Time for an emergency creativity session.. What’s so creative about a log wrapped up in a tarp? And why do they seem to be in such a big hurry?

mayday_golf83 - I had a thought for any future comps when you need 4-5 alternates. Could you consider offering one less starting place and then asking the alternates to complete their course one week prior to the deadline? The organisers could then select just one of the alternates to take the "wildcard" spot while the other alternates remain in the order selected should others drop out? Just a thought to give the alternates a greater incentive and 'carrot' to complete a good course. I'd imagine that could work in any comp with limited spaces. Thoughts? Speaking as a former contest judging coordinator, the only drawback of this proposal is that it requires the judges to play even more courses (which is the reason we have to limit field sizes to begin with). With the side contest here, the contest participants are judging, so the panel doesn't get overburdened. What if the alternates all complete their courses and then, when judging is to begin, the alternate entries are run through a randomizer with the first 1 automatically in while the others are used, in order, to backfill anybody that dropped out along the way.

Had a mini panic attack thinking the deadline was March 1, rather than March 31. Feeling pretty decent about the direction of my course and really looking forward to starting to fine tune now that all 18 holes are down and rough shaped. I'm not sure how it will fare in the competition as the abundant talent I'm going up against is definitely humbling, but the loop is shaping up to be something completely different from any of my previous work. That alone is a "win" for me.

I'm fully into my design at this point finally, trying something totally new yet again, but this year I have no expectations going in and just looking at the field, I'd be thrilled just to earn points in group stage. So it'll be what it'll be, but I'll published a very nice course and some will enjoy it, and I'm good with that.
To be fair, I'm more excited to play the other 31, haha!

Unsure if I'll be eligible for even 9 hole competition, but I'm putting together a WIP anyway.
Plot is complete and 9 holes routed and most contours complete, including greens. I've started to add the water and bunkering.
I'm adding some foliage and rocks, but expect to finish the routing of the second 9, contouring, greens and bunkering before really digging into planting.

Hope all your courses are going well fellas. My course file corrupted two days ago (it was saving at the exact moment we had a power cut...) so wanted to suggest you all backup course files if you’re on PC. mayday_golf83 would you be ok with console guys publishing betas as a backup, provided they are on the down-low and aren’t for feedback? If you have discord, easiest way is to create your own server and drop the file in there regularly. Thankfully, I only lost about two days’ work from my last backup. If it had been the previous backup, it would have been mid Jan...

Playstation users can back up files on USB or the PS Cloud. Just an FYI.

If it had been the previous backup, it would have been mid Jan... That is a practice I’ve done in the past on console. But the keys, as you mention. 1) console guys only. 2) the backup file under no circumstances can be used for public consumption and/or feedback. As general practice for the PC guys, Ben has sound advice. I’m a Google suite guy, so occasionally I back up the course file to my Google Drive for the exact reason Ben mention. Also comes in handy if you want to try something funky. If you end up not liking it, you can always go back to your previous file.
