The Miramichi River Golf Retreat is complete - after two months and over 100 hours on the designer.
The course was inspired by the great fire of 1825 in New Brunswick and Northern Maine. I will be officially publishing the course later today - likely around 6-7pm EDT.
I've created a preview video that flies through the course with commentary on the unique aspects of each hole. I'll let you know when it goes live...

Looks nice! I'll have to give it a go tonight. The planting and tree work looks top notch!

Difficulty: Master Tees: Blue Pins: 4 I must have thought after that eagle on the opening hole, I was hot sh%$ and going to have an easy time or something because that was my only hole under par the rest of the round lmao. Love the use of slopes you've incorporated on a lot of the holes as well. Some of the hills are a little steep, especially coming into 18. Good luck if you plan on walking up to that green. The retaining wall on 17 is huge, but very well done. Looks nice. Planting was well done and so were the bunkers. They had a nice depth to them. A lot of the ones I see are too shallow in my opinion. Good course overall though. Had a fun time.

I often tell folks that my courses challenge people to take on risk that either results in a reward or stings with dropped strokes. I'm glad you enjoyed the bunkers - I too hear too many comments about bunkers being too deep - meanwhile my experience in managing and visiting many courses tells me that only low budget courses have shallow boring bunkers. I'd say carts should be mandatory on this course with a few of those hills. Thanks for playing the course!

You better not visit low budget Pebble Beach or your beliefs about bunker depths relation to budget will be crushed! 😉

You better not visit low budget Pebble Beach or your beliefs about bunker depths relation to budget will be crushed! 😉 When I visited Pebble Beach in 2005 I thought that the holes along the water were gifted with the deepest bunkers ever! Playing from the beach sand back up to #8 looks like one heck of a shot. There's always exceptions and Pebble Beach's flat bottom white bunkers often have interesting elevated slopes around them. Keep in mind that PB's owner/founder Morse only hired course designers Neville and Grant because they would work for free. Sounds low budget.

The start of your video is so sinister with the fire and the 666! Guess it's a sign of how close we are getting to Halloween. Got me spooked

Will Give this a play later today. Thanks for sharing. Just my two cents about bunkers from what I recently learned; fairway bunkers are just fine if shallow or okay to me if it’s somewhat deep depending on distance to green. Green side bunkers though! Should have some sort of depth at a minimum.

Looks great, Jerry. I have it on tap for the weekend... Good luck! Watch out for #7 - a short Par 3 under 100 yards. Seems it's been surprising folks. That green is the same square footage as the 'postage stamp green' at Royal Troon's famous #8 hole - just 30 yards shorter and with a river to the rear. Let me know how you do.

Just played and here are my thoughts. Shot -4 on the front and think you did really well on planting on a few holes. I would recommend panting rocks especially on those steeper slopping hills. I think the slips were just a bit too much for me. There were 6 or 5’s? Of those I think only one was reachable on two. I even hit driver off the deck on the fairway of course and was still short. Hole 2 Seemed like it was a blind tee shot on a par 3. Loved the one hole that kind of over Looked the road and you used retainer walls for a tunnel look that looked nice but don’t think you could see it from the tee. Hole 13 was just too brutal for me. Short pitch for eagle and the ball comes all the way back down the fairway twice. Hope I’m not trying to sound too critical but I have seen a couple videos of Your work and think you have a great potential.
