate this one and its templates - it's a classic, and I really enjoy watching it. Least favourite: Torrey Pines - I think it's a really lackluster course for such a cool setting. Too many average holes and not many good/great ones either. (I won't lie though, I don't mind 3 on South - drop holes aren't usually too bad.)

I could just turn this into a debate on whether Torrey Pines is any good, but I feel like that defeats the whole "best course" objective...

Top 5: current favorites for me (non majors)
1. Austin Country Club: (WGC Match play) So many unique holes and the wind plays havoc. Every hole is memorable and isn't cookie cutter. Absolutely perfect for match play. 2. Pebble Beach: (AT&T Pebble Beach pro-am) Ocean holes, rich steep history, everything about it is rock solid. 3. TPC Sawgrass: (Players Championship) The first ten holes are decent putting in nicely, but the final eight holes are fabulous and conducive to championship golf. 4. Riviera: (Genesis Open) holes 1,4,5,6,10,12,14,17,18 are truly some of the best in the business. Only premier ball strikers win on this track, and this course gets massive props for being a course Tiger struggles on, despite his California golf dominance over the years. 5. TPC River Highlands: last six holes are sneaky good and the whole setting of 15,16,17 wrapping around the lake is a masterpiece, so many thrilling finishes over the years as well at this venue.

I really like Riviera as well. It's a really strategic test (although it's up for debate if the bunker in the middle of the 6th green works or not).

I might throw harbour town on the list but maybe I'm just a sucker for pete dye courses I love Harbour Town! Shorter course with tons of character and some teeth if you’re not on your game. I really like Kapalua. It hosts a limited field event but does a really nice job blending beauty with strategy. Least favorite is probably Bay Hill along with most of the other Florida swing courses. Only Florida course on tour that I like is TPC Sawgrass.

Favorites - Pebble being a given - Doak's new Memorial Park is a new personal favorite, and Trinity Forest, Kapalua, Mayakoba, and Sedgefield round out the list. Waialae and Riviera should be on that list but need renovations.
Least favorites - this list could be 25 courses deep but I figured I'd narrow it down: Sherwood, Torrey, all TPCs aside from Sawgrass (Scottsdale is great as a spectacle but terrible as a golf course), Innisbrook, and Muirfield Village.

Not as familiar these days with the courses on the PGA rota but would Plainfield CC be worthy of a spot? I like a Donald Ross course.

Oh definitely worthy just not a regular tour "stop" just part of a rota. Those Northern Trust and BMW rotas have some gems - Aronimink is another classic that falls into that category.

I really like Sawgrass but I agree, Muirfield Village is boring and average. There are some "cool" but really generic water holes and the rest are bang average. TV viewing lives would be vastly improved if they took events to non-generic, interesting courses.

This is why the TOUR is a bad benchmark of what "good golf" is.

This is why the TOUR is a bad benchmark of what "good golf" is. Yeah, it was a fan consideration, holding an event in texas in May where there is no shade means not enough fans came out. On top of that the course isn't "hard enough" for the pros and fans hate it when pros score well. Seems everyone wants the pros to suffer and barely break par every event playing courses where "target golf" is the only way it can be played. No strategy, just penal penal penal.

This is why the TOUR is a bad benchmark of what "good golf" is. This is 100% truth, and it would make for a good signature quote.
