New Year, New Casual Society !!
Named "The Island of Misfit Courses" on BOTH XBox and PlayStation, and feature 36-hole tournaments on courses that meet your hard-working admins sensibilities
IT is NOT intended to be any sort of dig at the hard-working review team. They get dozens of submissions every week, do it all on a volunteer basis, and have chosen some enjoyable, challenging, and occasionally "too-hard-for-this-duffer" courses for us to compete on every week. However, many an enjoyable, playable course is passed on - maybe it's one too few pins, too many stock shapes, 'sculpting & surfacing' ... we've all been there, done that. I will not be paying attention to who posted the rejection, and if it's review wasn't 'unplayable' or 'all autogen', I'll likely see for myself what's up.
We prefer 'realistic' courses, but aren't above a nice fantasy round ('Story of Endor' is great - but not many fantasy designers bother to submit) or a Par 3 contest, maybe even throw a Stableford scoring event out there if the course is 'right' for it (majority of good risk/reward holes, eagleable Par 5s). We plan on going through the 'not accepted' thread and choosing a first couple of weeks' courses based on playing a round, (or it may only take a few holes). Once we start playing, if you're a society member and have a rejection, please let us know it's name, as we'd prefer member creations over non ! Please don't submit crap courses for the database in the hopes you'll get played here - that's just twisted, folks !
If you design on XB or PS, one of us will see your tag and make sure and mention you in the thread, and if you are a TGCT member we should PM you (seems fair enough, and keeps it internal instead of e-mailing like some spammer) well ahead of time, so you can join up and play your home course !
As for difficulty, the proposal is just making it 'Open' so nobody feels like they can't go around in par on a good day. I play Master on TGCT obviously, but usually dial in Pro to compete with the upper CC- and higher Master players like David in open matches.
Aids, also will be up to you. I use green & lie grids, but no swing meter or post-shot feedback.
Now, this is meant as a good-natured effort to get some unloved courses - yes, including my own - played, and also see how well myself and my PS-based cohort, laladiesman (aka David), can run this thing. It's been cool to be a member here, where the presentation and team are pretty top-notch, and even my level of play can find a home. Hopefully I learned a thing or two (now, now), and it won't totally suck.
IF this has some legs, we might try and start a little webpage for combined results reporting, but for now, the forums of TGCT will have to suffice (Thanks, admins & ProBoards !!). We both also do 'live' on our respective systems and can set up to stream some of our rounds with other players on Twitch.
As a bit of a wallflower, I don't have many 'contacts' in the community, so if a PC player/designer wants to be our third platform admin, let me know as well. We want to create & post the first 10 events or so by a couple of days after Christmas.
PM me or reply here if this interests you at all, fellow players and designers , and stay safe & well through the holidays

Adding "Barking Spider" for sure, enjoyed it this morning.
I must say I've enjoyed playtesting, but am also glad I only need 2 pins to work ! Some really fun golf to be played, IMO.

Trying to have some fun with tourney names, tie them to the course name or theme.
Hope to see all my forum friends there ...
I expect the PS version will show up in a couple of days, and we will be adding more events.
Considering a points system, rewarding attendance as well as a bonus for good play.
And if you have a great, but quirky course feel free to PM myself or laladiesman on the forums to get our focus on it.
No guarantees, of course.

What’s up bobaloo? And to all the other misfits who want to play the crooked courses on our crooked island, welcome! I echo Bob’s sentiments. This is about having some fun with courses that may never see the light of day. Some will. There are big play numbers out there for some of these designs. It’s not about our opinion on anyone’s design or how it ended up on the island. We certainly would love the the designers of these courses show up and offer an opinion and will always encourage constructive criticism by all members.
Btw I am running the PS4 side of things so if that is your platform direct all your complaints my way. I probably won’t listen but they’ll get to the correct trash bin. 😉

A very solid showing, David ! There's a reason you were in the Korn Ferry finals last year, never forget it ! And a measly -3 from your XBox host of the Tour. Hope to see a few of our discussion pals drop in before the event ends tomorrow ! My opening round is available over on my Twitch channel, back this afternoon for round 2. Debban National played well, the wind was a factor but not an impediment. Sure, it has a blind spot or 2, but that's fine by me, and the greens were a lot of fun, even the darned tiered ones. A fine 'Misfit' from the main tours, thanks to rhodesie22 for the time & effort. m.twitch.tv/videos/858148404

Why can’t designers such as yourself(s) and many others that have washed in with 2k21) just accept the constructive criticism, go away, try harder, seek advice and tips and strive to become better designers? Y know, just like the rest of us. There seems to be an influx of rookie designers that think they know it all. Humble yourselves, befriend some experienced time served designers, who., btw, will be more than happy to assist you in your quest, learn and thus improve instead of arguing The toss with reviewers (that have been doing this for literally years) on why you are right and they are wrong!! Take the CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, learn, grow, and become the designer/s you aspire to be. Much love, Golfwolf.

Take the CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, learn, grow, and become the designer/s you aspire to be. Much love, Golfwolf. Thank you for taking the time to check out our brand new Society. As directed above please provide the console you currently play. I don’t want to presume anything but maybe something lost in translation. This is not a design Society. It is a Society for courses that may have trouble getting plays or seeing the light of day. I for the life of me cannot understand how that is anything but a good thing. I have another Society that does the exact same thing. Provides opportunities for courses to get plays. I have never heard you pop off before. What makes this one so special? Lastly my friend Bob is very involved with TGC, it’s designers, tutorials, streams and banter with the review committee. And he does it all in a respectful manner. So be before you lump ‘ourselves’ together please do your research. I am the one who ignores everything that someone like a tpetro posts. And we certainly did not wash in with 2K21. Man do your research.

FWIW, since you're in the UK, you may not be aware that the name harkens to a beloved children's Christmas TV special from my youth, and is definitely a term of affection.
I've been in this for a couple of years now, not just 'washed in' with the new game (kind of insulting to generalize about those folks, tbh). I chat with the reviewers, we kind of get along, you know. Even Ben & I.
They provide great service to the TGCT community, for whom they are working hard to curate content & events.
I see nothing in the official game literature that requires us to design in a particular style or for a particular audience.
When we are happy with our creation, we may take a chance & submit it here - it's a perk of membership for Tour players, of which I am one. CC, but still ...
Thanks for the input,
Happy New Year & much love back atchya from 'the ATX'

Golfwolfuk Pc. I’m only ‘popping off’ to stop obnoxiousness. I’ve shared my opinion, on the matter. If that IS the true intention of the society then I applaud it.

Now, back to our event-themed content ... I enjoyed round 1 here, although I should have heeded my advice and double-checked a couple of carry distances on the overhead before swinging freely.
3 under on Pro with grids on, wind meter only, other aids off.
It may seem counter-intuitive for many, but playing on Pro here will really help me on my TGCTours rounds at Masters. I had my best week in a month at Avalon, and I chalk it up to all the course scouting I am doing.
I would be interested in seeing the next effort from this designer, as he had some good thoughts but equally as many miscues, or just didn't consider the 'tournament golf' needs. A few too many 'unexpected doom' spots, but nice look and very scoreable, based on the PS posting of a 61 !
