Art Vandelay I've given up after 2.5 rounds and there is not enough time to come back to this when the steam has stopped coming out of my ears. Positives: - Masters tempo off the tee and with irons is good on my Series S. Nothing particularly random occurred - Putting is OK except the back swing on the short putts but still manageable (although I am focussing on Greensman). Negatives: - Don’t put pins on orange slopes again. The 4th pin on R2 was on orange. I putted it from about 25 feet uphill and it stopped an inch short and then rolled back to my feet. - Anything around the green under 20 yards is a joke. I'm completely lost. Most of my dropped shots each round have come from a couple of quadruple bogeys or worse from Splash shots or green side chips The tempo is completely fcuked on these. I cannot hit the ball slow enough, even trying my putting stroke. At the moment this a gamebreaker for me. Hang in there with the chipping Ken. I was rubbish the first week and then started to get the hang of it. Anything in the fringe, I'm putting now. Just like I do in the real game of golf. Anything around about 4 yards I will putt even from a little bit of rough collar round the green. Arnold Palmer used to say a bad putt will finish closer than a bad chip.

I'll answer to all at the same time. I got the game since october 11th and I'm in vacations. I'm 3 months ahead in this! 😛 So let's talk about these balls a little bit. Are they all better than default? Depend on alot of factors. There's one creating more ball spinning and more rolling. A little rolling nightmare. Cause someone said it... default ball is good until you meet an orange slopes or very fast greens. To be more specific, the default ball is having alot of problems braking when it's on a downhill slope. Even on greens of 140, you could watch your ball roll and roll out of the green on a pretty normal downhill slope. Still possible to play, but you gonna have to shot fully lofted, reducing tempo and on top of that, aiming like 2K21 won't make it. You will still need to calculate alot of rolling with your fully lofted shot. It's complicated when a ball costing 15 VC can cure all of this and have a more enjoyable game. Here's a little guide for those who haven't tried any balls outside default. There's 4 kind of ball. My favorite are the one with "spinning top" on it. Called Toupie in french. Let's take the silver cheap one. Compared to default ball, this one have more effect, less distance, a little bit more rebound and less rolling. Since my clubs are all high on shot trajectory, this little silver ball is enough to shut every negatice effects of the default one. This is the perfect ball for me. If you designed your clubs with lots of tempo and took a tempo favorable archetype, maybe you will want the ball that gives more distance to compensate your short forgiving clubs. You will lose effects, gain some rebound and have less rolling than default one. Here's the worst things to do with these balls right now. Trying to be smarter than the course and conditions. Like, let's use a power ball on long courses, and take one with no rolling on small greens. Maybe in 6 months for that. Or playing 20 rounds in the week with default ball and going legendary on sunday for your big rounds. Your whole game is gonna be derailed. My suggestion is that you explore GREY balls first. Differences with default are mild. Don't go higher than grey for now. Try them all, and pick one. Stay with it. Play a round with it, go back to default, go back again to your silver one that you choosed. See the differences. Once you're sure that you have found the right one for you, it's time to explore a bit. Try a green one of the SAME kind again. Then maybe blue and eventually purple. I still don't use legendary balls. Cause yeah, I couldn't afford them for all my rounds, and they would surprise me cause now you get a complete different animal than default or even grey or green ones! Very helpful Eric. 👌

I'm not very accurate but in 2K21 I could scramble 3 or 4 from around the green to save the score. In 2K23 the same shots are costing me 3 or 4 strokes a round (at least). Splash shot needs fixed. No way should players have to chip out of bunkers to feel they have a chance. As for the slopes on pins. It was all set up in a bit of a rush so you'll have to forgive the odd issue. We'll get it right when the proper stuff starts. I'm enjoying the game so far but it's no longer my "go to" game so my expectations for the upcoming season have been lowered. Not even dared to play on the Series X yet. My play time consists of setting up my avatar, 2 holes and setting up a society for TBC. Any more that that would be tempting fate!

All the stuff I’ve said earlier about the game Ben the more I play it the more I’m enjoying it, to me it’s very much like TST it’s easy to score bogies but not to get birdies. Playing TST my thinking is to stay away from trouble aim for the middle of greens and try not to short side myself very much like you would do in real golf.

Quite frankly, and this is not a complaint at all here, I think this course is broken. This is not Oakmont for christ sake! I have played it again like 7 times in MyCareer on Master and I can barely break par on this and went playing a round 2 shots away of Loveskud after in a society Strange things are happening on this course. Will take a break when we have to suffer this 32 times in a week cause it's playing on TV! haha I had a 11/10 short game in 2K21. And give it time. If you have a similar calibration than 2K21 calculation, then you need to execute every shots slower a bit. I bet you make very fast shots everywhere around the green. I could use lob shot at legend now, might be the easiest one to master after the chip. Splash shot is not only tough, your 2K21 are now in the drain. Depending on alot of things, including the ball (😛), you could have to aim way further or give way more roll after the initial bounce in your calculation. Missing at 78% when you need 85% for example is also punished way more than last game. It was kinda dumb last game. 12y or 36y splash shot, I was pretty much aiming at the same place! Way more calculation on it now. Take your time. Again, it's just a new muscle memory to acquire. Splash shots are not that tough to execute after some time and practice. For some reason, I hit better with the lowest cam on the ground. Maybe try that of you use something else

Thanks everyone for the tips and encouragement.
My tempo on normal shots has been good even on Masters.
I've been playing Pro till now with the power meter on to help get the muscle memory in place, so this was a step up. For some reason on Master it went out the window. I hope it is not the old 2K21 XBox issue but limited to chips & splashes.
Fundamentally, the swing tempo on chips & splashes makes no sense to me,especially on partials. A splash shot out of a bunker should be the same if not faster than a normal swing to explode it out of the sand.
Also, I'm a 20+ handicapper IRL and I can play both these shots better in real-life. It shouldn't be this hard to hit the ball generally where you want it.

Everyone, listen up! Uncle Mark has arrived to save the day! First of all, the splash shot is NOT broken. It was grotesquely unrealistic in 2K21. I found this little ditty out in the wild and felt the need to share it with you. See you on the course!

Now some of the flat bunkers I’ll still chip but the splash shot is not as bad as I thought, just takes some practice to get the feel.

This is the exact opposite of what I have found to be helping me use the splash out of the bunker. Moral to the story: different strokes but don't give up, it's only been a week for crying out loud! Onward!

IGolfBadI found that video elsewhere plus he has a chipping one and a good review of the archetypes too. I've now changed from Greensman to Rhythm and I spent some time in the practice area to try to understand what the hell is going on and let my old neurons [Ed: Don't you mean cogs?] try to rewire themselves. I don't mind not breaking par but can't stand taking 6-7 shots to get up and down from around the green. Let's see how I go this week ...

Thought I'd give the legendary flight ball a go at Sawgrass and report how it went. Didn't make any difference whatsoever to my Driver yardage or any other club for that matter.
I backed out and it definitely had that ball ticked and loaded and it was showing 2 left out of the sleeve of 3.
Not sure what's going on? Any other Playstation players had any experience with using the non-default balls?
