Although he did not win the Tour Championship last week, Tiger Woods still regained top spot in the Autumn Cup standings - with only one event left to play!!
Les Souter can still overtake The Tiger, being less than $214,000 behind, but he will need to play very well and win a big payout...

Event 45 - 2000 WGC-AmEx CHAMPIONSHIP - at Valderrama, Spain - Round 1
In the final event of the season a good opening score beckoned as there was absolutely no wind at all and the fast greens were in perfect condition. Unfortunately Ian McKinley failed to take advantage and he could only post a woeful 79. Les Souter's fine 67 saw him right up there at the close of play, one stroke behind Bob Fletcher who fired an inspired 66 to end the day tied second with Padraig Harrington. This pair trail the early leader, Nick Price, by three shots after the South African-born player blazed around the course in just 63 strokes!!

Event 45 - 2000 WGC-AmEx CHAMPIONSHIP - at Valderrama, Spain - Round 4
Ian McKinley shot a 71, his best round of the week, helping him to avoid bottom spot. Bob Fletcher was so disgusted with his play he walked off the course after nine holes, otherwise he may well have still finished in the middle of the leaderboard. Tiger Woods couldn't find his A-game all week but a level par 72 today still saw him finish in a tie for 6th place. Les Souter needed something special in this tourney to overhaul Tiger in the Autumn Cup standings, and he did just that! With an overnight lead of ten strokes he just about held things together to shoot a 71, and in the process won the WGC-AmEx Championship by a massive nine shots AND also the Autumn Cup!!
I will shortly publish a review of the 2000 PGA Tour season, after which we will have a break before the next tour - the 2015 CHAMPIONS TOUR, where players will compete for the Charles Schwab Cup over 25 events, all of which will consist of 4 rounds, so watch out for further news...

2019 Society - PLAYTOURGOLF
The 2015 Champions Tour begins this Monday.
The tour will consist of 25 events, one event to be held each week.
There were 5 'Major' events on the 2015 schedule, and these all consisted of 4 rounds each.
However, all the other events, bar the final one, consisted of only 3 rounds. So to make things a little more fun and interesting, we will play these 3-round events as 4-round events. The 'old pros' Round 4 scores will be selected at random using a program that will apply a round score to each old pro from a range of the lowest to highest scores from Round 3. So when commencing the final round, you will not know any of the old pros scores for that round, you will only know their scores at the end of Round 3. So you will, in effect, be playing Round 4 'blind' - very similar to real life I think.
The leaderboard for the first 3 rounds will be published during the week, normally on Thursdays, Fridays/Saturdays, and Sundays. The final leaderboards will be published on Mondays.
COME AND HAVE A GO!!

Event 1 - 2015 MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CHAMPIONSHIP - at Kaiuma Bay - Round 1
The 2015 Champions Tour kicked off at Kaiuma Bay, a spectacular course with danger lurking everywhere. The weather was kind with only a stiff breeze to handle, while the greens were quick but not too quick. Bob Fletcher played the first 10 holes solidly enough, but then his round began to nosedive, and he eventually recorded a disappointing 76, not what he'd had in mind. Les Souter's putting gave him all kinds of problems, but he rallied on the back nine to post an opening 74. Ian McKinley's 70 included just the one bogey, and he expressed his joy to be back on the course playing tour golf again. The best guest round was produced by newcomer Mel Tyke whose impressive 68 left him just 2 strokes adrift of the first round leader, Rocco Mediate.

Event 1 - 2015 MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CHAMPIONSHIP - at Kaiuma Bay - Round 2
With hardly a breath of wind and slightly slower greens this promised to be a day for low scoring. Bob Fletcher improved on his opening round by carding a level par 72, still not what was required but at least heading in the right direction. Ian McKinley enjoyed a great front nine but then lost focus on the back to repeat his first round score of 70 to leave him in mid-leaderboard. Les Souter boosted himself into contention by shooting an awesome 63, but one of those rounds where everything dropped was spoiled by a lapse in concentration on #11 that cost him a bogey. Rookie Mel Tyke impressed on the opening day and he again played very well for a great 65, lifting him into a share of the lead at halfway. It's going to be a fascinating weekend...

Event 1 - 2015 MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CHAMPIONSHIP - at Kaiuma Bay - Round 3
Could be a difficult round today due to the harder conditions and high wind. Les Souter (77), Bob Fletcher (75), and Ian McKinley (73) all found it tough going out there, but not as tough as Ben Crenshaw did as he posted his third 85 of the event!! Overnight joint leader Mel Tyke managed a creditable 68 but now finds himself in third spot, two strokes behind outright leader Miguel Angel Jimenez and one stroke behind Mark O'Meara. It's going to be a nail-biting finish...

Event 1 - 2015 MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CHAMPIONSHIP - at Kaiuma Bay - Round 4
The wind reduced to a breeze and the greens were quick, so attacking play was quite possible. Bob Fletcher ended a forgetable week with a 73 but avoided last place thanks to Ben Crenshaw. Ian McKinley played consistently all through the tourney without really threatening to finish well, and his 71 was another round where he missed several opportunities to improve his score. Les Souter's closing 69 was a solid round, but although he must be regretting his first and third round performances, he still had the small consolation of posting the best score of the week in Round 2. Mel Tyke was in with a chance today, but he couldn't quite find the form that had placed him in contention. A 70 was only enough to earn 7th spot, still very respectable, but leaving him a full 6 strokes behind the eventual winner, Mark O'Meara. However, Mel did leave Hawaii with 64 Charles Schwab Cup points in the bank. Next stop Florida...

Event 2 - 2015 ALLIANZ CHAMPIONSHIP - at The Glades G.C. - Round 1
A little breeze and lightning-fast greens faced the field today, and the big drivers would enjoy the huge fairways. Bob Fletcher was plagued by all sorts of timing issues in the middle of his round, but he recovered to birdie the final three holes, the best of which came on #18 when he drained a 59-foot putt. However, a 79 ended his tourney before it had even started. Ian McKinley and Les Souter made solid starts with a brace of 69's which left them three strokes behind the opening day leaders.

Event 2 - 2015 ALLIANZ CHAMPIONSHIP - at The Glades G.C. - Round 2
A stronger breeze was blowing for this round, there were tougher pins and rain rendered the greens quite slow. Bob Fletcher improved on his opening day showing by carding a 73, and putting was his main bugbear today. Ian McKinley's round of 68 included only one bogey and he is well positioned for a weekend charge, but the round of the day came from Les Souter. His magnificent 64 was easily the best effort of the round, contained no dropped shots, and gives Les a 2-stroke lead at halfway. On this form who will be able to deny him the victory?!

Event 2 - 2015 ALLIANZ CHAMPIONSHIP - at The Glades G.C. - Round 3
This was an ideal day for shooting low; a light breeze, straightforward pins, and perfect greens. Even so, Bob Fletcher could only put together a 72 to remain at the foot of the leaderboard, while overnight leader Les Souter imploded by carding a 74, his putting the main culprit. Late starter Mel Tyke posted rounds of 67 and 67 before recording a 68 today, but even that level of scoring left him a lot to do to threaten the two players ahead of him in the final round. Another late starter, Hans Kunok, playing his first event of this season, followed rounds of 67 and 66 with a sizzling 63, but even those scores weren't enough to sieze the lead. Ian McKinley produced an absolutely stellar round of 58 which included two eagles, and which placed him one stroke ahead of Hans with just one round to complete. The victory will almost certainly go to one of these two - but which one...?
